It's up on the Sporties website so I figured it was time for a thread about it here.

The Queensland Supermoto Championships will be held at Carnell Raceway, Stanthorpe on 13th & 14th March.

Supplementary Regs have been approved and entry forms will be available soon.

For those who don't know, Carnell Raceway is currently the only place in the East where you can race PROPER Supermoto. Track dates are very limited due to restrictions so Sporties only get 2 days access per year, so lets ensure that everyone gets their entry in and we and make the most of our weekend in Stanthorpe.

Google Maps link to the track here (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=stanthorpe&sll=-28.760173,151.864614&sspn=0.026184,0.030169&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Stanthorpe+Queensland,+Australia&ll=-28.684493,151.938&spn=0.003393,0.003771&t=h&z=18). Track direction is clockwise and there are 2 dirt sections. In the past we have used both dirt sections but this year there has been some discussion of running 2 dirt sections on the Saturday then only the first one on the Sunday to try and even it up a bit for the tarmac specialists.

Matt57

Hope we get some good fields for this weekend it should be good!

I wouldn't mind running only one dirt section on Sunday but looking at the map of the track would it be better to run the second section? If you use the first section it only give one extra corner and leaves another long straight on the run down to the last corner.

Only my two cents worth but can't wait regardless!! :-)

TG
17-02-2010, 04:44 PM
The second dirt section got a bit rutted out last year and is a little tight. Plus the first one has a big (for us) tabletop which everyone loves. We ran it bitumen only as a practice last year and it was awesome.

I'm also really looking forward to it whatever the configuration.

On ya Mark! Are you going to do any other rounds as well?

I raced a national round in MT bikes in Mackay. Took us just over 30 hrs to get there and I did it in 27hrs home (had an exam on Tuesday morning) I'd never do it again (with no break that is)

Motorcycle Sportsman of Queensland is proud to announce The Loose Kid Industries 2010 Queensland Supermoto Championships. The event consists of 2 rounds held at Stanthorpe’s Carnell Raceway over the March 13th & 14th weekend.

At the 2009 Australian Titles, QLD riders dominated results and attendance with Linden Magee & Ross Taylor finishing in the top 3 in the Open CC & 450CC classes while Beau Laing took home the 250CC Crown. Over many years Queensland has cemented its place as the premier state for Supermoto in Australia and the 2010 QLD titles will display some of the sports best talent.

The competition will be fierce as all the titles will be up for grabs. Classes for the event will be S1 (over 450CC/4), S2 (450CC/4), S3(250CC/4), Veterans and for the first time a non competitive, have a go class for Novices and street riders. Entries from all along the East Coast are expected with riders travelling from as far as Townsville and Sydney for a chance to compete in the most spectacular motorcycle sport of them all, Supermoto.

Entries Available via Motorcycle Sportsman of QLD on either http://www.motorcyclesportsmen.com.au/ Phone: 07 3262 6677 or 0431 989 540.

As mentioned before, there is a big selection of accommodation in Stanthorpe but it is a busy town for tourists so the available options tend to book out quickly.

Last year some of us stayed in the Boulevard Motel 4681 1777, it's close to the track and perfectly reasonable.

24-02-2010, 03:33 PM
Trev, if you are planning on heavier springs, I would leave them as they are for Stanthorpe, there's not much in the way of heavy braking and a softer set-up will pay dividends in the dirt.

Lee don't think, just race! Seems to work for Daws! LOL

Are you implying that I turn my brain off when the red light goes out? That's a half truth! Sometimes it's already switched off on the drive out to the track ;)

Don't worry Lee, you'll do fine, you might fall over but you won't be the only one doing it. Falling over on dirt is much less embarrassing than flipping a whoolie at MP or failing to do a burnout ;)

Edit - Lee, you deleted your post, I though it was funny! but last year at Stanthorpe I only crashed a few times it was in my first ever race the previous year that I crashed 6 (or 8?) times!

i wouldn;t stress to much about tyres, grooves barely make a difference. if u are really keen to get a good tyre superbike wets are the go

i just wanted to congratulate u all on getting behind the event, its shaping up to be awesome. S2 & Vets has over 20 entries and is basically full!!! should be close to 60 entries, which i think might be more than nationals last year!

we have entries streching from as far townsville to melbourne which is pretty cool for a QLD titles. S3 is a little slim but i think that class will really build in the next few years especially up north. Anyone with an S3 bike would be in with a decent chance of taking home a trophy.

S1 looks very competitive as well.

