View Full Version : "Bairnsdale Track Day" - Sunday 8th November

G'day ALL!
I am running another track day at Bairnsdale Kart Track, Sunday November the 8th!
Everyone who attended the last one in March had an absolute blast!
This is your opportunity to have a crack at a proper short course Motard style circuit! This track held one of the Australian Championship Supermoto rounds a few years ago.
This practice day will be bitumen only (at this stage, but a dirt section might be added),
The MV permit will be hosted under and the day will be run under the Traralgon Motorcycle club (TMCC).
As the day is to be MV licenced under TMCC those people attending who are not TMCC members (which probably is all on this site) would have to pay an additional $15 day membership.
If you don't hold an MA comp licence a day permit would need to be purchased also about $20.
Costing for the day!
$50 for all (to cover track hire and permits etc)
$15 for one day TMCC membership
$20 for one day licence if u don't hold an MA license.
So minimum cost $50, max $85
As its a short course (but bigger than TT) all motards welcome, 250's, 450's, 650's. We would be able to have a session for all level of riders. Last track day we ran 3 x 20min sessions per hour, but they seemed long, so 4x15min sessions will be tried this time!
Again, we can run the track in both directions, anticlockwise morning, clockwise afternoon, that way it's like havint 2 different tracks! :D:D:D
So people, come down and have a great day! There be more times to ride than u'll have energy too!
For those who dont know, bairnsdale is about 3 to 3.5 hours East from CBD of Melbourne.

http://vsmr.net/albums/tracks-roads/Bairnsdale_Kart_track.sized.jpg
So if u can confirm, please PM me with your Real name, SupermotoAus name and Bike u'll be on. We need approx 20 riders to make the day!
Last time we had over 30 riders attend, and I'm guessing there will be a few more this time as the MX guys had a blast, and told their mates! :D:D:p
So drop me a line, it'll be a ball again!

Ok, so I see the guys who came to the last one are there with bells on! If that doesn't say how good a day it is nothing will! hahaha
Catch cans & frame & peg sliders are optional! (not required)
We had a few MX guys turn up last time with their MX bikes with skinnys (tyres) fitted to std wheels, and they had an absolute ball!
There is no special requirements needed, except for a bike in good working order.
The sunday has been chosen as it suits a lot of people better, and the drive back to melb isn't too bad either!
Definatly worth the trip! Ask anyone who attended last time!
I travel that far nearly every time i have to ride!
If you want to use tyre warmers, you will need to bring a generator, the track is super grippy though so don't be worried if you dont have them!
This time I will be trying to use some more of the clubs facilities eg: Club BBQ for lunch & the PA system to notify you of the next class to be on the track! (these things were offered to me after the last day there.)
A few guys came down the night B4 and had a good night in Bairnsdale, but there is no camping at the track!
Any other questions u have just ask! Don't miss out because u didn't know something about the day!
BennyV
23-09-2009, 06:55 PM
Bloody oath worth the trip Marty!
Come down we can show the CRF force! hahaha
And as it's all bitumen ur bike wont get dirty! hahaha
Martyd
23-09-2009, 07:30 PM
Well - here it is- Are you all ready for it???
Martyd
23-09-2009, 07:35 PM
I WILL BE THERE!!!
Disclaimer: Marty will be attending the day regardless of weather, but should it actually rain - will be seen sitting on the CRF whilst still on the ute making Vroom Vroom noises. Under no circumstances will the risk of dirtying the CRF be considered with the balck sludgey shit that comes with wet area's. Lap times will be judged on a "back of the ute style points system" and will count as an official "track day" attended classification..

