Hi all,

Starting at the shell servo in Jimboomba head out to Kerry and onto Duck creek rd. it is a nice uphill dirt rd to O'reilys and then Down through cunangra. Where we stop for an ICY bevo at the Canungra hotel, Up the hairpins to the goat track into Tamborine and down out at Beenleigh. A nice mix of different scenery and surfaces and you could make a decent day out.

Here is a link to the route. http://www.whereis.com/?id=2BC68E01581C3

Sorry to all you fellas that have to work tomorrow ;)

Bayside Burg

Allright so i am back from this route and i am chuffed.....was a great squirt. I am a little to concerned as there are some areas on the Duck Creek Rd section that are quite rutted and stoney and im not sure that all would be impressed, but hey, it is a 'tard after all..... The 'Berg loved it.

Pretty boring out till Beaudesert but from Beauy there are some nice open country roads as you head out past Kerry. When you make the turn onto Duck Creek Rd it is single lane tarmac (see photos) with some nice cow patties scattered :p. Heading into the dirt it is quite rutted and there are some piss poor water crossings (about 1ft deep atm) then you start climbing. Be careful as there are some sharpish rocks but i had no probs. Launcing of some contours and getting a little air was nice.

The road then changes from scrubby rocky bush lined with gum trees to hardish dirt/clay with some lying water with rainforest cover and that lovely rainforest smell. You then pop out just near O'Reileys and shoot down the mountain though some twisties (couldnt get many pictures as the Sky started leaking hardcore) then pop out at Canungra.

My ride got boring after that 'cause of the rain and i was homeward bound from here but the idea is to then do Tambo Mt.

Some pics for those that are interested in joining me, I make no apologies for the Berg photos...I love it!! ;)

The date i have planned is the 04/12/10

Would Like to see some bikes out.. C'mon guys ;)

mjgriffo
17-11-2010, 09:23 PM
I'm definitely in if the weather is good, getting back to dirt roots is awesome - even better on road tyres!

edit -
Just had a look at the route distances, I will probably need fuel in Canungra - about 90kms Jimboomba to Canungra. I only get about 130km out of a tank if I'm cruising. Roads like that bring out the angry eyes, so am likely to get a bit less economy.

So I would probalby stop for fuel in Jimboomba and Canungra to safely get home.

DRZStevo
17-11-2010, 10:09 PM
I'm keen for this one to , did Lamingon and down Duck Drk Rd last weekend on the DRZ tard with the missus in her road/trail tyres TTR250,
Awesome roads and scenery up that way, and the roads are just made for a tard:twisted:.
Might try to talk the missus into coming along, she gets along good on the TTR :)

Griffo, that fuel range will shit it in ,
If not I can easy spare 3 litres of BP's finest out of the DRZ.......sorted ;).

Do not discount this yet, it may not rain! I am all for havin a strap in the dirt if it's muddy, I don't want to ride if it is really raining or wet. But I thnk we should make that call tomorrow night.

I know myself that I go for a ride to enjoy myself and if it is pouring I just don't enjoy it, I'm sure tassie gets it's fair share of rain but the rain up here lately has been pretty constant.

Not to worry though....This ride is going ahead :) :) :)

Jimboomba shell at half 8 all :)

Was a good outing, far too wet to do Duck creek rd though. Could you imagine if we would of pushed further into that??? Just cleaned the Berg up and cleaned my gear. I will try to keep it upright next time. Early in the new year when the dirt is dry ( or at least not a mud bath ) and the Tarmac is sticky we will give it another crack.

Great to meet you guys! That's what this forum is for, getting out and meeting people and riding. Not just typing on a keyboard.

I will put the few pix I took up soon.

Noise restrictions?

There is no noise testing in effect at Stanthorpe. The only noise restrictions we police are the time limits - Racebikes can only be run between certain hours, I think it's 9am - 4pm.

Unless your bike is stupidly loud, it's unlikely to get knocked back.

Sunshine but the roads are soaked from the night before which sucks for you boys, next one i will come for sure, although i will it is a bloody long ride from brisbane to jimboomba to start the ride!

It's only half an hour to 40 mins from Manly where I am, I don't consider that far. The meet was chosen as a central start for people all over brissy and the GC boys. If this ride is do-able on sat everyone should try to get out, will be a hoot :) plus a beverage in Canungra is always nice..

Sorry mate, I may have missed it, but how long did the defined route take last time you did it? Just so I can give the boss an estimate of me getting home.

If its dry, I'm in. I need to get out and get some stress-free fresh air.

Hey mate, Was an awesome ride

Met up with Matt and Matt ( XXXX and Vagrant ) at the Shell and waited to see if anyone else was coming. Shot out to beauy which is pretty boring but from there hit the road out to Kerry at a swift pace and onto Duck Creek Rd.

My god that was so much beter than last time :D:D:D

Some nice open Enduro riding, Water and clay, Ruts and rocks and a near off and you wouldn't want to spend your day any other way. The Husky spat its rear tail light assembly off but we fixed that with Elec tape.

Down the road to canungra is always nice and i realised the boys are quicker that me but i don't mind, Ride to your own pace.. and got to Canungra for a quick beer and a chat. :) Head up to Tamborine for Epic corners and the Goat track. Said Seeya to XXXX and shot down Tambo heading home. That section between Mount Tamorine and Tamborine village aint wort riding anymore but is a direct route so we rode it anyway. Said goodbye to Vagrant and mustered home for a stubby

Top ride guys, Thankyou..

I believe this may become a nice little supermotoaus.com ride for the SE Qld kids sooner rather than later. No action shots but the days pics....

newbie here...correct me if i'm wrong are you guys taking SM road tires off-road? how do they handle a few lads that ride dirt say
"its f'd may as well kill yourself" amd not fun at all????

alfa, sm/street tyres are never going to "handle" as well as a knobby in the dirt. No, you can't "rail" as much on a set of road tyres as you you can with knobbies, but for me I love being able to ride on the road to go find a dirt road/track, then being able to go slip and slide and wheelie and jump in some dirt and follow it up immediately with some tight fast twisty hairpins.

Really its all personal pespective. I think it great fun sliding around in the dirt (and Im not very good) with my sphincter so tight I have to pry my seat out of it afterwards. The lack of traction makes its challenging and a little risky, which makes it that much more fun. I stack it all the time in the dirt, usually with no issues about getting up, brushing off the ego and jumping straight back on.

Of course, YMMV.

and of course, the fact that some (or a lot of) people think its crazy is just icing on the cake.

It is good fun if u don't mind a little poo. Hardest thing for me switching between road and dirt is remembering which brake to use

I know what you mean SWG, I had some of those moments yesterday. Really was a great ride with 3 real different types of dirt (gravel track, Rocky rutted uphills and Black slipperry forest floor) and i loved it.

Alfa, the nature of SM is exactly what we did yesterday. We were just maybe more towards the dual sport side:)
