Guys just got a email back from the race admin -
The S1 and S2 class will be combined and there will be 1 Practice session on Friday, 1 Qualifying session on Saturday along with 2 races and another 2 races Sunday.
There will be a dirt section and asphalt section. We are still confirming track layout so there is a possibility of a few jumps in there to.
Pity there will be only one practice on Friday as it will be a lot of waiting around but the Sat / Sun sounds good!
I am just about to fax off my entry so I am in like flynn! :-)

Just for the moment, as we have alot of interest and limited spots - 34. Could you please not send in your entries. Any genuine expression of interests please let me know. Its not really going to be a race for newbies.
NSW riders and members the club will sort you out. Vico's let me know if you are in.
I know this seems strange but we need to know we have the numbers and are well organised. Everything is moving along nicely!!!!

No I am not going to run in the top ten but if this meeting was only going to be a demo with A grade supermoto riders it should have been stated from the start.

Yikes really??, I'm suprised that they would consider a dirt section then considering the dirt that will get tracked on to the tarmac. The superbike boys will definitely have a cry about that one. I'll be very interested to see what part of the circuit they use.... I wouldn't expect many tarmac corners considering the whole of the main track only has 6.
who knows mate, but they have a plan and are very confident it will work

No doubt Jov, and it will be great for supermoto to have the exposure in front of a crowd that may not normally get to see it, regardless of circuit layout. Wasn't meaning to sound negative at all, I'm just surprised that they would consider using the main track. Cant wait to see it unfold further....

I have been having correspondence with the operators of Winton and Wakefield Park with a view to televised supermoto events to take place in the near future.
Purpose built tracks is what is being spoken of at moment.
As more comes to hand I will post it up.
This is a great thing for supermoto in Queensland and hopefully there will be more races to the series as support.
Hopefully there are enough Vic riders to support it. Past events have shown a limited amount of available motard racers in Vic.
Stevo
23-07-2010, 05:23 PM
No matter Pauly, we hungry NSW motarders will find it easy to travel to Winton - and Wakefield is just up the road. The numbers will come if the track is right and the entry fee is reasonable.
Hopefully you and our other Queensland Bro's will make the trip too.

Its all very positive stuff taking place ATM so lets hope the flow on is as expected next year,
More eventing for supermoto across the eastern seaboard.
The operators of both Winton and Wakefield being the one entity are making serious consideration to providing a specific setup for SM at both venues.
I have hinted that to build the sections necessary to make it supermoto specific be done in tar much like Pleven so as to offset the usual dirt issues we have run into so many times over the last 10 years.
I am working on a bike currently to compete the Winton and Wakefield events early next year and with all being good it will have its shakedown and sorting done soon.
If there is anyone coming along to spectate at this event, a timetable can be downloaded here (http://www.asbk.com.au/assets/documents/2010ASBK_Rd5_EventSchedule.pdf)

Race two just had a restart, from what I hear Darren Webb was taken to the medical centre.
Lot's of phone calls, Facebook and texts going on today. PS. Go Ben!

Last I heard was from Sat lunch time.
Gaz was going in for an op on his spleen, his son was on his way up for moral support and his bike was in good condition still.
I repeat, his bike is OK.
Stevo
22-08-2010, 07:20 AM
Gaz called me from his hospital bed and wanted to know what happened - didn't know if it was in a race or practice - didn't remember getting on the bike.
Both wrists are broken and he will be in hospital for a week - doctor told me they have to be careful and keep an eye on the spleen.
Bike has a bent footpeg and melted barkbuster cover.
We're going over this morning to see him.
I think Webby is basically ok but they kept him in overnight for observation, X-rays, etc. I expect we'll see him trackside today. He had a big crowd watching him backing in big - he gave them a real show.
Been interesting doing the warp speeds in the corners, shame we couldn't do the dirt yesterday, but we are looking forward to getting into it today.
Feedback is the biggest grid of the round and the noise is very impressive.
We will re-qualify so it's a clean sheet today.
Hope everyone gets through safely.:up::up:

