I'm going on an adventure ride, if anyone happens to not be working and wants to get their bike dirty ;)

Will be about 3 hours of road riding, then another 2 or 3 on dirt roads. There might be a river or two that require crossing, but there are causeways which shouldn't make it too deep.
The way home will be similar.

Might camp, or stay at the pub. Either way I'll be eating + drinking there.

I'll be taking the XR400 motard on road tyres, carrying a few spares and tools, plus fuel for about a 300km range.

Some images of the area stolen from ADV rider:

The one with the two big KTM's?

That is looking down over the Wolgan Valley, from Sunnyside Corner.

might get more replys in the ADV forum

Nah, I'm on too many forums as it is!

Even if I end up going on my own, that'll be fine.

You're only 2 or 3 hours ride away from the Vic high country, plenty of awesome riding around there!

More for convenience though. Longest gap between fuel should be about 120km.

Have you got a map of the trip? What sort of speeds are you planing on for the highway riding?

Gonzo
04-01-2010, 12:32 PM
No map - if I plan it too much it won't be an adventure!

Only 1 point left on my license, so highway speed limits are usually respected.

Also, might change the dates to the 30/31st if Gaz gets his Duke rego'd and wants to come.

If it changed to the 30/31st I would be keen. Only issue being limited carrying space (fuel can) and high revving on the highway.

Were you going to go down? Through Royal nasho, or down hume? Royal nasho wont be an issue with continuous high speeds like the hume.

Rough ideas is to head west out of Sydney, up Bells line of road (with some sneaky back sections).

Onto dirt before Lithgow, bit of tar from the western side of Lithgow to Bathurst.

Dirt to Hill End. Dirt towards Orange, then back to Sydney.

As long as you have around 120km range, and can sit on at least 100kmh, you'd be fine.

Ah, seems like I got the wrong idea of where you were heading. Sounds like a great ride

Finally got my trailtech so will do some playing around with figures and let you know, dont see any issues though.

What an awesome weekend.

The GPS (Gonzo positioning system) worked its usual magic. I didn't bring a camera, so I hope HDND, Tobey and Sizzler post up their pics soon.

Sizzlers ride report.

It was a great ride. This is the first time I've been out in the dirt for a few years, so it took me some time to get back into it.

Gonzo took us down some roads that I have seen on Google Maps and wondered about, but this turned then into a bumpy reality.

The bridge at the bottom of my new favourite road- more on that later

http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/6108/bridgecrossing.jpg

I think everyone who goes past here takes this photo, so here is another

http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/6905/view1lw.jpg

The Royal Hotel was a good spot to spend the evening

http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/8239/royalk.jpg

There where a few river crossings, but only one with any water in it

http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/5408/rivercrossing1.jpg
http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/5646/rivercrossing2.jpg

Where did everyone go?

http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/8295/compilation.jpg

On the way back through the mountains, the weather closed in, but this only enhanced the scenery

http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/7321/view2.jpg
Although not everyone appreciated it

Back on the new favourite road, Gonzo shows that you don't need dirt tyres to ride in the dirt.

Tops ride, looking forward to the next one.
