View Full Version : DRZ400 exhaust system shopping.
On one of my crashes I dented the muffler on the DRZ and now am in the process of convincing the wife about the new necessity in my life. From what I have read one of the Yoshi systems is the best for increasing HP on the DRZ, it is also very expensive and I am wondering what else is out there possibly Aussie made that is close to as good or better? I have seen the Roosta on a DRZ (full system) and the owner said it dynoed at 46 HP with original jetting and no other mods made aside from air box holes. Can anyone help with info?? Neil any opinions?

I haven't dyno'd mine, but dyno results aren't really comparable unless you have bikes on the same dyno on the same day. The best systems for the DRZ are basically the yoshi, muzzy and the pro circuit t4. But realistically look for a full system that has a tapered header with a larger secondary section than the start of the header if you want to make power.
Dunno how well they go but the barrets certainly look the goods :)

and they are all fecking loud :( ... i have a pro circuit on mine and it just seems that little bit too loud ... pro circuit do make a quieter muffler the 496? not sure how that complres to the T4 muffler ... it looks similar but is longer ...
Neil how loud is your exhaust? Is it above 96 decibels? Thanks for the info on the dyno. By how much HP can the same bike vary from day to day and dyno to dyno?

i think that i seem to recall seeing some noise testing for the pro circuit and it was about 102 dB ... i reckon neils yosh is similar volume to my PC ... definitely way louder than 96
d_Kimo do you know what HP you may be at with that pipe? Are you happy that you put it on or do you sometimes wish for something quieter. Was the power worth the money? Is the sound simply obnoxious or does it sound deep and throaty?
Cheers.
I think I may win an award for most questions asked on this forum.

no idea :)

most of the time offroad i would like something a bit quieter ... but onroad it mostly seems to be just fine
Was the power worth the money?
probably not ... mostly put it on along with aftermarket plastics so i could sell it shiny LOL and cuz it would sound a little better
Is the sound simply obnoxious or does it sound deep and throaty?
i rather like the sound :) ... nice and deep and really barks when you crack the throttle

is there an award ... maybe neil can help :)

Neil how loud is your exhaust?
Loud enough for cars to swerve out of his way on the freeway, so loud infact when I ride within a kilometer of him I can't here my own bike. The plus is that no one moves over on him in traffic. :D

Having ridden with and on neil's and kimo's bikes, I think neil's is louder. Not sure on the levels, but seem to remeber the rininging in my ears lasting longer  If yous are really really keen I can probably grab a sound level meter from work and measure them some time.

77 I have a CRD system system on my DRZ, I had bit of an experiment and put the standard system back on went for a ride, Then put the CRD full system on, a major difference!! I believe these systems are relatively priced, I am unsure of exactly how much, but my bike came from gold coast Suzuki, and thats were you are..............................
How load is your CRD? Also did it come with one of those quiet inserts? I will have to go down to GC Suzi and ask how much that system cost. I figured that it must be quite loud because it is quite small compared to other systems out there. Does it have a little fat section in the pipe about where the cylinder is or is it a straight pipe? We will have to meet up one day. I had hoped that last week at Qld raceway I might have met some fellow motarders, I should have written VSMR.NET 77 on the back of my head
How did you make out with the front brake and engine covers?

Not as load as my 426 was!! It has quite a good note you can here it coming alright, but not stupidly load like some, I think it is the best sounding exhaust i have had.
Still havent done the front brake yet, I have been away with work, now I am going to the Melb Grand Prix on the weekend si I think I am going to be broke for a while, might have to put the brakes on hold for a little longer, what front brakes are you running??
I have not been able to find any name on there (I have only had a quick look) but if you look in the DRZ gallery my bike and front wheel and all are on there. I will have to look into CRD for a full exhaust system price.
Cheers.
I wish I were going to melbourne (haven't been there in 10 - 12 years)

Yea I am looking forward to the Grand prix, any word on if there is going to be a QLD motard ride organised, we might have to organise something.
There is no word on any organized ride. I guess we will see what happens. I am going to the Stanthorpe races this weekend at least for one day anyway.

This is probably a good time to mention that there's normally a pretty big after GP ride organised from Phillip Island to Bright with the mcnews crew. Always great fun, although this year may be a little wet given the date change to september :)
I contacted Roosta Performance pipes and got a price on DRZ400 exhaust system. $550, stainless can with chrome steel tapered pipe (Yoshi style). The guy that owns it is a Motard Racer himself and builds the exhausts himself. Just thought I would share. It is Aussie made also. I thought it was a great price.
If anyone has any experience with Staintune or any other brand please share.

I have had a staintune before, on my XR400, it was not a bad system, I even got a super trap for my gals old ttr 250, that made a huge difference, and LOUD

Cal has a staintune on his drz (offroad only) ... seems ok, but it doesn't run a tapered header so would mainly be weight saving over the stocker. Not too bad price wise though. If the roosta is a tapered header modelled off the yoshi then that sounds like a very nice deal 8)
