Sorry Timo, I moved the topic to the 'interstate rides & events' forum but didn't leave a shadow topic in general. I've done that to this thread and removed the old one, so all good now

Follow up on the just completed ride day.....decent turn out especially for Adelaide, good variety...including 2 gnarly quad motard conversions, bergs, crfs ,a bunch of wrf's,a yz and some huskys :D .Couple of offs(1 quite bad).
Didnt set any lap records myself although i feel/believe i was getting quicker :D . All had fun and i reckon fun most will go back. That was the feeling of the day. :D

I just rang up Port Gawler off road park which owns the Kart track from the last ride day and apparently they can't get public liability insurance  They haven't got any plans to open up the kart track to bikes either  If they can't get insurance for the the MX tracks the lady said they might look at opening up the kart track again or even building another track for motards because bikes are more profitable for them compared to karts.

Muzzard
11-11-2006, 01:43 PM
You can carry your own insurance and shop it through a broker.
That way each individual only has to provide evidence of a current personal liability policy and your on the track, or just do it on indemnity forms and ride...

timo
12-11-2006, 05:58 PM
few guys been badly hurt(generally by other dickheads) and 1 at least killed so the fun police(read insur. co's.)were always going to get there way :( Chris from Coast Yam)has been doin some racin and riding down at MacPark -down Mt Gambier way'with some success(against 125GP bikes) :D

port gawler is my local track and i organised insurance for a group up to 20 to ride there which does cover the riders but as the track owners dont have any insuance the chain of event can still follow back to the owner ie rider falls off into barrier which can be to close to the track rider sues the ride group which in turn will still look at suing th owner as they still have liability over the barrier

i even looked at leaseing the Kart track but Land owners need to have public Liability insurance to do any form of business and these guys just cant get it at the moment. Basically we are screwed unless the owners can provied some insurance for themselves.

but the ideas there im looking at any possibilitys at the moment muzzards idea of leasing a warehouse seems the best idea still looking to find the right place

I'll do the same, if i come across anything suitable, I'll let you guys know.

An old kart track would be ideal.

Anyone have access to, or own a property? Maybe we could get a dozer and build something? A bit far fetched maybe, but you never know ;)

How small is the pocket-bike track at Pooraka? http://www.adelaidepocketbikes.com.au/track.htm

Another kart track at Bolivar: http://www.southernskc.asn.au/

and there's a nice looking one at the barossa: http://www.barossagokartclub.asn.au/track.htm

Seems like there's a few avenues that we can pursue. I'm up to my neck in uni work at the moment but I finish at the start of december so can make some enquiries then and hopefully we can tee something up for the new year  If enough of us show interest you'd hope they'd give us a go. Be interesting to know how many Radelaide mob visit this forum.
Any tips Muzz on the best way to go about negotiating with Kart clubs?

Wobbly
14-11-2006, 02:41 PM
The one on pt wakefield rd would probably be a good place to have a noisey around, as they just cater to the public and dont run a karting club...

Shamus70
14-11-2006, 02:41 PM
See what muzz says, I wonder if joining the club and helping with up-keep of the track would be a good idea? It'd be great to have a dirt section with a couple of jumps also!! 8)

It seems that most of these clubs would have invested a fair bit of their own time to get the tracks like they are at present.

Good luck with your exams.

tambi
14-11-2006, 02:52 PM
Cheers Shamus.
Neil, I always wondered about that Port Wakefield Rd track because it always looked abandoned, like you I think it would be the best option as its relatively close and like you said noise wouldn't be an issue.

Wobbly
14-11-2006, 03:04 PM
Best to approach the less cashed up tracks as they will be much more likely to be interested in business from a relatively 'fringe' group  From memory they had 2 tracks - one was a horse shoe shaped one (fairly dull) and another on the other side that looked a bit more interesting...

Shamus70
14-11-2006, 03:06 PM
Where is the Port Wakefield track?

I'll go out for a look. ASAP

Out of curiosity what bike do you ride Tambi?

Shamus mate, there's that Kart Mania at Gepps Cross but the one Neil is talking about is further north closer to Adelaide International raceway from memory, its on the eastern side of the road.
I'm currently in the process of converting an old Yz250 I got for real cheap which is getting there slowly. Muzz hooked me up with some rims which I'm going to lace up to the stock hubs, I got a 320mm disc made up and now I have to get the offset bracket made up. I'm waiting on a new pipe to come from the states, then after a rebuild I'll be good to go :D
This is what it looked like when i got it, its in pieces at the moment....

Nice,

Ive been trying to get my hands on a YZ250 for a while now, if you hear of another going cheap...

2-stroke motard, now that will be fun.

Best of luck, with the bike and exams

I'll go for a ride and see if I can find the place.

if there are enough Adelaide people we should meet up at a pub and have a discussion on how the best way of approaching kart clubs with a professional proposal
making a motard club would allow us cheaper public liability which would make it a sweeter deal to any track owner
some things worth thinking about.

Shamus70
14-11-2006, 05:20 PM
Not a bad idea,

Get a time and a place together and we'll see if at least a few of us can meet up.

I am researching a newly learned proposal that could also include an insurance cover so please be patient guys.
I will not forget you and as long as you stay in contact with each other to keep the social rides active and help build profile by meeting and riding public places like Rundle St areas on a Saturday night.
Just cruise, make noise, be noticed, nothing (too) illegal, park in a group and have a coffee or the likes, folks will ask you about the bikes etc when you return to them.
Go out to the popular sportbike areas and mug the suckers with an outside pass on the Sundays..
Others will soon join you.
When I have all I need to step further forward with the best approach
to the Club base I will appraise you all of it.

Muzzard
17-11-2006, 12:43 AM
I am expecting to be in Adelaide sometime around Christmas and would certainly be up for a pizza and a coffee to discuss in person what I know and where my thoughts are about the directions we have on option as a club base, as recreational riders and also as businessmen looking to gain entry to tracks.
I have previously been offered the demonstration ride of any of the bikes on offer from a helpful KTM Dealer in Adelaide who had a Ride Day last weekend that I was unable to attend.
Thankyou to that dealer, and that may avail me some greater flexability
for one of the days I am there.

What about a quick catchup this Saturday, just so a few of us can meet?

Either Rundle Street (The cafe end) or down at Glenelg (The pub next to the roundabout)?

I spoke to the guys out at Pt Gawler last weekend but they are still unsure of when they are going to be able to get bikes outs there again.
