Chatted to the guy selling the CR5, he said it was a good bike, but its not road reg, so no good for me.

The WR426 is a rip off and the Berg is er....I would rather spend the extra few $ and go new....unless Corey is willing to neg on $.

Add 10 percent across the power range once you add a vortex ignition! no matter how good/bad it feels.

Having a wheels that you can use on both your yami's will be cool as ......

Maybe two weekends from now we can sort something out?????

Jeez i hope you're right, the XR is off getting a vortex and lightened flywheel at the moment, i'll put it on the dyno again after i get it back to confirm. But an Extra 10% should give me over 63hp at the rear wheel  Who needs a V twin!!!

5 HP + by putting on a Vortex ignition, seems a little hopeful to me.

I'll eat my hat

60 HP from an XR seems like a lot. What have you done to it? Not being a smartass, just very curious.

60 HP from an XR seems like a lot. What have you done to it? Not being a smartass, just very curious.

It's a long way from your standard XR, it's got an HRC powerup kit (piston, cam, timing sprocket, plug, needle, clutch springs jets, blah blah), exhaust, headers, filter and air box cutouts.

It's been on the dyno and got 57.5hp @7000rpm and 47.5Nm @5000rpm

I'll put it on the dyno when i get it back (same place to make sure it's a fair comparrison). I'd love to see if all the hype about Vortex ignitions is true or not.

Sibbo

You wouldn't by chance know approximately what a header pipe is worth?

By the way how is the DRZ rebuild going?

Tom
29-07-2006, 07:48 PM
Got the XR back today. Initial reports are Vortex = good.

Not confident on the 10% across the rev range claim, but definately an increase in power, definately smoother power delivery, and it might be the lightened flywheel but the throttle response is much much better now. Turn that throttle on in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear and the front wheel is in the air, no lag, no bogging, just power on :) .

An added bonus i didn't think about is that my rev limiter has been raised from 7,500rpm to 9,750rpm. Which means my new top speed should be around the 210kph mark :D (according to my hi tech excel spread sheet, gotta love techies that make that stuff and post it on the net for free)

So, as soon as funds permit i'm off to the dyno to check the results for certain. I'm guessing 60 to 63rwhp. :D  :D

I love this bike. I hope it doesn't blow up :(

The header only comes as part of the full system as I believe that the diameters are different. You can make up your own of course from the dimensions of it (I can work these out if you need).

DRZ rebuild going slowly :)

So if you crush the header Yoshi can't help? Does this system just fit into the original header or do you reckon that he has damaged the header and it will required one to be fabricated. Sorry for the questions Neil. I have asked the guy on EBay but he has not responded. ( and I am impatient, especially since my muffler is damaged).

Your DRZ engine looks sad and lonely...........abandoned! Mind you it would be hard to get motivated about fixing the old DRZ when you have a new Husky. Still don't miss the DRZ?

77
30-07-2006, 07:34 AM
Neil I noticed that you have a manual cam chain tensioner. I take it that you don't trust the original. I have the Auto one on mine and have been thinking about installing the manual one, although maybe my model DRZ has a different type of tensioner (05 model). What are your thoughts?

Wobbly
30-07-2006, 09:06 AM
Not sure about the header bit - you may be able to order the part from yoshi but it will only fit the full system is what I should have said, because the diameters between the slip-on and full system are different. Just ask him what the diameter of the pipe is and I can tell you which it is.

I have plans for the drz. Can't say what they are yet, but suffice to say it will be more than interesting... :!:

The cam tensioner on the drz is a well know problem, but I think from memory that the 05 tensioner is OK and hasn't had recorded failures. Mine is a 2k1 model and they had known tensioner problems, as did the hyabusas of the year which share the same tensioner design. I like manual cam tensioners though as they put less strain on your cam chain (no spring tension preloading) and very rarely need adjustment anyway...

The VOR is in damn good condition and anyone looking for a real good Factory styled motard should check this out.
All new bike buyers too for that matter.
Good spares backup for VOR's. I tested for the VOR Team in 2001, and have a fairly good knowledge of them.
I can tell you the bikes ride really well, are superfast with only tweaking from whats already there, and although I think this baby is kick only are reliable from what I have seen.

Those KTM wheels and brake set look awesome, they will fetch a packet.
I even chucked in a bid for good measure. Too many days to go though.
I have a 16mm radial sitting aside for fitment with a custom short articulated (fold-up) lever. ASV C5 clutch lever for the magura hydraulic clutch m/cyl (break it every day for 5 years and they will giveu a new one). I have a top spec brembo calliper put away and one of the KTM Hard E race wave discs coming too. I got the billet case for the Veypor VR2 today.
What the fuck is wrong with me? Why can I never leave anything stock?
I might need to go see a doctor, lol

That GSXR 7/12 in the gallery cost me $25,000 to do plus my labour.
150 neddies on the dynobike dyno done by my late friend Steve H.
Close ratio RR box, at 120 on the freeway you could drop down to second, flick the clutch and fuck off on the back wheel.

Spoke with the owner and they are in mint condition used infrequently due to lack of time.

