As it seems the Summer Series for Victoria has been confirmed, is there any VSMR members planning to race the series?
I am thinking of riding this series in the S3/Clubman classes, and will if I compete, do so under the VSMR banner. There is some support from within the VSMR structure and thoughts are to field a 'team' to put bikes in each class to lift the profile of the street motard scene.
Any interested parties?

Not unless they have a "slow, wobbly and untalented" class where they give you a bike to crash instead of your own!

But no, that'd be a no for me, but I'm happy to crew for those who want to.

When we were out on the Spurs the other day Neil, I didn't notice anything slow, wobbly or untalented. You punt the DRZ OK, most wouldn't have kept with you, so I wouldn't think you would be in last!

I'd be in but it's just a money thing at the moment. Once that's sorted I'll be there racing, but it'll be a 2 stroke. (Istill love the oil burner)
Also note that things could change very quick for me and in that case I'll be there not doubt.

I dont do too much these days Ash, just fiddling with the import/manufacturing scene and accordingly I haven't had an income like that for a while. Not for the lack of trying though!

My grandfather always said to me 'Life is a journey, not a friggin' destination'.
If you want to ride a round or two of racing, join a club and ride a few days at club level on a rec licence, and see if your boss cant do anything to help you out at the State level. Put your fingers in some pies Ash, you might come out with the sixpence!

Yamaha Victorian Supermotard Championship

Newsletter :1

17 Feb 05

Well it has taken a while, rumors have been spread and now its official, the prodigal son has returned. Supermotard racing is back in Victoria.

Supermotard Australia is extremely proud to announce the Yamaha Victorian Supermotard Championship.

Yamaha have been forthright in their backing of this burgeoning sport and with their assistance we will conduct 3 rounds at all ends of the state, Wodonga, Bairnsdale and Cobden.

19/20 March 2005 Round 1, Yamaha Festival of Sport at the Albury Wodonga Kart Club, Sheathers rd, Wodonga

The track can be viewed at http://www.vka.asn.au/clubs/albury/

30 April/ 1 May 2005 Round 2, Bairnsdale Kart Club, Aerodrome rd Bairnsdale

The track can be viewed at http://www.vka.asn.au/clubs/bairnsdale

18/19 June 2005 Round 3, Southwest Kart Club, Grayland st, Cobden

The track can be viewed at http://www.vka.asn.au/clubs/southwest/

All rounds will be conducted at Karting tracks, this has been made by the invaluable support of the Kart Club owners who are justifiably cautious about damage to their track. We believe this relationship that we are building will see more and more tracks opening up to us and bring extra revenue to the clubs through track hire.

The Albury Wodonga Festival of Sport (FOS) committee has been instrumental with the huge publicity that is building in the city. FOS has listed our event in their program, which has been issued Shire wide and local TV, radio and newspaper media advertising will lead us into the meeting two weeks before.

The Albury Wodonga Motorcycle Club (AWMCC) and local businesses have agreed to help promote this event via fliers, posters and in store promotions. All in all, the town is getting behind the event so we will do our bit and put on a great show for them.

Each event will be based on family fun and YOU can expect to be involved in giveaways and the open pit will be an opportunity for our guests to enjoy the delights of Supermotard. If you are a competitor intending to enter, (even C Graders) we ask that you bring some promotional material or giveaway items such as stickers, caps or similar, a pen or texta for autographs, we will be able to supply posters and programs promoting the championship and encourage you to become involved in promoting yourself and our sport. It’s the little things that matter to spectators and you can do your part to make their visit memorable.

All competitors will receive a free entry into a raffle with the main prize being a Yamaha PW50 valued at over $1800. There will be three Yamaha PW50’s given away through three raffles over the championship and extra tickets will be available on the day of each meeting.