Race hard Steve ;)
Grass was sticky as, no issues there. It was the bog hole in the middle of it that caused the issues for some (me included).
Overall great start to us being regulars at this event and it can only get better from here!
A weekend of mixed fortunes, some people hit the ground (some harder then others) and after Friday practice on a wet roadrace track, it somehow turned into a Supermoto track with dirt (and mud) by Sunday afternoon. No doubt the promoters and the officials learned a bit (some of it about track layout) but the overall feel was that it was a good event and it was good to showcase Supermoto in front of a new crowd.
Unfortunately the SM racing proper was on after the Superbike finale (The lunchtime race was turned into a qualifying because of the track change and the last race was split into 2 races) so a limited number saw the race but most people saw the qualifying and it was well received.
It was good to see so many of the NSW boys (and girl) make the trip up. Not such a good trip for Gaz and Webby. I went to see Gaz in hospital on my way home and he was pretty talkative, he was a bit mixed up and the memory isn't too flash but that's entirely normal after a bang on the head, broken bones and industrial strength painkillers, I'm sure he'll be back to his normal self after a few days bedrest.
Angus was very smooth and showed off his considerable skills, it was awesome to watch him back it in from very high speed for at least 50m before the dirt/tarmac transition. Ben Nicholson did amazingly well, running double duty on the plastic bike and motard, I was surprised he had the stamina to kick-start the Kawasaki, let alone win the last leg! Unfortunately for Angus, a mechanical problem ended his race but he had fallen prior to this which allowed Ben to close the gap.
It was great to see so many Supermoto bikes out there, hopefully we can make it a regular thing. It was great to watch but at the same time it was very frustrating that I couldn't race [or walk]. When you are forced to be a spectator, watching people who you normally race with, you can't help running the race in your head and thinking where you would finish. Of course, in your head, you never crash, you always do your best starts and always finish!! So it's often a little rose-tinted ;)

I really enjoyed watching the supermoto and was glad that I hung around to catch the last race.
Shame about the guys that got badly hurt - to those who were out there riding, was the dust as bad as it appeared in the afternoon sun from where I was watching? It looked so chaotic...
I can't help but think that if the promoters put a bit more thought into the track layout it would have been more interesting , safer and maybe even more fun for you guys, but still as mentioned, good chance to showcase supermoto in front of a new crowd.
I made sure to give a big round of applause at the end... you guys deserved it!

Yeh the dust was probably worse than it looked from the spectators view!!!
All in good fun though..........it was soooo good to get to do the dirt section finally on the last day.
That was only my second time racing real supermoto and I LOVE IT! I really hope it can make a come back because its the best racing I have done yet. :D

oh and Tom, if you're reading this... I was cheering for you mate! :D hahaha
Yeah I didnt quite have the confidence to give it a go in the dirt after doing my knee. Glad I didnt push it too much, it's 20 times worse today as it is.
That mud pit really got the better of a lot of us.
Thanks James. I had a really fun weekend. I was a little dubious about how the dirt races would go down. The big jump was ok - apart form smashing my knees every time I bottomed the bike out. I think everyone was in the same boat there. I ended up getting my right knee strapped because it was a bit sore. The only bit about the track I didn't like was the mud section. It was completely unpredictable - you could ride the same line a few times and it 'd be completely different every time. The sweeping grass section was awesome fun and the metal ramp was great.
I blew the fuse on the ignition circuit when I crashed in practice so nearly didn't make it out for the last two races (left warming the bike up really late). I was just lucky that I thought to check it when the bike wouldn't start. Ripped the blown fuse out with my lockwire pliers and jammed the spare one in. Just made it out for a pit lane start.
Saturday on the bitumen only I had a lot of fun being a little more in my element. i really need to practice some more dirt riding.
My bike is a bit smashed up after 2 crashes on Sunday (Including Matty M using it as an impromptu jump :p). I'm a little sore as well but nothing Neurofen and rest won't fix. I'm pretty happy with 8th in the S1 class for the weekend.
Wayne Reed (www.osella.com.au) said he took about 1500 pictures of Supermoto and he'll put some previews up this week.

