What date is this on guys? The Berg is restless......
8th/9th May, its going to be massive but the motards will be ultra competitive with the bikes we are classed with in formulas 3 and 5.

SHIT!!!! The weekend of my daughter's birthday. Looks like I'm out.
Hmm looks like singles can ride formula 5 if we get some "treaded street tyres".

Tom contact BEARS direct, Bridgestone and street tyres only are for guys competing for championship points and members of the BEARS club.
I'd have thought that the street tyres would be to keep the class even. It says pretty clearly in the formula C&D grade riders only on treaded street tyres. The KTM would go pretty well on Alpha10s or similar anyway.

Lee, you can borrow my modified stock clamps if you want. Should be the same as your current set up but straight ;)

Hey there guy's,
I have entered for this too now on the 560 SMR i just bought which won't arrive till next Friday.
Has anyone found out for sure yet if we need to run the treaded street tyres for the formula 5 class cause if so it is something else i will need to get sorted in real short time frame before heading to Warwick for the coaching day on the Wednesday before the race meeting?
yes u need to run street tyres for formula 5, slicks for formula 3

I thought it was only if you were competing for championship points?
not from what they said on the bears site. i believe u have to use bridgy's to get champ points

Ok I got offered by the club captain/pres to race with them at round one and I brought up the treaded tyres and he said it didn't matter unless you were doing all the rounds and and wanted to race for points.
I'd call them to be sure.
i dont really care what class i am in anyway

Anyone seen an entry list for this yet ?? I wonder what other bikes we'll be racing with ???
Entry list is up - http://www.motorcyclesportsmen.com.au/FileLibrary/all_classes.PDF
Your name is conspicuously absent Lee.
Should be a lot of fun, I think the 748 Ducatis should be the main competition, we can lap at a similar pace or faster than a 916 so I think we should be in with a chance... All Aprilia podium in F3? ;)
hell yeah! pretty pumped about this, jov will we be running with f1/2? i bloody hope we are running with the big bikes, i would guess dave fuller would be the man to beat on the 1098? carvin up the roadies is gonna be AWESOME

not sure of the format depends on total entries of the meeting and hasn't been decided yet

Kate got back to me and said she'd just missed adding me to the list, so I'm defintely in.
HOORAAYYY!!! :roost:
Sooo looking forward to it, lots of new things to try with my riding to see if I can get out of this rutt I seem to have lodged myself into. Thanks to the advice of some top riders, I now have the strategies to step up to the next level... Things like 'riding faster' and 'not being such a slow gumby' should all do wonders for me when applied correctly. :D
Paul any chance you could please bring your spare triples in case I need to borrow them ??

Hey Tom,
What tyres did you end up going with and where do you reckon a goood place to get some is?
My new KTM arrived yesterday and i have had a quick blast around in my old man's paddock today. Feel's awesome, bit more grunt than my old WR had. It has 14/46 gearing on it at the moment. How does that sound for Morgan Park? Be ok or should i get some other sprockets you reckon to muck around with out at the track?
tom got his threw john newton who is better known as the bridgestone tyre man, jns race products
maybe grab a 43, 42 or 41 for the rear

I went with BT090's through John Newton. Bridgestone do special pricing for the BEARs rounds. Not sure on gearing because mine is a 6 speed with tall gearing. My final drive for Morgan Park is 15/52. 14/46 should be ok for a 5 speed which I think they are.
Final Instructions are up, Formulas 3,4 & 5 are together.
bit of a bugger we arent running with the superbikes but 30 on the grid should make for some awesome starts
Woohoo, it's going to be a bit of a laugh with that many motards and plastic bikes on the grid! I can almost hear the complaints already ;)

Hoping Sunday for flaggy Trev. can you boys tell me where you reckon it will happen so I can get that point and help you up, pat you down and point you in the right direction ?
Turn 4 is guaranteed to see some tupperware head bush whilst trying to use motards as breaking markers. Turn 6 would be good too, and where I'll crash if I'm going to.

