Guys I have been in touch with Graham(1 of the owners) at Stony Creek Kart track and they are happy to have us. I will confirm price when I have numbers and it is simply a matter of setting a date...I expect sometime around Sunday the 10th of October.

We need a good turn out so it is worth them having us back and we need to make sure we have pegs sliders, axle sliders.
Please give me an indication of numbers and I will book us in and lets ride a different track!!
http://stonycreekgokarts.com.au/the-track/

Looks decent enough with enough run off...but it has to be at least as good as TT if not better.:D

What have they asked for by way of dollars on the day to have the exclusive use by us?
This is the main reason Ben lost money from the Bairnsdale track day.
If its too dear to start with and only a handful actually turn up - what then?

Nicke work dude!

The date is no good for me :(

But looks like a fun track!

Will be interested in a peg slider group buy if one goes ahead(but could prob make them if I could BF, ll)

Same type of deal as TT and it won't be exclusive...much like TT, we ride, Karts go out and so on. So I am not expecting it to be much more than the money we pay at TT.
If we don't get a good turn out they may not want us back...I can't help that but they are prepared to take a booking as soon as we set a date.
Lets go for a ride and be nice to them while we are there.
I can not see any negatives from this, from the conversation I had it will be much like what we do at TT. If it falls in a heap...well I tried but, as I said, they are good to go when we are.

Date is not fixed...are you good close to then?? If so, this goes for everyone, post a date(Sunday) that is good and I will try and get a day that works for the most numbers.

Well done that man!

To make the most of the day you really need at least 6 - 8 weeks notice ...

I'm no good until mid november and even then I don't know dates I'll be around.

Just go ahead with what suits everyone and hopefully the stars will allign for me.

Thanks fellas but it is not done yet...sounds very, very close though.

By the end of next weel I will book a date and we should be good to go.

Funny you say that Ash...he actually sounded keen to the idea of maybe running races there one day. As I said to him though, that would be in time once it all works and we get regular riders etc....

...Funny you say that Ash... he actually sounded keen to the idea of maybe running races there one day.
Not wanting to put the downer on a very positive thing ...
But I can tell you now and just from the pictures of the track you will be very hard pressed to get a permit given there is insufficient runoff as per the MV / MA track inspections and layouts I have been involved with.
We couldn't get a look in at Haunted Hills because of the runoff issues and it has more open space than whats pictured at Stoney Creek.
Having said that
Its ceratinly a good option to TT for test and tune type track days socially.

mixd
28-08-2010, 07:12 PM
No downer, simply good information, which I did not have before. Therefore means perhaps we leave the "racing" idea well alone with the view of not spoiling what might turn out to be a good thing...some more tard track time in Vic.

Top Stuff Mick  Love your work! ;)
October 10 is 3 weeks before my last Pony Express but i think i could put the tard wheels back on for this event :D
How long would it take to drive there from Melbourne?.....
Charlie, put your skinnys on and jump in with me for the drive down there?

Any one know where to get peg sliders to suit Roc Stompa Footpegs? Or how i could make something up myself?

Would love to see you and Charlie there Loris:up:

Can make peg sliders out of chopping boards, the plastic type ones, cuts to shape, sand/smooth off and use a rotary tool to grind it into shape then attach to peg. In fact doing it that way might give you some good spares out of the one board:D

If it helps I have 4(2 x Dunlops and 2 x Michelins) 19" front skinny road "type" tyres that people can have(I don't have any rears to match).
Unsure of what size Charlies EXC takes but this might be of use.

ok loris i think that this sounds like you would like to see me go for a slide with skinnies on.. while trying to keep up with you lot..
mick my front is a 21' and the rear is an 18' so what you got is kinda not real use..

i will do this so as you guys can get some numbers (if i have to) if the price does not go too high.. considering that we are sharing the track with the carts..

BTW i have no sliders for the kato so if any one has a pair that i could use for the day to keep the track guys happy then i am in.. i realy dont want to buy a pair of sliders for a single use.. might do the skateboard wheel thing if need be.
it must be on a sunday as i work saturdays:down:
holey shit it is a long way from melbourne down there!!

Korumburra is 1.5 hrs and its about 30 minutes from the to Meeniyan
Well it does the way I drive ;)

"BTW i have no sliders for the kato"

Possibly a silly question, but, are the axles hollow? Threaded road, skatey wheels?? If so I might be able to assist...not sure if it a complete kit, will have a look:up:

I think 2 hrs isn't that far to travel for some track time...similar distance to going to P.I....isn't it??