Sorry i missed it. Sounds like it was a real blast. Even tho i couldnt make it at least i was still pushing the sumo barrow up in mareeba
good work everyone that raced, was talking to yarive last night after the event and he was saying he was very happy with it and is has spoken to QLD raceway about putting in a permanent dirt section and he is trying to run at least 3 rounds next year the same as this one worked. hope he can pull it off.
yeah it was awesome to put sm back infront of the crowds again. I think Queensland Raceway has huge potential as a venue. The dirt and jumps will only get better. Its been a while since we did a full sm track and it was awesome.
Like a few others i tweaked my knee on the flat land jump and I am glad i didnt do that last race cause i can barely stand up today without my knee calapsing.
I snapped around 200 pics of the Supermoto guys and gal, some shit and other's are brilliant.. Even captured Devo and Tom's crashes in the bog hole as well as other's..
Good to see some familiar faces out there tearing it up..
The future of Supermoto at QR is 100% certain!!! Dirt section included.. ;)
Now time to sort through 600+ pics and host the good ones, I'll be back..
Nice work Glen, good to see you again.

Well done to all those blokes racing over the weekend and to Ben of course for the overall
Bog hole looked a most excellent point to pass half the field ...
Just stay on ;)
Fantastic to see it finally getting some decent backing as its probably the better of all motorcycle sport disciplines to spectate.
With the ASBK having a view to longevity, congrats to those who have worked on it ...
Lets hope other possible promoters / track operators also standing in the wings a bit undecided, see this example and step up

What an awesome weekend, I was stoked to be a part of such a big event. Probably got to inspect the track a little to close a few more times than I would have liked but I had a ball. I had better than aticipated results which will keep me going until the cars and bikes weekend.
Daves speed and consitancy out classed me again, I can see this battle going on for a long time to come.
It was great to see the support from all riders and the comradery over the weekend, even in the practice on friday when a rider went down the number of bikes that stopped to help out was good to see.
Tom Sorry about the rear end incident!!!..... I had alsorts of bad one liners here, but I think I will leave that alone.
Matt and Jovian thanks for sharing your pit, power and advice I will shout the beer at the next event.
Benny nice wheel stand down the back straight the crowd loved it!!
it may hurt today but think of all the fun we had over the weekend!!
Thanks all I had an a great time and will deffinately be doing it all again next time.

What would make this event even better would be to see it reported in the Motorcycling press and on the web other than here repeating what we're all talking about.

I had a ripper weekend, was stoked to be part of such an event and I achieved my goals for the weekend.
The niggling issues with the bike were resolved at this meet. (thanks to the teams at both LMC and Ash's). I quickly realised which tyre compound was required on Saturday morning. Thereafter I had lots of confidence in the bike all weekend.
Like others, I was a bit dubious about the dirt section, but by late Sunday I couldn't get enough of it, it was awesome. I quickly realised landing head first was not going to be the best style and whilst the mud was tricky, I loved it !!!!! And how good was it trying to find your lines in the dust, I almost ran into a couple of Onda riders in the dust.
Bike and body held up well too. The spare bike will now be changed back to a 250 for MX practice.
Am super pumped about the prospects of future ASBK meets next year :up:

Went to see Garry in hospital last night.
His 2 arms are in plaster as both wrists are broken. He has to get the nurse to wipe his arse for him.
He also has a couple of broken ribs. I wasn't allowed to make him laugh so I couldn't tell him any jokes.
He has had a cat scan but hasn't had any results from that as yet.
Apart from that he seems to me alright. He can't remember anything from the first lap of practice on Friday.
He is hoping to get out at the weekend. His son is going to drive him back to Sydney.