SM93
11-03-2010, 09:52 AM
the situation is lots of the vets are riding in s2 & s1 so those classes need a gap, cause the old blokes need a rest. doing the 2 classes back to back means when u rest u get a longer break between races than any other rider doing a vets and s class. Stanthorpe is a very easy track to get in and out of the pits as well. starters and pit people will be made aware of the riders doing back to back. Also, if these riders need a hand i am sure a few will put their hand up to get the bikes on the grid.

Best thing to do is using your manners make the Clerk of Course aware of your situation

if someone has a solution let me know

Fuck yeah :D How good was the weekend. Well here's my report.

Mark was up on Friday and gave me a quick hand to do a last couple of things on the old kato, which hasn't seen motard (or bitumen) racing duty since who knows when. Paul arrived in due course, and thanks to both of them for getting my girl and I down to Stanthorpe, sans drivers licences, on saturday morning.

We set up with the usual crew and headed out for qualifying. It was a cold drizzly sort of weekend, but the surface was very grippy even when damp, so the slicks worked great. Nice to be riding a full motard track again with dirt. :D

I was worried I would take a while to get used to the Clake I'd fitted and only ridden with doing dirt track, but it was incredibly natural to use on the motard and certainly helped me over the weekend. I was cautious for the first corner, and then just forgot about it for the rest of the weekend.

Racing came around, and I was happy to start with. The dirt tracking had paid dividends in the dirt, and my EXC suspension was only letting me down a little on the very few bitumen corners there were. But I was getting a bit bummed as I slowed down as the day went on. Just not enough fuel in my tank I think. I got some points on the board though, only dropping a few with a minor lay down in the dirt.

A t-bone and a beer seemed to do wonders for me on Saturday night, and I was super-pumped the next morning. I warmed into things with a pb in warmup, then proceeded to drop another 2 seconds by race 2, and I managed to keep it up for the rest of the day. I got down to a 54.5 from a 57.5 qualifying, in stark contrast to Angus R's 50.xx's but still not fucking about for how I usually go. :) No crashes, won the battles I'd been losing the day before, and generally pulled my finger out. Was lots of fun as Paul started to get up to pace on the dirt, so he was hauling past me down the straight for the first half of a couple the races. That's about the only time I missed the Aprilia, haha.

Which brings me to the kato, how is this for a blast from the past... VSMR.net leathers and my old faithful 525. It was retired, and had most things sold off it. Standard motor, standard pipe, standard EXC suspension. Wheels, brakes, and 2nd hand slicks (thanks Joe!). There's a lot to be said for doing things properly, but you can still go alright on a pig. :D

The pro photos are still coming, but here's some my girl took, cos every race thread needs some piccies.

Thanks to everyone for getting it organised and keeping it running. Still grinning this morning. Oh, and in the end I came away with 6th overall in S1, and top C grader in S1. Happy as. :D I'll let everyone else tell their little bits.

Okay, well it seemed like everyone had a really good time and the turn out was great! heaps of old and new faces.

As far as the racing goes i struggling alot on the 660 in the dirt for its first time out. I couldn't come to grips with it at all and was embrassing slow especially on Sunday. Saturday Tom and I had some good races and coming into sunday i was equal 9th overall. But i ended up going out till a late hour on satday night and was a little dusty on sunday. Basically I just need lots of dirt practice on the 660, remarkable i didn;t crash all weekend which ends my Stanthorpe curse.

The TM600 did get crashed though by my mechanic who ended up with a broken collarbone. Gez had a rough weekend to with a big crash that left her pretty second hand.

Overall i was just stoked to be there and see everyone enjoying themselves, thanks for the guys that made the big trips!!

Till next year!!!

Thanks to all concerned. Great Racing, Great Flaggies :p, 2 DNF's put me well out but a 3rd and a 4th behind Phil Lovett and a flying Kym Gross who was sensational in the dirt I aint complaining. Need to start doing some dirt riding.

Saturday night Loud rum drinking Vets upsetting other motel users till 2 was interesting. Speaking of which, making off with Old67's bike after the table top and watching the little poppa smurf chasing it down the track was a classic.:D:D:D.

Was a bit disappointed the Gestapo came out and did some fuel checks etc when everything we need to do with SuperMoto at the moment needs to be positive. Understand there are rules but a bit of a heads up (warning) to the Guns at the pointy end end may have softened the blow. Got a feeling we will hear more on this 1 and think the QLDer's I spoke to will be fine !

Lets keep the Ball rolling guys!

Just looking at the results on MyLaps... geez you guys did a lot of races!!
interesting too, looking at the lap times, In some cases guys with faster times finishing further down the field than guys with lap times considerably slower. Must have been bedlam out there :D

Well done to all, sounds like an amazing weekend. I'm still kicking myself it worked out I couldn't go I'll be there for sure next time!