hahaha paul, turn 4 was def where the action was for you!!
I had an interesting weekend. two 3rds, two 2nds and a 5th. Somehow got 3rd in formula 5 for the weekend. Was running Bridgestone BT090s for the weekend which was a huge learning curve over the Michelin Slicks I usually use.
Had a crash at turn 10 on the last lap in race 1 while in 2nd but got back on and manged 3rd (lost all of 15 seconds for crashing). Narrowly avoided using Daws and his bike as a jump in race 2 - ended up 3rd because I ran off to avoid the carnage.
Went back to Brisbane Saturday night for Nitro Circus Live which was awesome by the way.
Races 3 and 4 I got two solid 2nds. Not much to report as I was playing it a bit safe.
Race 5 I had a lowside in turn 10 really really fast. Went in in fifth gear and had it wide open at the apex. Bike slid 40-50m down the straight in front of me and I tucked into a little ball hoping no one would collect me (I was still on the track). Got back to the bike and restarted.
Had a few bike problems as well for the weekend as it's pumping oil between the gearbox and engine. Had to pull 200ml out of the engine after each race and put it back in the gearbox. I know what I have to fix as it's done this before. Overall had a great time. Thanks to the Motorcycle Sportsmen and all the Officials and marshalls. Thanks to the BEARS guys for coming and some great racing. Big thanks also go to my sponsors TEREX and Redcliffe Mowers.
PS. Video footage of the last two races (including crash) to follow.
Pretty sweet results. SXV's take out 1, 2, 3 in F3 :D
Adam was killing it, was going to run up in F1 on the 550, qualified in pole (!!) before graciously stepping down to F3 to appease some unhappy punters in F1.
I had a good weekend by my standards. Qualified in 2nd, and holeshotted all 5 races for the weekend. I led quite a few laps, but not the ones that counted. :lol2: I definitely got out experienced by the seasoned John Newton. I got beaten fair and square in the first race, with John pulling a couple of seconds ahead. The 2nd race saw 4 passes between us, awesome dicing, before l pulled a gap. A blunder in lap traffic saw John take 2nd from me last corner, last lap.
Race 3 saw me pull my finger out, and I gapped John comfortably to finish in 2nd, unfortunately my rear was on the way out by now, and lap times were slowly dropping. Race 4 saw more passes, a few under and over moves in the early laps before I got away enough to hold it to the finish line. Race 5.... urghhh!!! I fended John off early in the piece, getting straight back under him when he passed me and couldn't hold his line. I led all 6 laps, with Adam now in 2nd, until Adam tried to outbrake me into 4, overshooting the corner and running us both wide, allowing John to move from 3rd to 1st, netting 2nd overall for the weekend.
Heaps of fun though, lots of dicing for the minor placings which is always good.
I didnt catch any of it, but apparently the 748 and tricked out Bimotor behind us were getting the wheels ridden off them, which is promising for anyone that questions whether motards can hold their own on a mid-sized RR circuit.
Thankyou to Adam, for the lend of his bike for the weekend. Very nicely setup, dropped my PB by half a second having not road raced for 18 months.... and it is for sale :D

I had a absolute roller coaster of a weekend. Its such a different deal when there are road race bikes out in the race with us.
First Qual was uneventful for me, Cant remember the place, but it was well inside the top 10 somewhere. I cant seem to get near the laptimes I was doing at the end of last year, but I feel like I'm riding harder than ever!! Very Frustating. I'm going to rebuild the front end of the bike as the bent triples and worn steering head bearings probably arent helping.
Second Qualifying I went out behind a guy on a 955 triumph that was holding me up from getting a clean lap. So second time round I got on his back wheel into turn 2 to make a pass next corner but he must have gone in too hot and hit the brakes mid corner. I locked up the front to avoid him and went down pretty hard. Snapped the bars clean in half!! The first lap was good enough for 9th spot on the grid though.
Thanks to the help and spares of Adam, Steve, Gordy and Paul we managed to get my bike back together in time for the first race.
First race me and Gordy got held up by a group of three bikes that were running a couple of secs a lap slower but were in a tight group so they were hard to get by. Finished 8th on track.
Second race I got a blinder of a start and got in front of the 3 guys that held us up last race mananged to hold a charging VDB off for the race and finished 5th.
The format was progressive grids so I was looking forwards to starting from 5th spot directly behind Adam for the 3rd race.
Completely blew the start and got swamped of the line. The guy on the BImoto Steve mentioned came across and hit my front wheel into turn 1  Very rude!! Spent the rest of my race trying to get a rythm up but couldnt with the traffic. Finished 9th on track.
4th race saw me get a reasonable start but couldnt put down any decent laptimes to stay with the front group. A charging Jovian on Pauls Ape applied a bit of pressure from behind that saw me blow it on the final lap and lose the spot. Finished 10th on track.
The final race was a doosy!! I stalled on the start line, then had to get a push start from the flag mashal to get me going. Got going dead last about half a lap down. Had the best ride though trying to catch up and carving my way through 8 or 9 guys. Nothing like racing when you dont have to worry about defending a line ;)
Thanks again to Sporties and bears for a great weekend and the guys for the assistance and great company!