Entry forms for the first round at Wodonga are available at www.supermotard.com.au in the calendar section and with the assistance of the Albury Wodonga Festival of Sport , we will be able to offer competitors and spectators accommodation in the city and also a social night on Friday and Saturday. For more information on accommodation call or email gemmax@bigpond.com

All three rounds will be run over 2 days with competition and timed practice only on Sunday. Saturday will be an open practice day and will be open to all levels of riders not just competitors, so if you wish to have a ride but aren’t into competing this is your perfect opportunity to a ride in a controlled environment. To ride all day Saturday will only be $70 with half day rates at $50. Pre bookings must be made to ensure a spot through email at gemmax@bigpond.com

Tickets for Sunday’s activities will be $8 for spectators and each entry will receive four passes, extra passes can be purchased at the gate on the day of racing.

Please note that only the Wodonga round will be an all road event as the dirt section will not be available, we anticipate events in the future at Wodonga to incorporate a dirt section.

Steel ski jumps are being manufactured to bring in an added element to competition and will be used throughout the series. (Don’t panic you road guys, they will not be THAT high!)

Power will NOT be available for competitors so bring your own generators, as well as shades/tents. Your vehicle will be not allowed to remain in the pit area after 8.30am so turn up early.

Around $1700 in prize money will be made available for the 1st round for the Festival of Sport Pro Challenge with 1st place $700, 2nd $400, 3rd $200, 4th $100, 5th $50, 6th $50, 7th $50, 8th $50, 9th $50, 10th $50.

Further prizes will be announced very soon

Bridgestone, through Raven Distribution will be providing a tyre changing, sales and tyre grooving service at all events and are contactable on 0414 562 929.

A late entry fee of $50 will be strictly enforced so don’t leave it to the last moment and if you wish to get your usual lucky race number you will need to enter early.

Well thats Wodonga over and done with except for the repairs to the damaged bikes, And now time to start planning for May 1 at Bairnsdale...
I assume we will get an equal slather as Wodonga, track day wise, on the 30 April...
To be more prepared what do we need, and who has it to utilise?
Shade could be greater and I will try to get another cheapy shade tent to join to the existing one, that will get us 4 bikes under comfortably.
Track purpose tyres, slicks would be nice, but do we get enough time in each session to utilise them and get them to temperature?
Crash knobs and more compliance with GCR's as in lockwiring and bottling.
M.A. Rec licence on annual issue would be an advantage to red tape cutting.
LESS CRASHING
More participants!

Will get some detail regarding accommodation as soon as possible and start a thread for that then...

For those of you who met my mate Sam with the XR 600 we are building, at the track day scrutineering, he picked up his rims today (WCM Italy Silver polished) and his spokes should be here in the next few days to lace to his stock XR hubs. Another for Bairnsdale! He's hooked after watching how much fun I was having track wise when I normally ride offroad with Sam through the mountains around Beechworth/Eldorado on either my sons CR125 or my motard and now realises the advantage his wheel purchase will offer him as he rides it on the road now with knobbies fairly regularly...

Excellent! Sam seems like a good fella, be nice to have someone else in on the ride group as well 8)

I'm in for the track day of course - the repairs to my bike took all of about an hour and basically dealt with me putting the mini indicators on the front I'd been meaning to do for a while and replacing the plastic casing on the rear with one on the front. And that was it

Slicks are a possibility, but could be more of a liability without warmers as the sessions tend to be short, so you'd just be getting them up to temp and it'd be over. But some dedicated track tyres are probably a decent idea, maybe some grooved rennsports? :-k

I should be able to provide a tent. I also have a set of slicks comming (with grooves for road use )
I will have sliders for all aswell, I'm waiting for the lathe to be free again to make the rest!! I may have the YZ ready in time, which would be nice

There is a few threads running concerning the Summer Series and I have locked a few to stop confusion.
Current threads are the one you are reading now and the relevant thread to the coming round of racing in the track days forums for those riding the practice/coaching days.
A seperate thread for those wanting accommodation booked is also in this forum...