Yeah Lee. I was really impressed by the guys doing both S1/S2 and Vets. I was recovering alright with a bit of extra time between races. Good riding too by Devo on the stocker 525. That dirt track seems to be working well for you.

I wasn't feeling it on Saturday. Something just wasn't right (Me I think) and I had a couple bike problems. Still pedaled around at a reasonable pace and finished every race.

Sunday saw an early swap to wets. I was heaps faster right out of the box. I don't think it was down to the tyres but just having the chance to sit down and evaluate my riding overnight. Some advice from some other riders helped me sort my clutch slip issue by preloading it up a bit more. I was very happy with my progression and got faster every session. Race 3 saw a stall and drop in the dirt followed 2 turns later with a lowside right in front of the crowd :D Also out dragged Daws on the 550 from the last turn to the finish line when he slacked off a bit.

Loving the power of the S1 bike.

That was an amazing weekend , thumbs up to the organisers , committee & the volunteers , you all did a fantastic job .
Was great to finally meet you blokes , you are what racing is all about .
Thanks Gordon for letting me pit with you , and your advice & tyre groover was very much appreciated.
I had a pretty ordinary weekend as far as racing goes , couldnt get my head around the dirt & Jump , struggled with traction big time , put some grooves in my slicks on Sunday morning & that made a huge difference ( thanks Mark ) , had a lay down in the second race & made me walk funny & then the rain came , so called it a day .
To stand on the sidelines & watch the racing was incredible , you blokes were flying , got to give it to you fellas , riding in 2 classes with little to no breaks between races shows how much determination you have , it was an experience I wont forget , gives me something to strive for .

Ok here's my report.

Awesome, awesome, awesome weekend!
A big, big thank you must go out to Gary Joel aka Gaz on here for getting my bike to the track and back from Sydney. (Fergusons Transport from Melb to Syd) Mate without your help I wasn't racing.
To Jovian, Devo and Paul for carting me around qld and giving me somewhere to stay. Cheers Boys. :D
Also to Gordon for the use of his quick shade and tyre groover and to everyone else who came up and said hello or helped in some way or other, it's greatly appreciated when you come from a long way away.

To the weekends racing. Arriving Saturday morning I was preparing for no practice and straight into qualifying. Very, very hard to put down a good qualifying time on a new track you’ve only seen in pictures. Alas I did qualify for S2 in 19th place with a time of 62.145 secs and Vets in 15th with a time of 60.590. We got 10 mins for each class and I did my best but struggled hard with grip on slicks in a very sandy, dry and dusty dirt section.
After a few races in each class I went for my front wet to give more confidence, which it did and my lap times started to come down and my finishing places went up! I also cuts some grooves into the rear slick which also helped with more drive outta the 2 dirt sections. By the end of Saturday my speed had picked up and I was down to a best lap of 58.198

Sunday morning S2 race 1 riding around feeling fresh from a good meal and early night to DNF due to running out of fuel DOH! And of course it was at the opposite end of the track too!
Got into the 57’s in the Vets and was havin a blast. The rain came and lunch was called early and it was declared a wet meet so everyone who wanted to fit wets had some extra time. Typically after fitting my rear wet it dried up but I only had a few more races to go so I thought stuff it and just rode on them anyway. It did shower a few more times which was great in keeping the dust down anyway.
Putting on the rear wet also seemed to make me go faster because I was now down in the 56’s and did a best time of 56.184 on full wets on a dry track, go figure? I think this had to do with my confidence in the dirt and having more grip overall.

So overall for the weekend I got 6th in the Vets and 15th in S2.
I’m really happy with how the weekend went with no injuries, major crashes or bike troubles.
Had great battles with Gordon, Paul, Steve Coppock, Gaz in the Vets and a coming together and crashing the dirt with Tim Lusk from FNQ in S2.
Was great to catch up with all the guys from NSW who we rode with over in Perth last year and just as good if not better riding with the Qld crew from here.

It was one of the best run meets I’ve been too so far with heaps of info and the officials were easy to talk to and very helpful and friendly. I would have liked a practice session but they make the rules not me.
I do have a mountain of helmet can footage as I recorded every race, all 18 of them!!!!!!!
So stay tuned and I’ll upload them all slowly over the coming week and you can watch them on youtube.

Ah Gordy, he was the highlight of my weekend. :D:up::D:up::D:up::D:up::D:up::D:up:

Am still pumped 4 days latter, winning waterpolo for a semi's spot last night topped off a great weekend.

