Well, the Calder Park event has been run and won! The crowd was a bit down on hopes, although the large calder layout spread people around a fair bit, but the on-track entertainment was great. A bit of a delay in getting started because of some jump construction (and then track re-routing to avoid it once it became apparent it wasn't going to work :? ) but that didn't hurt things much as the crowd took a while to start filtering in anyway.
I've got some pics from the digi camera I'll stick up in a minute and will arrange to get Pete's snaps soon which should be awesome

It was great to see Motards in action last weekend at Calder. The VSMR.net display took a good position and allowed view of nearly all the track. It was dissapointing to experience hours of delay as details were sorted. Likewise the crowds were smaller than I'd expected, but not knowing what sort of advertising occured it is a mute point.
I actually thought the track layout was less technical than it could be. Is there some criteria for design and layout?
Given this experience, can we expect to see more races this year in Victoria?
Thanks all who took the time to chat and provide a meeting point. Great photo's!!

There are several people looking at the promotion of racing events in Victoria for the coming year that I know of. There is a poll running at the 'web site' forums regarding the Associations Act and VSMR. The outcome of the poll will dertemine basically whether or not there is sufficient interest to warrant the beaurocratic nightmare that is a race series without a fixed round of venues/access to a club track. It also affords since the collapse of the SRCA, a motard/SMR specific club base, that has M.A. affiliation.
Having said that, once Incorporated under the terms of the Act it puts us in a position to run meetings in our own right. We have already within our folds, people who have the expertise, and way for all, to as a team run a successful race series given the opportunity and funding...

Just received through the mail:

Hi,
I would like to confirm the running of the 2005 Victorian Supermotard Championship.
The 1st round has been confirmed and will be held on Saturday and Sunday 19 -20 March at Wodonga Kart track.
Saturday will incorporate a practice / coaching day with racing Sunday.
Round 2 is expected to be held at Bairnsdale on 9- 10 April.
Round 3 is expected to be held in the south west of the state with the track to be inspected in around a week or so. 30 April- 1 May
This series is designed quite simply to get back to basics and get time on the track, we acknowledge that Victoria hasn’t had the best year with Supermotard and there are reasons for it. Our aim is to set up facilities and venues where we can continue to ride without having to setup massive infrastructure to conduct events.
Bridgestone and McLeod Accessories have already confirmed their support with other major supporters announced soon.
We were looking at running an event in the heart of Albury but could not pull it off just yet, it is still on the cards and we should be able to do it later in the year, basically it was going to be a big deal and we needed the assistance of Albury Wodonga Motorcycle club, this is now available so stay in touch as we search for a date for this come off!
Mark Avard is putting on great events in NSW and we are looking to work in with him and his QLD counterpart to ensure dates don’t clash and riders get as much opportunity to ride as possible.
WEM, Kevin Williams is determined to run events in Victoria for the National Championship and we aim to work in him to make this possible and keep Supermotard racing going.
Broadford is becoming unlikely due to the track hire price and requirement that the track be cleaned for the following Monday’s hire.
Go Kart Tracks that we have approached recently, Rochester, Puckapunyal, Geelong and Westgate have expressed they would not be interested yet in conducting Supermotard events. Rochester will come on board in the future but is at the moment in the process of earthworks and requie to have that complete before they conduct any further activities.
Sth Morang is continuing to conduct Tuesday evening Supermotard practice with the next practice due 15 Feb at 5pm. Last Tuesday’s night was very well attended, and all levels of riders are welcome.
Preston MCC is holding the one round of the Victorian Road race Championships and is catering for Supermotards in a new Thunderclass to be held on 26 – 27 Feb at Broadford. This sounds like a great chance for SM riders to get your speed up and give those straight line speed guys a run for their money. Go to www.prestonmcc.com.au for more info.
Added to that is the chance to race at the B and C grade Champs rnd 1 13 Jun rnd 2 17 Jul rnd 3 28 Aug rnd 4 23 Oct.

Says confirmed so lets look at how we can support the events. Street ride Saturday night?... Obviously ride the practice day if a rec licence is on offer for those without National Open licences... Offers of labour for track prepping/dismantling of barriers/fencing, ground maintenance after the event?..Electronic promotion through web link?..

I can get up for the weekend, starting saturday morning most likely ... happy to do anything necessary in terms of on the day such as track organisation, sweeping, busking, feather dancing, etc. Will probably drive up in either the van or in the car with a trailer in tow ... happy to share the drive up too, can fit 3 with bikes easy enough if we hired a 3 bike trailer

Many hands make for light work, I'm in too of course. The night time will be a good ride in the Border towns, theres some quick street cars up there. Some good eateries, with laneways, so Ash will feel at home! Should start looking at accommodation now. Will ask Tania :D to see what she can find out for us and let you know.
The more riders that attend Saturdays practice day will only encourage a good spectator base for the racing on Sunday.

I'll be O/S for all of March, possibly well into April, so I'll miss Albury and maybe even Bairnsdale.
Don't know of many places you can really rip it up on a motard in Bairnsdale, but just ask me about bush:)
I used to organise state championship car rallies north of town.

Guys and gals, putting my hand up to help make the March event happen. Got lots of experience with comms (race control, point and emergency), done some flagging and marshalling.. all for car based events on the Island, Calder and Winton. Look forward to a Saturday fang either on the track or after, as the Berg is hunkering for a play.
well the pics look great, wish i was there to race
