Hey Guys,

I'm thinking that we should try and organise a dirt practice somewhere. After last weekend I just want to be on the bike as much as I can. And I'm sure we could all use some dirt practice.....

Is the sporties track a possibility at all or is it too hard to organise?? If not that maybe a suitable MX track somewhere ???

Any ideas ??

IMO, Dirt Track at Nth Brisbane is good practice. It's flat and has pretty easy corners. Coming from a dirt gumby... I think it's best to focus on riding then move on to jumps and stuff when you get a bit more confidence.

Dirt Track on the Ape was the best thing I ever did for my dirt skills. Admittedly it's a bit sketchy and it feels like you are going to crash [constantly] but you will learn lots.... including but not limited to the fact that the Aprilia is the worst proposition for a dirt bike!

Also, there are usually a few of us with dirt-bikes out there so it's normally possible to borrow a bike for a session if it's getting a bit tough on the Ape.

Not a bad idea Lee.

At present, I'm down for Lakeside on 11/4 and dirt track on 18/4

Something this weekend would be good though.

Yeh dirt track for the 18/4 sounds good to me.

Is lakeside every fortnight or do the dates change because I work every second weekend and the weekend of the 11th is my work weekend :-(

Thanks Devo.

Yep every single meeting is on my work weekends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess there will need to be a couple of sickys taken.

Has anyone raced at these meets? How much is entry? Do they accept MA licence or do you have to get the AASA one?

I doubt your bike will pass the noise restrictions, my YZ didn't.

We don't race there. The racing is for the scoots and pocket bikes. We just slot in as if we were scheduled and it's track time.

Must haves are:
a QUIET bike, standard exhaust with pea shooter or dbdawg.
no metal touching down (pegs, bar ends, axles)
AASA licence (I think 20$ for day licence, 60$ for yearly??)
Track day is cheap but I don't remember.

$50 for the track fee plus the $20 for day licence at lakeside.
I might as well go up there for a blat with ya devo.
I'll Get that lakeside thread happening again.

Re Dirt practice , I want to hire out northgate so i can play with my bike
and get the damn thing sorted out before i splatter myself everywhere.
I'll have to make a ph. call and see what the go is and see how many
of us lot we could get together.I think Jovian mentioned this last year?

On another note, I reckon the VMX track there would be awsome practice too.
The jumps aren't real big and pretty well natural terrain.
Didn't someone mention they would let us tards out there last year also ?
We certainly wouldn't dig the track up,thats for sure.

Yeh Ash I am sure it wouldn't with the Yoshi on but I have the standard pipe which I just repacked and have added some corse steel wool in between the 2 spark arestors. I haven't tried it yet but it should do the trick...

I tried the standard pipe and it was still about 4db over but maybe with the steel wool it might get low enough. Did you have to change your jetting much to work with the reduced flow through the pipe.

hey ash,

could you recommend a mx track/park for some practice relatively close to brissy? i wanted to try and get out when it was quiet during the week if there is somewhere open?

also where might you suggest over the weekend as joe and i were going to head out :)

I am heading out to Ripley (45-50 from brisbane) this saturday and monday for a ride if you want to come out. i might also be tempted to head to warwick for a ride on sunday if anyone else is keen.

Tivoli at ipswich usually opens wednesday's and it is relitivly quiet except for a few pros. You can also go to Ripley midweek if you ring and leave a message a day before and let them know you will be there.

I haven't tried it yet but will probably be rich as shyt but will just deal with it for a track day.

Adam, Fort Lytton has opened up again down near the Port of Brisbane and they run Wed arvo, Fri arvo and all weekend. I am thinking of heading down there this arvo before night shift so will report back on how it is.

Their web site also says it is open all easter too which is a great!

matt, im off to pick up my kx and i might head straight out there for a blat but i think i'll be pushing it to get there for before 4.

thats awesome they are open all weekend, is the crew up for a ride early morning maybe go for lunch after?

i also see they have bookings through the week, i doubt it will be too expensive wondered whether anyone would be keen on booking a midweek excursion for Motards?

id ring up and enquire and take the aprilia and the kx out for a day if anyone else was keen?

Don't take your VDB out there and smash it to bits

Just ride the KX and then make it up on the day when we get some slicks-on-dirt racing. :D

I'm down for the weekend. Let's sort it out, who's free. All I want to do is go to the beach, and go for a ride. Don't care what order. Jesus and chocolate bunnies are right down on my list.

Missed out on the ride this afternoon as I checked with the track owner and it was too wet today :-(

I have a few things on this weekend but probably could get down there sat morning if anyone else is keen.

Will just have to watch the weather as the owner said the dirt has quite a high clay content so holds a lot of water and can be unrideable.

Adam I recon you should save the VDB for the vintage mx at Northgate if that is a goer.

I might be keen for a midweek ride however it will have to be in the afternoon and i'll need plenty of notice. If it is a MA registered track i think you will need to have and official/coach & a first aid officer present to run practice sessions.
