Righto, so when i got my DRZ, the bloke before me had used it as a trailbike only, so its covered in stratches in all the usual places from being dropped on trails, eg:
barkbusters, side plastics & radiator shroud.
basicall all my plastics have some degree of scratching, except the tank.
a lot of the scratches arent bad, but some are more "gouge" variety.

Has anyone done much in the way of sanding out or covering up of light/moderate scratches?

I'd like to get some fresh plastic in the future, but right now, wheels & brakes are higher on the financial priority than cosmetics :(

cheers

I'd just live with them and then buy new ones - plastics are cheap fortunately.

An alternative is plenty of stickers :lol2:

Try maguires plastic polish it is supposed to be really good. You could also look at buying the clear stickers (Ringmaster) they make the bike look better than new. They make the plastics look really glossy. Have a look at my YZ pics and you will see what I mean, (all plastics are original and it's an 02) The front guard and the tank don't have it on.

Try this stuff, i've used and it's alright. You have to do a lot of sanding though so be prepared to lose a day mucking around with it.

You can buy a full set of plastics for about $400 though.

Scratches are cool anyway, i put new plastics on my bike when i built it up, then dropped it half a dozen times learning to mono and back it in. . . The new scratches stayed, wear em like a badge of honor.

The big side covers are $76 I believe for both and the tank shrouds are also about that much. You have to buy a little front fender anyway (my Polisport was $45) I would not spend time sanding plastic if I were you. The best stuff i have found for cleaning my plastics (dirt out of scratches etc) is cheap chain cleaner, works great. To shine em up I have heard but never used Mr Sheen. It is the stickers that are expensive.

Wait till you have fallen over a few times the get new plastic

(I got these prices about 4 months ago)
