I'm in.
The 540kit, 41mm bored carb, 1mm O/S valves and un-shrouded head with 8/33 cam should be run in nicely for this blast. Hope to get her back on the road in 2 weeks when the head and Carb gets back from the states.

out of interest. do these tend to end up full on hacks or just a spirited ride? i.e. Do I wear my track suit? I've given up riding like a twat on the road but if everyone else does I usually can't hold back. lol

I ride with leathers all the time...

Given the public location of where we are riding and posting, we all follow the rules of the roads.

Gonzo
12-05-2010, 09:46 AM
How you ride is up to you. What you wear is up to you.

I'll be a bit spirited at times, but on the road I always keep plenty up my sleeve just in case.
And leathers. Because gravel rash hurts.

MarkeeMark
12-05-2010, 11:39 AM
Also is should be noted that you ride at your own risk and SupermotoAus.com is not in anyway affiliated with this ride in any way, shape or form. It is just a place for communication about the ride.

Pedro
12-05-2010, 11:51 AM
I always ask when attending rides like this for the first time. I stopped doing rides with a lot of groups as they were basically total squids who spent more time showing off on 1 wheel and being dangerous that actually riding. (like the guy I saw on an R1 this morning trying to get his knee down near roseville bridge) If however I'm going out with my mates and I know the pace is good then I'll opt for the 1peice race suit, otherwise its my jacket and draggins.

don't get me wrong, ride how you like but if you take me (or anyone else for that matter) out in the process because you were being a dick then there will be hell to pay. I'm happy with speed and there is a time and a place but if its a stunt show I won't come and I'll see you at the track :D:D

thats it.

Gonzo
12-05-2010, 12:20 PM
There'll probably be some guys doing wheelies when we take off. Some guys will go fast, some will go slow.
But once we get moving it's all about riding.

Stevo
12-05-2010, 08:36 PM
Pedro has a good point. Reckon we should all use our noggins by riding to the conditions and watching out for each other, the idea is to get together and enjoy a day out on the road - maybe find some good routes we didn't already know of.
Last thing we want is someone spoiling the whole thing by getting too excited.
Anyone wanting to get stuck right in should probably be booking in for ride days or races so you can really let your hair down.

I wanna see a few of these rides go ahead - should be lots of fun.

See you at the BBQ

Pedro
13-05-2010, 09:59 AM
right on..

if you want to ride like a tool buy a gixxer and go ride with them to the ice cream shop.

Vash

Why ride a supermoto if you don't ride like an idiot? They are even more hooligan than a sports bike IMO.
Not that i ride like one, but i can cruise around just fine. If i had a racey thing like a KTM or Berg, i'd be going insane with the wheelies and sliding.
The DRZ keeps me level with its tall ass gearing so i can barely wheelie the thing.

Stevo

Pedro

Fred Gassit

It's leathers for me and no dickhead stunts. (Wheelies are cool though:))I do ride the twisties as fast as I feel comfortable and I do not overtake unless invited. If anyone shows me the wheel into a corner without being invited or without plenty of distance, I'll show them the inside of an ambulance. (I always check my mirrors and pull over for faster/better riders, every time ASAP) I've nearly been killed by a squid that ran me off the road doing his best kamikaze impersonation on the old road once before and I don't want that to happen again.
I'm looking forward to a great safe ride with you blokes.

I'm impressed that you guys care enough to be thinking about these things, I have seen groups of riders showing off before and thought what a pack of wankers - the impression you leave as a rider in public is the one I get painted with by people who see those actions. We have enough trouble trying to get riding venues today because of public opinion.

Love your work!

Good news guys, I like a safe trip, one that everyone comes back from. Ill bring a first aid kit just in case. Never know when you might need to re-attatch an indicator with wiggles bandaids! As for the dress of the day, I have no leathers as yet so unless I can rent that sumo suit again, or its some kevlar duds, jacket and MX boots. I have a new road lid too, not MX I know, but I prefer the field of vision. Oh and I cant wheelie to save myself, if fact if you see me doing one, take a photo as Ill immediately follow with a demonstration of how my auxiliary arse brake works. Oh and what happens if its raining? Is it all bets are off?

Superdave

You are correct Dave, it is a Honda thing.........you don't count.........:D:D:D

Oh, and don't worry about the Road helmet, about half the SM guys I know a ride with them now, especially if you wear glasses.

yes. a teaspoon of cement. If its totally pissing it down and super cold tho my motivation might start to fade.

