Can we make this sticky please...

Coming to you on July 2-5 2010 is the NQ Motorcycle Expo. We've been working hard on this over the last few months, and it is now a reality.

We will be hosting the Expo at the Brandon Aerodrome, 45mins south of Townsville. On show will be a Motorcycle Expo with trade displays from all over the country relating to motorcycles, from motorcycle manufacturers through to distributors, accessories, including 4wd's and trailers and everything in between.

Competitions will include the Burdekin Motorcycles Dyno Shootout, show and shine, and the piece de resistance - The King of the Cane SuperMoto event.

This will comprise the following classes:

S1
S2
S3
Womens
Veterans
QuadMoto

This is a stand alone MQ sanctioned event currently, as the inaugural event, and we hope to attract some huge names.

Our own Ross Taylor will design the track, based around the air strip itself, which is 45m wide, 2km long.

From 6PM the show will move to the Ayr Showgrounds, where live bands will entertain you in between demonstrations by one of the nations top Freestyle MX teams.

The kids haven't been forgotten either, with a kiddies corner to be set up at the showgrounds. Camping will be available at the showgrounds, and the Airstrip will be under security surveillance.

MQ has offered to block out that weekend for 2010 in NQ so no other events will clash.

This is also 1 week prior to the Townsville 400, and due to this timing, we are hoping to secure a few motorcycling stars to come for autographs (think along the lines of V8's, ex V8's, Ex World Champs and the like).

Visit www.nqbikeexpo.org.au (http://www.nqbikeexpo.org.au) for details. The site is currently under development, so keep an eye on it as more details such as sponsors are secured.

Exhibitors and racers will be looked after with priority accommodation for the 600 available beds, for those not wishing to camp.

We will be promoting this nationally.

Thanks for taking the time to read it :D

edit: stickied :D MM

We are also working on making the Dyno that will be onsite available on the Friday exclusively for use by racers to fine tune their bikes to suit the atmospheric conditions over the course of the weekend (both quads and motards). Once costs are known, we'll post them up as well.

The track design is well under way... Ross has come up with a fantastic layout after we walked the area on the weekend, and let's just say there will be parts that appeal to everyone... Even the MX riders :D

Additionally, Triumphs Lukey Luke (LLStunts) and Harley Davidson's Matt Mingay (Stuntz Inc.) will be tearing it up between races to continue the entertainment.

It looks like the format will be:
Race
Stunt
Dyno Comp
Race
Stunt

and so on...

Sounds great, I can almost cope with a flowing dirt section! I can't handle that stop/start shit. Have to build up my dirt skills beforehand.

There's a brochure that will be circulating at the 2009 Nationals in Perth... See Tim Lusk for a copy (#112, YZ450) or Ross Taylor (#3, CRF)

There's a PDF version here:

Just wondering how this meeting was progressing?

What days will the racing be etc. I can't see the brochure in the link above because I am not a member.

Looking to try and book some time off work.....

Hey sorry for the lateness of the reply, I've been flat out organising stuff.

Currently the Expo format will be:
Friday 2nd July -
Gates opening at about 7:00am to allow the competitors and exhibitors in for the final setup before opening to the general public at 9:00am.

As for racing:

Practice for the S1, S2, S3, Quad, Veterans and Female classes, split into 2 sessions, morning and afternoon, with the afternoon session to be reverse layout. Between sessions, we'll have the stunt riders doing their stuff, and dyno runs.

Qualifying 1 will be held in the afternoon.

Night time will have a FMX combined stunt display (i.e. FMX with road bikes going at the same time) and live bands.

Saturday will see an early start again, with qualifying to be held after a warmup session, and races 1-2 held straight after. Between qualifying and races, the dyno shootout will start for various classes, so all competitors can watch that going on if they're interested, as well as the stunt riders doing their stuff.

Saturday night will see more FMX/Stunt/Live band stuff.

Sunday will see races 3-5 held on the reverse layout, again interspersed with stunt riders, and dyno shootout. We'd ideally see racing finish mid-afternoon, so presentations can be made to you guys, along with the finals for the dyno comp and judging of the show and shine.