Just a point to note about optional catch cans.
I would advise everyone to make some attempt to contain their overflows/breathers because if you go down you will leave fluid on the track and this could be very dangerous to the riders behind you.
As a common courtesy maybe think about doing it for your fellow riders on the day, it will also save a clean up if necessary.
They are not hard to fit and can easily be rigged up on the day with an empty can/drink bottle, some gaffa/race tape and cable ties.
Just ask around the pits if you're unsure.
Cheers Mark
Wobbly
23-09-2009, 10:58 PM
And Marty will drink as many redbulls as necessary to 'make' the required number of catch cans

The Bairnsdale Kart track, just Melb side of Bairnsdale, next to the Bairnsdale aerodrome!
Lakes Entrance was a cool track! I raced the last Gippy centre MX they held there back in '91'.
So yeah, ur in the right area! lol
Marty! all ur laps can be laps of honour if u like! just with a few other bikes around u! Call the ur escort hahaha! (what ever plays in your mind is fine!) lol

You can go faster with a car & trailer than on your bike ?
One of the reasons I ride a bike is to reduce travelling time, must be me.
I can't go, flying to NZ that day, but will do next one.

Pretty sure my easy trailer can cope with 3 motards.

I've got a trailer, 7x4; just in the process of adding some tie down points for the front and I'm ready to go. Can fit an extra bike in. I'm in Pascoe Vale and am happy to drop past and pick someone else up on the way through. Not sure if I'm going up in the morning or the night before but I'm happy to take just the bike if the rider wants to go down with someone else. We can load the bike during the week.

Booked to do my Level 1 & 2 First aid on the 4th November. So I'm it guys, don't crash so I don't need to do anything for you.
I probably wont be riding either as my bike will be on it's way to Perth for the nationals, so will be flagging as well as camera man. ;)

Mark, u know u can have a crack on my thing too! I'll bring some spare gear too!
Thanks buddy!:)
We will easily have the numbers to fund the day! So don't worry about that!
There are a few who cant make it due to the National race in W.A (having bike being transported over) and a couple that cant be there due to double booked or breaking bones (steve!) lol
But we have a fair few extra guys turning up that were not there last time.
Numbers don't seem to be a problem.
The day will be a blast as was the last one!:D:D:D
So if ur undecided, Come on down! Bairnsdale is a super track for motards!

Would people attending like the availability of the large BBQ on site? (as there is no shops around)
I can organise to have the Kart clubs BBQ facilities ready for us if we like.

Also we will have the P.A in operation so I can call up the next group!
Times will be similar to last time, but its easier if u don't have to look at ur clocks to see when ur session is up!

Upon-One
30-10-2009, 07:25 PM
I was in second mostly, was third with 16/45 gearing and pulled it away clean the lap before i went down, i got little carried away with corner speed/lean angle the second time i tried.
My idea was to carry more corner speed in 3rd and have a less savage exit than in second, i have not ridden any other motards to compare but the Berg is a handfull coming out of slow corners on the tyre edge.
Mark was talking to me about weighting the outside peg, something i must try.

you normally trail the front brake right to the apex as your coming off the brake your getting on the throttle , its also a just in case of thing as well you never know whats going to happen with the other knobs out there :D:D
clutch is the same if you have to stop in a hurry , if your covering the clutch you can do it with out stalling the engine .
get used to having 1 finger on the brake and clutch at all times

Cheers mate, always lots to learn. I love it.
Mark - Like Shane says, trail brake with the front, you'd be surprised how hard you can brake right up until the apex. Obviously as the lean angle increases, the braking force should decrease but once again, you'll be surprised how much front brake you can use when cornering.

Rather than posting pics directly into the thread, just upload them to the gallery (go to the gallery link, go to the rides and races album, the last sub album after that should be the latest bairnsdale album). You can upload them as big as you like and then just copy the URL into your post using the little image button. No need to use photobucket or any of the other photo hosting services, you should be able to do it all directly here.

A real shame that I had a large number of people confirm that they were going to be there, who didn't turn up.
I'm going to have to do pre-paid bookings until I get numbers to cover the costs of the day next time.
I want to run another in the new year when the silly season has finished. People get inspired with the pics being uploaded! :D:D:D
By the way - how the hell do i get a pic down to 19.5kb and post it on a thread?????
You've done a great job mate!
I didn't want to say yes until I was 100% as I had/have a hell of a lot on.
I agree with pre paid bookings I would be happy to do that and I'd also be happy to loose the money f I couldn't make it. You shouldn't be out of pocket at all mate!

You can upload multiple files using the add items function, just keep clicking the more uploads button. I was looking for a good bulk upload thing like the old publishing wizard, but haven't found a good plugin yet...