A big thank you to those who organised the meet from inception, the club volunteers, our sponsors and everyone who travelled long distances.

We arrived Friday arvo after a few stops on the way for a bit of wine and liquer tasting, to inspect the track for the first time. I was nervous about the dirt from my limited experience. Dinner that night introduced many new faces.

Saturday morning I was feeling nervous about the dirt. Riding on slicks was going to be so different to MTB or nobby tyres. The first two sessions I crashed as expected in the dirt, I learn't quickly though.

From then on I couldn't get enough of the dirt !!! I couldn't wait to get back out.

Saturday night introduced many more new faces, a hearty steak and early night followed for me.

Sunday morning brought a slight drizzle with a forecast of a slight chance of showers. I was pumped to focus on my lines in the dirt and build speed. I loved the first dirt to bitumen section, loosing the rear and then up comes the front wheel to then bang its bars, amazing. No crashes on this day (but was expecting them) and was blown away with my times when I checked at presentation time.

The Yamaha bike and gennies performed brilliantly, the revised gearing worked a treat and the collins leathers were so much cooler.

I am keen as now. After Morgan Park in 10 days, I plan a heap of dirt practice prior to a big month in June with MP, Townsville and Stanthorpe. Have planned a race schedule for the year ahead, am tad addicted now.

Hope every who travelled long distances arrived home safely.

I get the feeling the sport is much stronger and unified now.

See you at the track again soon.

Well I had a bit of a shit weekend racing, but was still good to ride supermoto. Was good to see everyone again though, had been a while.

New 450 went pretty good. Hadn't had it in the dirt before but it was a lot better than the old 550!
Qual bad and ended up in 10th. Finished 4th in the first race so that was OK, 2nd and 3rd races not so good. 3rd race crashed and made it back from last to 11th then fourth race crashed when in 4th and went to last to 13th. My wirst was sore as after that last race Sat, think I fell on it funny and pretty sure it is broken now so better get xray tomorrow.

Couldn't race sun because of wrist.

Still was a hell good meet, everyone who organised it did good. Pitty it was the whole championship in one weekend. Seen a lot of people lie down over the weekend, most I've ever seen.

Oh yeah and speeding ticket on way home, cops were cool though.

What a great weekend, it was great to see so many motards make the trip to Stanthorpe, especially the people like Mark, Julian, Ross et all who had travelled such big distances to race at the Qld Supermoto Championships.

My championship campaign didn't get off to a great start as I broke my right big toe in qualifying saving a highside. Following Gordon's advice that ignorance was bliss, I kept my boot on and snacked on Neurofen! It was a bit black and swollen at the end of the day but didn't give me too much trouble in the races unless I aggravated it by kicking tyres... which I did a few times.

Running 2 classes was a bit of an experience, the 20 minutes between S1 and the Vets class seemed to pass pretty quickly, although not as quickly as the 10 minutes between the Vets and S1 class! It felt like I'd just put my warmers on then I had to take them off.

I had a great time out on track, a couple of crashes, and some great battles. My best finish was 5th in the Vets class but at one stage I was running 2nd and tried to put a move on off road legend Phil Lovett in the dirt!! My dirt prowess improved immensely over the weekend and I surprised myself by occasionally finishing ahead of riders who are much more capable in the dirt. Battling with Steve Coppock in a few races was great fun, we had some close hard racing. Gordon and Devo (when I could catch him) were, as always great to race with and it was awesome to finally race with Markee, I had my biggest crash of the weekend when I highsided my brains out in the penultimate vets race while trying to re-pass him in the first dirt section... even by my standards as an experienced crasher it felt pretty fucking epic!

I finished 8th in S1 which I was pretty happy with, considering my skill level it seemed like the right result. I'm not so happy with my 15th place in the Vets class, 2 DNFs and a single point race didn't help my cause. I feel I could have finished inside the top 10 but 3 crashes, one that has left me with a cracking haematoma on my side, the aforementioned highside and a crash though fatigue in the last race really stuffed up my points. Next time I just have to stay on the bike! I was happy that my times dropped over the weekend, my qualifying times weren't great at just over 1 minute but I managed to get down to a best of 55.901 although 56's were a more accurate picture of my times.

Once again, it was a great weekend, there was a very positive atmosphere and hopefully we can keep the ball rolling and have some more events this year. Thanks to Jovian and the Sporties crew for organising the event, the flaggies who stood out in the heat, dust, cold, rain and wind, Loosekid Industries for sponsoring the event and all of the people who turned up and raced.

*edit* Jacko - You snuck that one up the inside while I was composing my post. Support the people who support your sport!