Yeah, Yeah Justin, but if you put that motor in an SMC frame and then fit that 200 wide sheet alloy stiffened and shortened swingarm, couple it up to your sweet tunes...
Then you gots yaself a motard!

Polini?
Jeez Justin,
Once again, come and see me and we can build a one off frame on the bench and fit it with a 24HP 165cc Chinese laydown motor and flat slide.
Real mini motard, look a bit like the Metrakit  for that same sum..

Polini GP3 with the upspec kit will crank out enough to flip you off the back.
I unfortunately found that out on a demo we had in a shop I worked in one day in the back lane.
Mini moto's are fun but riding them especially when you are tall you look like a dog rooting a cricket ball. :)

Wheelset prices range anywhere up to about 2500 for a brand new KTM hard parts setup, but the beringer braking setup is pretty swish and probably worth about a grand in itself. Price up a new wheelset from your local ktm dealer and you'll know how much it'd cost you in a worst case scenario...and keep an eye on ebay, as the ktm wheelsets seem to crop up fairly often...

I have 27000km's on mine, but I have had a few problems. Gearbox broke at 17200km's but it was an unusual problem that I haven't seen or heard of since. The biggest problem is the clutch master cylinders!!

Muzzard

Looks good for the Buy Now price of $5600
Has the right gear fitted atready to make a good road motard, and the 15000km is only half way to a rebuild.
How long would you want to keep it would be the question and I tend to keep bikes several years to get the best advantage out of them.
So as an '04 model and still very current in performance I think it would have been worthy of more investigation ;)

Wobbly
28-09-2006, 09:45 PM
Wow, that's a prety dang good price. Sure its got a few k's on it, but pop the head off and whack in a new set of rings if you're worried and you'd be set to go. Plus of course you'd probably want to replace the valves with over sized ones while you're at it, drop in some hotter cams, take a bit off the head, etc etc ;)

Ash - remember what we were talking about with spare motors and all?!?!? That's about your changeover price to a new bike.... :snigger:

I like my staintune, even scratched. But 2 spares is better than 1 (still have the boat anchor too). Especially for $200-300. Titanium is also cool and light.
To be honest, I like the look of the staintune more than the akra but weight could sway me - interested to see if performance would change perceptibly.

Now theres a cheap frame to start an aircooled motard, the 4th baby maybe?

I know I should be listing things for sale, but i want to bitch.

Why do people leave no room for bidding and getting something cheap? What is it with starting bid at $1,500 and buy it now at $1,500!!! That is not an auction, that is a for sale.

Dont people understand that things are only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it at that point in time. It does not matter what you paid for it, hey I might of paid $14 grand for the berg (which I did not), but it is only worth about $7 grand, cos thats what people are willing to pay. I could have it advertised for $11 and get no bits. DUR!!! It aint worth that much!

Motard rims might cost heaps to buy, but there aint the market for second had suff. So limited demand forces the price curve down and things become cheap. Wake up people!!!

Rant over.

Tom

So are you selling the Berg for $7k are ya?

devo
20-11-2006, 01:05 PM
They're only hurting themselves Sibbo. A low starting auction price gets more people bidding to start with and more people stick around who may make emotionally driven bids just to win. At this point in time there IS the demand for 2nd hand motard wheels, and $1500 is less than what people have been willing to pay. So yeah, as I was saying, they are only hurting themselves.

I think he just wants a quick sale, and he will get it.

You should be able to make it fit on the lc4 as its just your standard FCR41 ... you might have to make some adjustments on the mounting side but they shouldn't be major...

dicky
26-12-2006, 07:03 PM
There are FCR41's and there are FCR41's.
All parts are changeable, the hard part is finding which part number you need and then finding someone to buy it from.
Both airbox and manifold side mountings are changeable, but trying to find the correct part can be a nightmare. Actually finding someone that can sell you the correct part is usually worse.
Other than that, later model FCR's have a choke or hot start lever, earlier model ones don't. There is no way to know as there are no part numbers.
You will probably have to reroute vent and overflow lines as there won't be anywhere to connect them to the FCR.

Worth their weight in gold, but you pay that much in frustration unless you buy the compete carb as a kit for your specific bike.

dicky.

speaksgeek
26-12-2006, 09:26 PM
Now that's the kind of pessimistic attitude I like!
I'm not that big on having a hard time fitting things together, so might have to wait until one turns up straight off an LC4.

How come all 2strokes don't have the same fuel mix set up? sounds like it solves the practicality issues. How would you go about making something like this?

Its extra weight. If it brakes, so to does your bike. Where if you have the oil mixed into the fuel, it is fail proof...sort of.

I see, Honda must put a lot of faith in the quality/reliability of that set up then :?
Cheers

i had a similar oil injection set up i had on ts250 a while ago but the problem was the throttle cable split into two to go to the oil pump and where it split broke seperated and jammed locking the throttle full open resulting in me not being able to walk properly for 3 months, flipped her backwards and tore the ligaments in my knee. so now any bike i buy gets all that shit pulled off and a new throttle cable.
