Can the bike be ridden back down charlie?
charlie
18-10-2009, 10:45 PM
the bike could be ridden, the front wheel has been whacked a bit crooked. if someone can help me get it out i will ride it back.. it is in a pretty snotty bit of a hill. the ambulance guy showed me a map and if the track is followed the way we were headed it is just more down hill but leads back onto a better track. just got news from steve that his shoulder is broken right through so he is fucked.. so who's up for it tomorrow morning or afternoon??

Hey guys, thanks for all the support and help. Hopefully Charlie will be up soon and can arrange the pickup. I'm busy trying to get an ortho surgeons appointment, might need a pin.
I've managed to find where it is on google maps, you can't get a ute directly there due to some boulders at the entrance. but if charlie can ride it around to monda rd it should be easy from there..
We shouldn't have been on that trail...
thanks again for all the help, I don't know how i can make it up to you guys.

Just got on the net to find this. I'm home from work because of my back but I have a 4x4 and a trailer that we could use if there is any trouble. I'm in Kalorama so not to far.

Thanks Ash, charlie and mark are already on their way back. Thanks for all the support guys.
I think though I may have to give up bikes. They are by far my biggest passion in life, but I can't risk this sort of thing happening. Being a lefty, this is gonna make treating patients pretty difficult, already lost a fair few just from trying to reschedule. Can't afford it when I'm still trying to get established...

bugger. tough decision. maybe just steer clear of the dirt and track. Buy a bright orange z750 or something with a loud pipe and you should be right.
If you love em, you will come back

The shoulder looks nasty mate, i hope it heals quick, a pin should make it stronger.
I'd say most of us are in the same boat with missing work mate, best you can do is minimize the risk, EG: stay off the dirt with road tyres.
Kudos to Charlie and Mark retrieving the Husky, the nicest people ride bikes.

Shit luck Steve. :(
Don't give up riding. Your second biggest passion in life, being women I presume can give you just as much trouble, if not a whole lot more.
Stay off that nasty dirt stuff!
Good work Charlie & Mark, we need more guys like you in this community.

Thanks again guys, I honestly don't know how to repay you.
Don't worry Charlie, sooner or later I would've done this to myself, being the "leap without looking" type. Just glad you were there. Definitely no more hard dirt riding, may just stick to TT. Least your beast is running sweet so something good came out of the day.

just got back from the surgeon, going in tomorrow to get a pin put in, no plate, goes straight through. they make a small incision at the back of the clavicle.
The second xray he had showed that the bones over lapped by nearly 2cm and they are also about 2cm apart. Which would take over 12 weeks to join on their own, but be shorter and so on. Plus the bulge in the skin is literally the tip of the bone, its gone right through all the muscle and tissues. This way I'll be out thursday morning and be able to use my arm by monday. Just no load bearing work for 6 weeks, which i can live with.
Which means too I can treat patients straight away without worrying about legal issues. Though can't load bear it, can at least run/jog so don't loose too much fitness over the next month.
Only annoyed they can't use a blocker so i can watch the operation :(
I'm quite excited.

Ouchy Steve, I feel your pain! I did my collarbone in my last race but mine was nowhere near as complicated.
Get well soon and well done to everyone for helping out.

sux to hear man, that kind of stuff is always in the back of my mind when I'm out riding after a few big falls on the BMX when I was a bit younger. were you out on marked tracks at the time with no issues from the police and stuff afterwards? will your insurance/TAC cover most things?
Good luck with it all. When I finally find a job I'll be coming in to your practice to see you for a few things too.