Some rather large news as well, we have Shaun Richardson from Earthquake Industries attempting to break the distance jump record, which is currently almost 400 feet. He'll perform this at some stage during thew weekend, and will basically have to do it as soon as the conditions are right during any evening.

Some huge names in SM are keen to attend. I've also spoken to Matt Coulter (aka The Kangaroo Kid) who we're working with to bring up for some serious Quad displays and demo's. He's talking about bringing his RG 500 powered quad up to do some demo laps on the track.

Due to a new leasing arrangement the council has with a company with the aerodrome, the venue has been moved to the Ayr Showgrounds, which has power in the area we're looking at setting up the pits/competitor/stunt/fmx riders, and has plenty of room for the jump area. The race track surface will consist of both part public road and speacialised bitumen at the back of the showgrounds.

So, how does this sound? None of this is official until next month...

I don't know where to start, that sounds awesome. :D

Pity about the aerodrome, would've been some potential for some FAST sections. Perth 2008 was nice, but a bit tight on the streets/car park.

The back road is 200m long and 10m wide... We should be able to incorporate something relatively fast and flowing... :D Talk to the track designer haha

Think there is.

This will be too far to drive, but if there is a truck then it might be a go-er depending on air fares...

Guys... Hold all plans. There is going to be an official announcement tomorrow about this. We have had to put the plans on ice for 12 months due to a number of factors, the least of which is the ongoing effects of the Global Financial Crisis.

NQ is 6 months behind the rest of the state in its recovery from the effects of the crisis, and as such financial backing has dried up. Verbal commitments made prior to Christmas have fallen through from a number of sponsors. All of the factories are feeling the pinch as well, with a number of them completely pulling out of other more established events.

The final nail in the 2010 plans was that the venue's management committee has walked out over other issues, mainly relating to the fact they have been running the show grounds for so long. No-one has stepped into the void left by the departing committee, meaning that the council has had to take it over in maintenance and care taker mode. This puts a hold on any further development of the site.

It's now only 3 1/2 months until the proposed event date, which is too short a time span to effectively source another suitable venue.

We would much rather see an event that all parties come away from over the moon about and wanting to come back for, rather than a half baked attempt which leaves everyone less than satisfied.

I am personally gutted over this, after the time and effort I and my family have put into getting it off the ground, only to have the rug pulled so close to the time. A number of other people have also donated their time to this event, and I can say that we all feel robbed.

I know a number of entertainers and competitors are also upset at the suspension of this event, as well as those others involved in the planning of the event.

We will be reassessing the viability of the event in September this year with the plan to hold it in 2011.

Please accept my personal apologies, and my commitment to keep fighting the fight to get this event squared away for 2011.

Stevo

Really sorry to hear that, I can sympathise with you having done all the background work only to have external forces bring it back down.

You can see why Supermoto or any other event for that matter is so hard to get happening when there are so many impactors involved and so many out of your control.

There are a number of us here in New South who were keen on a big trip north so don't give up, and we'll watch with interest to see how you go.

I'm also gutted that my bike got reversed over 2 weeks ago by a solicitor in a mercedes 4wd, who drove off without leaving details (luckily we had a witness, and he was visited by the constabulary and then offered his details).

Total damage caused: $9707.70.

Even more gutted again by my "insurance" company, Shannons, who I've been with for 5 years, insured 3 bikes, all for agreed value, and paying higher premiums, because I thought they marketed themselves as enthusiasts who also understand.

It turns out that my mint condition R1 is to be repaired and resprayed. Even though some of the fairings have plastic ground away fron the cement it was ground into.

So, for doing nothing wrong at all (bike was parked at work, under cover, in a designated bike park) I am to cop a resale value hit. And contrary to their product disclosure statement, I won't be getting it back in the same condition as it was prior to the accident.

Since Shannons got bought out by Suncorp, they've gone down hill apparently. I'll be cancelling the insurance policy with them as soon as this is "resolved".

The new R1 may be a shit bike in elite hands, but it'd do me...

Back to the topic of the Expo, next year will hopefully go to plan. With the contacts I have made this year, a lot of the ground work has been done already. I'm already looking for a more suitable, existing venue.
