This thread is very pre-emptive given we are just commencing 05 racing here.
Having said that and understanding the logistics and administration to bring a Team from the States I am going to put as much support in JR's endevour as I can. I say this now, as plans are being made now, to make this happen. As some of you would be aware, JR is a registered member of VSMR and is also passionate about the future of Supermoto/Supermotard, to the point of travelling overseas to realise his dream. In return, I wish to race Pikes Peak, have done so for many years now, and have had some discussion with G.T. regarding going there soon. Both JR and I are thinking about Thailand during 06 also, whether as a joint effort or individually will be discussed later.
Certainly as a non-profit enthusiast base, we will have grown somewhat, given in the last 3 weeks we have had 12,000 hits! and are steadily gaining interest/registered members :D, and there may be by then others prepared to offer assistance to JR in his effort here and in the planning of such! ;)
By then of '05, I hope that we have grown sufficently that we can afford to give all comers, wanting help and advice, the chance to grace our circuits with the support of an enthusiastic club base.
JR will post any questions he has, or current Stateside news we would want to know about on this thread. In return, I sent him a nice blue/white VSMR polo to sport at the racetrack... and podium! :supz: ( We expect a photo as proof!)

Pikes peak eh. when is it?
As an idea maybe we should try to organise a state series for next season with more than a couple of rounds, say 5 or more. Not worry so much about the National scene. We could try and make it the premiere championship. any ideas or is this off the mark?

As always, glad to help out in any way possible ... pikes peak would be awesome, used to watch the highlights of it when I lived in the US and looked like an excellent event ... great diversity of machinery etc.

And a local series would be great as well .... hopefully the seeds have been planted, and there's talk of the calder event becoming part of the national calendar........

The idea is good Ash, but already canvassed and investigated that. We need to be a financial member base with numbers before M.A. will let us do anything. I have enough on my plate this year and maybe next the way things are shaping up here to worry about the promotion side of the events. Sure we will support every endevour to bring more events and sponsor those accordingly, but at a level we can offer as a not for profit group.
I would look at discussion on Friday over a nosh about the leasing of the Winton track for a track day soon, with invited riders etc.. NOT A COACHING DAY, but a track day whereby you can ride all morning freely, lunch, ( A Catered lunch that is in comfort and air condish!) and then again in the afternoon....Sound OK? :-k

The biggest fear I have is the flight over! lol can I bring my racer as a carry on the flight, then I'll know it will make it safe. LOL
I have a few questions, cause I have never done this before and really just dont know what to do, What do I need to do to get my bike there, what type of things should I start working on now?
Thanks, J.R.

Probably look into some sort of automotive freight forwarders to get your bike shipped across ... and at what customs will need in order to tag the bike as a temporary import to avoid duty costs etc. There's probably quite a few companies doing this sort of thing, as the second hand import market is alive and kicking, and I know there's always a steady stream (if relatively small) of old US iron coming over both pre- and post- restoration....

I dont think you could catch either of us Ash, we would just turn left into a laneway behind a pizza shop in Mitcham, at very slow speed  and we would lose you straight away!

JR is keen to get mobile and survey what Australia has to offer,
But to do so needs some support.
He needs to satisfy the governments requirement for employment and racing schedules before he can be granted visas.
A legacy maybe of the terrorism measures at the immigration level.
But all the same, I have copies of his resume for those who may be in a position to offer him work for 30 day periods at a time, and also for his racing background if you are looking to invest some advertising dollars in his venture here for next years season of Supermoto/supermotard racing.
Ultimately we are seeking 2 bikes prepared for SMR, preferably Yamahas, 1 x 250 and 1 x 450.
I can obviously do the 250 thing but he will be aboard a bike with 3 years on it, abate a fresh engine. Maybe someone will have an 05/06 model handy for loan/lease by then from within VSMR.
The 450 is another matter and are now actively seeking the use of a bike.
I intend to canvas a few larger dealers and put forward his resume for further consideration.
VSMR will sponsor his effort and members are encouraged to piggyback that effort if in a position to do so.

I might be able to russle up some stunts on a loan bike during the breaks in the racing!!!