Nothing like a good slide mate :D And with the way you ride, you won't have any trouble keeping up with us...
Sundays are better for me too.....

Hey Mick, will it be 10 minutes for the carts and 10 minutes for the tards?
I hope they're not to fussed over noise?

Okay, by the looks of things it will go like this:

Open 10am and close "at Dusk"(country folk, they don't put a time limit on when to stop having fun...only when there is not enough light, we stop;))
Cost should be same as the privateer Karts - $35.00
I don't think they will be too fussed about noise as it looks like they are on a very open piece of land.
The only concern he had was more about the track so if we try to keep it on two wheels it should work fine...and cost less as you won't have to worry about bike repairs

So is the date confirmed with them and all of us for that matter, as the
10th of October Mick?
If so I'll see you there (abeit - maybe no bike unless spokes roll up soon)
I'll bring tools as usual and a large pit shade on the chance its brilliant sunshine

It is now 10am 10th Oct....just got off the phone to him, basically as above.
10am open.
$35.00(same as privateers)
I didn't discuss too much as far as track time goes, basically will be a bit new for them and us alike.
He said we have a nice area to put our bikes etc.
Access to a BBQ, I might bring some meat and have a bit of a celebration of the new track.
They sell drinks and stuff.

It will be good to see you there Muz...and everyone, let's get a good turn out. Afterall it will be close to, if not the opening track day for the warmer season.

As it turns out someone else has spoken to him about motards(Benny I assume) so that might have smoothed the way or shown that there was interest, whatever the case if it was Benny a big thumbs up to him!!

Also the disclaimer bit goes something like: I have never arranged anything like this in the past and am only trying to get some track time. But if it turns out to be no good or the like I can't help that, so don't hold it against me personally as I am only trying to get us some track time.
In saying that, this one looks, and sounds promising.
Lastly...has anyone actually seen the track?? is it as large as it looks in the pictures??

I'm in and i think Charlie is in aswell but we'll wait for him to confirm that.
It does look like a good track and it's alot bigger than TT :D
I'm looking forward to it!
Thanks Mick

Mixed,
Good work, but i hate to say it, but went down there a few month back and spoke to the guys running the show. Even jumped on their computer and showed them this site as they didn't really know what Supermoto was. They have had mini motards on the track b4 and weren't too impressed.
- They said they had to look into their side of the insurance thing (obviously they have but didn't get back to me)
- Doesn't sound like u have been down there, cos noise is a BIG concern of theirs. They actually have a noise restriction as they are right next to the horse racing track and a footy oval (footy will be over by then) So if anyone wanting to go has a loud bike, quiet'n it down!!!!!!!!!!!!! (stock)
- Track time might be limited, as it is a private track open to the public (as TT is) they have to have times for the Hire Karts, then the guys who practice on their own Karts then whoever next (that'd be us..)
- Crash protection, all bikes will need to have AXEL sliders & Peg Sliders, as there concern of if there is crashes, the bitumen will be damaged, (again, as it is a private track, they payed for it them selves, and the minimotos did damage the track)

I don't want to be a downer on this at all but i have been chatting to these guys for a while, not lately though, and i know what they want, and how they run things, just some details need to be stipulated by urself if u r RUNNING this day, as people might get disapointed, the riders or the track owners, and u don't want the first time there to be the last...........

My option was to have a couple guys down there first to show them what it was all about, B4 bringing a mass of unknowns down......

good luck.

BV

BennyV
30-08-2010, 07:50 AM
Mixed, if u r running this u really need to chat to the guys about the issues, noise, rider protection, bike protection needed and the like.
Cos if a heap ot tards rock up and they all have loud pipes, i'm guessing they all be driving home again....... This needs to be cleared up ASAP, cos the gist i got was the nothing loud please, the 2 stroke Karts were looked at as being on the limit of too loud, and they are quied as compared to most 4 stroke bikes, and thats standatd bikes, i reckon if u've got a loud bike, fit std pipe or leave it in the shed!
All riders MUST have FULL leathers.....

Mixed, this needs to be done properly, not half arsed, find out ALL then info, ask ALL the questions, cos if u don't it could end up a fuck up, and we (as supermoto riders) don't need that. Track time is hard enough to find!