sounds like a great weekends racing guys! Look forward to seeing some pics.....
Sounds like Paul will have a interesting race report..................
awesome weekend, fixed a couple of silly bike issues and then went reasonably well over the weekend, best bit of all was qualifying on pole in Formula 1 ahead of dave fuller on the 1098r bayliss rep, but the race secretary politely asked if i would go back to F3 to avoid upsetting some sponsors, and being the nice bloke i am i obliged.
4 wins in bears formula 3 was still pretty cool sorry to steve for costing him 2nd!! a 1-2 for cox bikes wouldve been awesome!
best bit of the weekend, done in first qualifying with a cold track, about a second off what i know i should do, which was probably lucky because that would really have upset them

Awesome reports boys. Looking forward to hearing Daws' as well.
Adam you seriously have to come down here and race the AFXC at Winton with me and Angus on June 5th and 6th!
would love to come markee, but between work and 4 month old bub it gets a bit difficult. the missus has got some family down there so hopefully i will make at least one interstate trip this year
Nice one Adam.
And good work to all the guys out there too, yeah I cant wait for pauls report as well.
Cheers brian
There was some great racing this weekend, unfortunately I wasn't really in any of it. Missed QP1 and got held up in QP2 so posted a terrible time.
My clutch cable failed on the startline in R1 and Jovian narrowly avoided running into me... possibly one of the scariest moments ever.
Race 2 had to start from 24th due to progressive grid and was looking forward to putting some passing manoeuvres in to try and catch up with the front pack. Unfortunately I tried to put in one too many passes too earlt and t-boned one of the BEARS guys in T4, I had made up quite a few places by this point and was feeling a bit confident... perhaps too confident. I think I went over the handlebars and somehow at least 8 bikes managed to avoid me. I handed out apologies after the race and all was [mostly] forgiven ;)
I also took my newest addition out to play, a CBR250RR and it was a bit of fun, I was surprised at how quickly I got used to reving the engine between 16 & 20K RPM, they really don't do anything outside of that range! I had one highside and save in QP1 when the treaded tyres didn't quite want to do what I wanted them to do. Not sure of the finishing order but I wasn't challenging for the win, race 2 was better than race 1. Still it was a lot of fun and it's cheap!
Then in the early hours of Sunday morning I managed to get food poisoning or some other form of lurgy which manifested itself in the form of various barely controlled bodily excreta. No racing on Sunday for me :(
Jovian Rode my bike on Sunday due to some mechanical issues with the TM. Under strict instructions from me "not to kill it" (I must have been delirious, what was I thinking ;) ) He posted his fastest times and looked very confident in the 2 races I saw by the time I managed to get my diseased ass out of bed.
Thanks to all that helped me out on Sunday as I was in no state to do anything other than sleep. Well done to Adam and Steve, there is no way I could have kept up with that pace up the front. Thanks also to the sporties and the BEARS guys, it was a great meeting and I look forward to the next one.

I had a ball Trev. Obviously not as fast as the 3 Aprilia's out front, but not too far off. Think I got 6th or 7th in all the races (or thereabouts). Kept getting held up by Ducatis going slow through the corners but still had a ball. Ended up winning period 5 up to 500 on the 400Yamaha and got my time down to 1:14.9 which I am really stoked with as it's faster that the guy that won the Australian Title last year. A bit pissed off that Adam didn't get to ride formula 1 and 2. Felt like he was being penalised for being too fast. I thought that was what racing was all about.
Straights are for fast bikes, corners are for fast riders
