View Full Version : New poll up for site availability....

As announced on the front page i've stuck up a new poll about web site availability for VSMR (ie. good or bad). You've probably noticed the web site outages we've had recently, primarily due to the problems with our web host's facilities in california where they've had some city wide power cuts due to their current heatwave.
They are supposed to be moving to other facilities which might make things better, but I'm still concerned on availability, performance and their general proficiency, as I've had other issues I've had to work out myself without them being able to help (ie. shit they've changed that they didn't tell me about and couldn't work out the impacts of).
So please vote, let me know - it will be quite a bit of work to relocate to another provider but if that's the best thing to do then that's what we'll do...

fsck them off, you know you want to.
The only grief I've had is not being able to upload avtar sometimes, not being able to upload pictures sometimes, not being able to upload pictures as a folder (at all), I have only found it to be down 2 times.
Oh and Sibbo (possibly also Flash)  are they replaced or modified if you change servers??
In all honesty I think the system has been OK, I have found other sites down on occasions too (but haven't tried pics and stuff on those).
Only thing I would like to see is the home page changed a little, it is boring and seems to be always the same.

I'll be overnighting in California on Thursday. Want me to go see them and show 'em where they're going wrong?

Cue texan drawl...
"I'll open up a can o' whip-ass on em"
nah it cool with me, i do agree with 77 the home page could do with some jazzing up. I think also we should actively start chasing up some sponors like avon. we have enough active members and it might bring a few out of the wood work.

One thing that really shits me is when the "View posts since last visit" button doesn't work. It has never worked when I'm using Linux and that's fine but sometimes it doesn't work with window$ - like right now.

How doesn't it work? I've had problems with it not recognising that you've already visited a post, but it's never missed posts?

I have not had any problems with site outages of late.
View last posts only doesn't seem to work for me when I have forgotten to log out at home and try and log in at work and view 'latest/last posts'.

When I first log in there are the brown post-it thingys indicating new posts. When I click on the "View posts since last visit" button it says there are no new posts. when I go back to the forum home page all the post-it thingy's are white. This morning's post was done from a laptop, I'm now on the home PC and it has done it again so it is not the computer at fault.

Hmm, that don't sound right ... is there any particular pattern to it? Happen all the time? Or just on occasion? Is your laptop and PC set to the same timezone?
Harry525

It's happening all the time now. The timezone deal might be causing it but one of the laptops is locked and I'm unable to change the time - it's set to USA central time and running W$ 2000, but surely that wouldn't be a prob as they are 15hrs behind EST. The other laptop is running Linix (Dapper Drake) and W$ XP Prof, both OS set at WST - Perth. The PC is running XP home and also set to Perth time.
Maybe I've been singled out after my comments about opening the can o' whip-ass on the site host!
I suppose I'll just have to get used to it.

I've also been getting this where the topic review should be when replying to a post
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: opentable() in /home/vsmrneta/public_html/includes/page_header.php on line 44
:wtf:

There's something definately not right going on there ... what version of Firefox or IE are you using?
Does anyone else have the problem with the topic review part when you either quote someone or do a reply without the quick reply window?
Does the quick reply problem happen now? OpenTable is a standard function called in the PHP scripts and shouldn't fail unless we have monkeys at work on the host again (last time they changed the user that the PHP daemon runs under which caused all our problems with file permissions that broke avatar upload and gallery upload etc). But it's all server side so in reality it shouldn't matter what browser you use, you don't see any of the PHP stuff come out, just the HTML anyway...

Anyone on FF just make sure you have the latest version as there's been a bunch of patches out lately (Help/Check for Updates). Which is a shame since FF is much nicer to use than microcrap internet rooter :?

Running the latest firefox I have no problems with the site I even loaded a small video this morning/lastnight.
Corey's Mac runs fine on here as well....!!!

I am now having a new problem. I will log on and it will show on the forum index how many threads have new posts (and there maybe like 5), I go in and read on thread and when I come out it shows no new posts even though there are??