The track is not to large, bigger than TT though, and the guys that run it seem like good guys, but a little nervous about something they dont know about.
So in saying that i'm not sure a full on slaught of 30 tards rocking up down there is the best of ideas first up. But if uve spoked to them about that then sound good!

mixd

Maybe they have thought about things and need the $$.
I am going down there this weekend. I have spoken to Graham 3 times on the phone. Basically went something like this: are your bikes the ones that run crash protectors? Yes.
He has checked his insurance and is welcome to have us. We will probably, as Muz said, never race there but it sounds like it will be much like TT.
The way I see it the best way to do it is for us to go, do a track day, behave, show them that we pay $$ and that we buy drinks and food and that their general experience from us being there was a good one and who knows.
At worst they don't want us back, at best we got somewhere, besides TT to ride.

I hope you come Benny for the track day and I have PM'd Markee and was going to try to drag him down there next weekend. Just for a look, no bikes involved. If you want to meet us there you are welcome.
Are our bikes really that much louder than a hopped up 2 stroke Kart??

mixd
30-08-2010, 07:55 AM
You posted between me, the way I see it lets go, lets behave and they should want us back. It is not like we want to go there every week...not even every fortnight. Once a month at most we would be happy, probably more like every 6 to 8 weeks. I can not see this being an issue for them...in this financial climate it is probably good business for them.

mixd
30-08-2010, 07:57 AM
Also, I said that we will have between 20 to 30 riders/bikes, which is was happy with, he could cater "upto" 50 so we have a fair way to go before we reach that mark.
We are booked in for the 10th...I didn't/don't want to over complicate it for them, we turn up, we pay, we ride...much like the Privateers do at their track. Not issues, nothing extra needed on there behalf. It might not be Bairnsdale or Pleven..but it is better than what we have to ride on in Vic at the momment...which is not a lot.

Good work Mixd
Time to loop up the skinnies again. I might take you up on one of those 19's you have. I run front tyres backwards on the rear as it's the only way I can get a 19" street tyre for an MX bike (not too concerned about ripping the tyre casing apart with the 125), and the old Battleaxe I've got on now is looking a bit shabby.
Track looks good, with a half decent back straight to give the bigger bikes a chance to stretch their legs. It's twice the size of TT, which is only 450m. If everyone with a road registered bike puts the stock silencers back on/baffles back in that should help with the noise issues a bit. As far as damaging the track goes, that's easy, no one crash! ;)

mixd
30-08-2010, 09:54 AM
You are welcome to a pair of those 19" tyres...I can bring them with me or bang on a courier. I also have a old, near new 235/80/17 and a used, but usable 120/70/17 Dunlop road tyre if that helps someone else get up and running for the 10th of Oct.
I personaly think we will be fine, go there enjoy ourselves, show them we are human and have a nice day.
And then look forward to the next time we go

Sweet, I'll take a couple if you're giving them away. But they would also be good for anyone with mates who are maybe thinking about having a go on MX bikes with standard wheels. Halfway there then, only need a 21" front, and they're easy to find. So if anyone else wants some, I'll just take the one.
What suburb are you in?

mixd
30-08-2010, 02:06 PM
Do you need a pair or only the one?? I don't mind giving them to you, but as you say, if it helps someone with a MX bike come and ride would rather spread it out. I originally thought you need a couple until I re-read your post.
If no one takes them then you are still welcome to them mate!!

does anyone know how to cook a good bbq? :D
Is the BBQ a fixture at the track or are we carting one in?
I have a gracious Landlord so might even bring you all a burger sized peice of venison and we have burgers for lunch.
I dont have access to a bike with a setup at the moment (WRF is dirt only and in Wangaratta with my son / KLR still needing the front wheel done) so are happy to cook for you.
I aint bringing the rolls or any salad / other fillings for the burgers - thats someone elses bag ;)

It aint real hard to pick up a salad in a bag from Coles,
A bag of bread rolls or 2 - and we used to eat well at lunch at TT
One of my racing partners ( no such thing as sponsorship in my language)
Rutherglen Premium Lamb supplied the lamb-burgers and gourmet snags then
Alex used to organise us some RedBulls -and hope he reads this in preparation if its still possible :p