I don't really see how people get busted on bikes in town, you're in town, slow the f*(k down! I've had an SP2, Hypermotard and now the FS. I've riden pretty much every day for 10 years now. I've come off heaps but never been done for speeding (yet)

Thinking quite seriously about buying one of those helmet cams now. The only down side is I can film everything round me ........ but not me!

On the subject of wet weather on the group ride day. I took the XR650 out in the rain for the first time today. It was like sitting on the back of a 120kg tuna that had just been hooked, recently broke up with his girlfriend and found a parking ticket attatched to the fishing line. Granted I am not an experienced wet weather rider and need some more practice and confidence. Not sure how much concrete in a can of HTFU it would take for me, but if its raining on the day I may end up at home wearing a snuggie with a warm milo, watching The Notebook!

Pedro
19-05-2010, 08:19 AM
I love riding in the wet. I'll always hit the track in the wet and I even rode today. I'll even ride in the freezing cold (I am a pom!) but what really gets my goat is when its cold and wet! that combination I don't like.

I rode my SP2 down to canberra once, it was -something in Goulburn (or however its spelt) and I was wearing fully vented leathers with a fleece over it. I've never hugged a tank and tucked in so much in my life! was funny when i went past the speed trap at 110kph looking like Rossi doing 300kph! the cop even had a second look..

Vash
19-05-2010, 08:23 AM
Riding in the wet is always a mission of uncertainty.
Will i hit some oil this corner? will i lean just alittle too much? whoop, there goes the rear end for abit, whoop there goes the front...
I don't like riding in the wet. But since the DRZ is my only vehicle its gotta be done. I just ride like a nanny since i gotta deal with all those slippery white lines, oil, diesel, cars...

Gonzo
19-05-2010, 09:08 AM
The wet bit sucks, but the roads being empty of almost everyone else (including the police) makes up for it.
Just back off the pace a bit and enjoy the odd slide.

Went to Wiseman's for a quick look at the park near the ferry yesterday to see what was available. I will get there early on Sunday and claim a spot at the wood fired barby and have things under way. Gaz is coming to lend a hand.

We'll put up the quick shade and our banner so we will be easy to find. All need to play nice at the lunch stop since we will be easily identified with the club banner flying (probably didn't need to mention that, but it makes me feel better).

Gonna be a top day.

considering my bike has no oil, needs the valves checking, has brake pads that are screwed I'm on a push to get the bike there. however I'll drive to the bbq or follow the bikes in the truck if anyone wants to come along. not a dead cert yet as I might get on the case this arvo, brakes are overrated anyhow.

if riding etc we can meet up at the first servo on pacific highway after doing a right turn off mona.

This isnt a trail ride. Its a road ride, that has a slight amount of gravel road involved.

You wont need anything else.

Done JamesB. Stu? OK with you? Meet outside Bunnings on Mona Vale Road at 0830. Thats on Mona vale road, just past Forest Way, pull over on the dirt shoulder on Mona Vale road. Then back roads to Hornsby, meet up with the south and east enders, head to Hornsby Medical Centre for an arse transplant, then onto Berowra to meet the rest, fuel up, take some cool picks and head off. (Not forgetting ofcourse anyone who needs to stop and have their valves massaged in swans milk or whatever they do ;)

Anyone else who is coming from the northside feel free to meet up at Bunnings. Should be a great day

Woah - made it home.

Big thanks to Stevo and Gaz from the Supermoto club for picking up my flat tyre'd smoker. And for finding a spare tube for me on a Sunday afternoon!

It was a balls out ride to get home before dark (the KTM has issues with lighting). Made it just as the street lights came on.

Gonzo
20-06-2010, 04:46 PM
What a good run. Not great (for me), but good.

13 riders at the RV.
Sedate riding for a bit thanks to the boys in blue. Then some balls out action.

Tobey thought he was at the dirt track still with his sideways action, then I ripped a valve out with my whopping 300cc engine.

Stevo (NSW SM club prez) picked me up and drove me back to the lunch spot.
The rest of the boys buggered off for some more riding while Stevo, Gaz and I went to get another tube.
KTM has electrical 'issues' so I rode like the wind to get home before dark.

Good day lads. Let's do it again sometime (Mac Pass is next).

Was supposed to have some builders etc show up and finish the renovations the week prior, No one showed so I had to work over the weekend with another builder to get the job finished. Missus is due in 4.0 weeks and the room is only now being gyprocked.

Bike is ready to go, leave pass approved but priorities take precedence.

Will be keen for a ride pretty much any time from now on till the due date. Can't go too far from home for obvious reasons but a couple of hot laps of the old road etc are perfect.
