Has US 1 plate of 70's written all over it, I really tried to do this at Broadford a few years ago, flatrack, MX, RR then finals on SM. But beuro way too hard for me.

Iron Man at Calder in 08 was close in concept but never got the press.

Maybe this will, I hope it gets support, any takers from here ?
Maybe To'N will add SM class to it ?

Nice idea but I wonder if a lot of "contractual obligations" will get in the way. Contracts are maybe not so much of an issue within the AFXC I suppose.

why cant they just put on a dedicated supermoto race?? eg on a real motard ciruit.. dirt & jumps and not a big ass stretched out RR circuit

x 2, i think if either of the bigger promoter took sm seriously and had some dirt sections they could build a strong class. but really we need practice venues more than anything

If this event goes off OK on the 18th - 19th
Hopefully - we might see more events like this for supermoto specifically Saturday and MX Sunday at Winton ;)
It needs support and riders entered for the weekend.
Having said that I am still 'bikeless' myself - but will certainly be there.

My 2 cents:
I'm not a fan of riding a motard on a full length road race circiut.....
I've ridden my SM at broadford and didn't enjoy riding the straights.....
If i wanted to ride on the RR tracks i would've bought a sports bike.

Winton has no long straights really
Its ideal on a supermoto with the right gearset -
You just get to maximum RPM in top before you have to pull up again
You should ride it Loris -
You might change your mind ;)

that might as well be in another country! :(
perth.. for the average punter that is going to cost over a weeks wages just to get (you and bike) there and back.
i know that this one (the championships) will be a good event. although i am a little confused as to how one can be named a champion winning only one event:confused:
surely something could be had on this side of the solar system, given the amount of riders that are located here that would give it a good go.

Obviously the Australian Historic Championships, held over the 3,4,5th of September was confusing as well, not to mention other disciplines like Karting, Trials Riding who use this format. We at least reverse the track to have 2 separate rounds over the 2 days.

People don't put on races because there are no racers. The people that complain about having no racing need to get out there and race to demonstrate to the promoters that there are people willing to race their supermotos. The opportunity presented by AFXC may not be perfect but look at it from a business point of view and it makes even less sense, why should AFXC try and squeeze another class into an already busy race weekend for a bunch of riders that may not even exist. I can only think of 4, maybe 5 people in Victoria that have demonstrated they want to race supermoto.

If you're worried about spending a week's worth of wages to go to Perth then I think you'll be shocked by the real cost of racing. I spent about 1/3 of my yearly wage in my first year of racing, admittedly some of that was bike purchase but if you want to race, everything else seems secondary. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.

It's easy to knock the Perth round because it's on the other side of the country but it's not that hard to arrange transport. 10 bikes in a container would make it pretty affordable, probably less than the cost of 2 slabs of beer each. The real reason that it's only a one round championship is that no-one else wanted to run it, if it wasn't for SupermotoWA there would have been no Australian Championship for the last 2 (?) years.

I guess the thing is to just show up and race regardless of anything. There's no excuse unless you just want to win and nothing else. There is always fun to have all the way down a field. I'm guilty, I won't race if I have no chance of being competitive.

I've raced Karts and DH mtbikes and both run 1 race championships. I'm not the biggest fan because you can have a bad weekend and that's your championship gone, but it's the same for everyone.

I hear what you're saying Paul I spent all my wages on racing then half of my Dad's and got a loan as well, and that was most years. Had a great time learnt so much but discovered I needed to increase the investment to get anywhere. Like Shane said previously you have to take money with you to get anywhere or be very connected like some!

I've said it before but the Perth guys are doing such a good job! If it was that easy to be racing Karts I would still be there doing that!

Perth has the National Championships because they built it up to that with regular riders and racers who actually turn up and ride.
Good on them ;)
In the case of Victoria we have a heap of blokes with bikes who want to ride to work instead -
Why would a Promoter face possible disaster like the previous ones catering to the minority?
Paul has summed it up nicely.
Its business vs needs of the sport base.
Thankfully there is movement in the camps of both AASA and MA to make a concession for all and provide at least some racing - not just in WA.
More tracks to train / practice is a start and a base of regular riders coupled to that might see some improvement in the future.

So if you cant go to Perth -
Stop whinging and go to events where you can afford to go racing
Theres one at Winton on the 18th - 19th of course.

Hi guys
if your going to race on 18th and 19th dont forget to get your entry's in, if you want the early bird fee of $235 it has to be in by the 6th of december or it will cost you $300
come on boys fill up the grid, also just wanted to confirm that angus will be rideing in the belray 6 hour race with phil lovertt on a ktm rc8 going ok in practice so far
that was the reason we and phil did not do the aussie supermoto title's,we could not say anything about it before until it was confirmed, so good luck phil and angus

My understanding is there is a pitiful mount of entries been received for the Supermoto Class.
I would have thought with all the riders ( in Victoria) this wouldnt be the case
I'm not competing but lobbied to have it provided, I dont think there will be enough time to setup the new bike - which hasnt been delivered yet.

Yeah, the transport company have been pretty hopeless at getting the container over to the holding yard, Bryan is pulling his hair out trying to get them moving. Hopefully we get the go ahead today coz I need to service the old girl before I go away.

What are you thinking Pete, are you still up for it?

Pedro
15-12-2010, 10:26 AM
I'm tempted but its getting a bit late notice. I need to service and patch up damage before I make the decision. There are birthdays and party's stacking up here now and the possibility of an Appin session with the boys. money is tight too. If it wasn't 12 hours away I'd be more keen as I could duck there and back.