I was having a look/read on the Stony Creek Kart Track web site and it said the track is closed when the horses are racing at the horse/race track. I was a little worried about riding so close to horses but it looks like it won't be a problem
I can't wait! :D

mixd
05-09-2010, 02:22 PM
:up:Here goes:
It is now the on 100% SUNDAY 3RD OCTOBER 10am. We changed dates as they have a group of privateer kart guys booked in on the 10th.
I have just got back from taking a drive down there this morning to have a look at the place so now I can say all this with 100% confidence in what I say. Also Muzzard met me there so that there was a second opinion...which was good of him.
Graham welcomes us there. Noise has to comply with the kart rules and regs which is no louder than 104db measure from 4m above the kart. We should all be under that as most bike pipes are in the 90s.
I am not very experienced at all this but I do know what looks like a fun place to ride and this looks brilliant. 3 big 180 degree corners on to a straight with enough run off...far, far more than TT. There is a nice tight section and plenty of good cornering to be had...in fact I can not wait to see some of the fast blokes carving it up.:D
The plan was to have taken some photos to entice some of you guys but the weather was shite and it simply didn't work out that way:down:
Anyway, another bonus was he didn't care if there was 1 or 100 of us, obviously it would be good to get a decent bunch of us down there. But it was not a big issue for them. Graham is a very straight forward type of bloke.
It is going to be the same as TT,
$35.00
10 minute sessions, unless there is nobody else waiting then we simply keep going. There is enough space for our bikes and plenty of places to sit etc.
Roll on the 3rd of October.

Mods...should I start a 3rd of Oct thread or keep going with this one??

mixd

I forgot to put in, if the 3rd of Oct puts anyone out we can make it either the 17th or the 24th of October...just when we were there the 3rd was a completely clean page in the diary.
I, also, can't farken wait!!

Just stick with a date, if history is anything to go by - there will be plenty of "no shows"..

Was power avail for warmers?
Do they sell red bull?

Mick has covered much of the details and the change to the 3rd is the best advantage as it a clean page as indicated ...

The track has a good surface, its new so not a large buildup on it rubber wise.
Its tight,
Tighter than most outdoor venues and accordingly will be relatively low gears in the corners so anyone wondering about gearing - stock MX gearing will get you around there really quickly and take full advantage of the engine braking ;)
Theres sufficient runoff at the end of both the straight sections and the direction is anti-clockwise like most kart venues.
Thats the safest way to run the day so would suggest that be adopted as the 'normal' direction.
It allows for some technical riding for those able to slide the bike with a direction change involved -
Any of you that rode Albury - Wodonga will remember the end of the front straight having the same arrangement.
Theres runoff - so its OK to fluff it a few times and run deep as many will
Lots of passing opportunities for the trackcrafty with both early and late apexes in there - along with multiple apexes as you drive onto the straight proper.
It will be a good track to ride for test and tune and from rider coaching perspective.

Nice ute too Mick
Cheers for this morning Champ
See you on the 3rd :p

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTT!!! :D
Sounds good to me! I can't wait.
Hey Muzz, will you be available on the day for some 'coaching'? What are your $$ rates?
Well done guys
BTW, did you check out their BBQ? :)

I would say no power Marty...
If people don't show they will miss what will be a fantastic first ride at what should become a regular thing.
It is very easy to get to, basically follow the one road from Melbourne.
Unfortunately we had to change the date, so the 3RD October it is.
Will be some good riding to be had at this place and, as I said earlier, Graham seems like a straight shooter.

3rd is better for me. Leave form submitted so should be good to go.

I can give you my opinion Loris - thats always free
Certainly help you where I can ;)
I dont think you will need warmers Marty
2 laps and your good to go with the angles and nearly stop / start corners :p

* All bikes must be fitted with axle sliders and peg sliders *

If you have no sliders -
Do a thread search here
Theres a few of them and the solutions others have used

Good work Mick. I'm out for the 3rd of October as I've already committed to do the Master of Mac Park on that weekend. This will probably also see the Nicolson boys out as they've said they'd ride Mac Park too.
Enjoy the day fella's see ya at the next one.

Mick it might pay to start a new thread as well with the date and location in the title.

Do they want us to have catch cans on our bikes?
Might be a good idea to have them....

I new when we were adjusting the date that it would overlap with something...bit of a bugger but we will stay with the 3rd and I will re-book for sometime in December when we are down there.

Will start a new thread.

Loris I would suggest catch cans would be best on carb'd bikes.
