Starting to get a bit sick of waiting for someone to make an overpriced set of pipes for the husky. Sooo, does anyone know of a common muffler core of about 36mm? Figure if I can find something near enough I can easily get some connecting pipe bent up...

u might just have to gut and shorten the ones u have now. CRF250's have twin pipes but have no idea of diameter

There has been some talk on other forums about if you can buy the RR end caps. Some have daid this was available in the past.

ATM the best cost effective solution i can find is buy two can, one left, one right and getting a exhaust shop to fab up ends to meet the standard pipes.

Might be worth seeing what Barrett can do. Have you talked to them direct?
I would be very interested in getting a new set of cans

Haven't talked to barret but probably an idea. The connecting pipe to the header will be piss easy to get bent up, its just finding cans the right size. Most will be too large as they are for single systems and will be ~ 50mm diameter. Going to a larger core will slow down exhaust speed and will most likely adversely affect the exhaust timing.

An option would be to gut the originals and re-core, but you'd end up using little of the original exhaust it might be more cost effective to build a completely new set.

Might drop barrett an email.

Just talked to barrett on the phone and they have no plans to do a dual muffler for the SMR :(

Another option would be to run a full exhaust for a TE, which is just single sided, and forgo the dual pipes...

Bummer about barrett.

if the only way i can get a aftermarket can is to get rid of the twins then i wont bother.
Local shop did think the CRF twins might work, as mentioned by Jov

keep in mind the crf twins have different size end caps depending on the side of bike.

Here is some info on the Leo Vince CRF250 cans.

https://www.leovinceusa.com/schematics/large/DT-3858.pdf

FMF, Pro Circuit do these as well.
Sure you can find something it will be just making it work.

The question i have asked myself.
Is it worth it?

Can the OEM computer be loaded with a new map to suit the new cans or will you have to fit aftermarket equipment like a tune boy?
Are maps available for the OEM computer?
Is the OEM computer able to adjust to suit the changes made by new cans?
IF you go down the road of cans / aftermarkt EMS how is the warranty affected? Cause face it, its going to be needed!

Don't get me wrong I am very interested in what you can find and I am doing my own research on this cause i would love to hear more bark from the bike.
I can't say i am prepared to throw away my warranty to get it.
After all that 24 month warranty is one reason i stayed with a Husky second time around considering the cost of the claims i made on my 07

The EFI can be tuned within certain limits using the iBeat software that goes along with it. I'm thinking that going to a set of aftermarket cans may be worth going to a power commander as well, as you could drop the bike on te dyno and get it set up perfectly using an oxygen sensor. Warranty wise, all I'll say is that if anything does go wrong, you should be able to unplug the PC and put the stock exhausts back on and who could tell? :) Not that I'd condone that of course :D But in reality, sticking on an aftermarket set of pipes and getting the fueling set up properly should make it more reliable, not less of course.

The other side of the coin is that if you bought the husky ti race system then you would expect the standard EFI to be able to adapt to it, maybe with a bit of a tweak by the dealer with iBeat. Any aftermarket system should be similar dynamically as long as the cores are about the same size.

An interesting thing with that CRF system is that it runs a single header at 38mm which expands to 40mm, then each mid pipe splits off at 40mm and then expands to 45mm for the actual muffler. The husky SMR system seems to start at about 38mm, run into a larger collector and then split mid pipes back at 38mm OD (~36mm ID). Be interesting to see what the dimensions of the RR system are and if they are any different.

I'm pretty sure you can buy flat stainless sheet with holes in it.
I believe that is what they use for the core. They just roll it to different diameters. I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to find someone to roll it for you and put some spot welds on it.
You could use it to replace the standard cores in your pipes

i wouldnt reccomend it, but you can buy perforated core.

i was quoted ~ 40-50 for a straight pipes worth of 1 3/4" perf from the guys at megacycle

i ended up just buying some from a car exhaust place for $10-15

the reason why i wouldnt recommend it is that exhausts are tricky things, better left to people who understand them better than us mortals.

i think the dealer would be fine with it. Putting Honda parts on it could only make it more reliable ;)

If you want stainless perforated sheet, Metalmesh in Braeside might be closer.

But if you're near Braeside you may as well keep going to Megacycle on Cheltenham road and see what they say.

There's a guy up here in Noosa that does a lot of Dirtbike systems and they look quite nice. Terry Kelly (TK pipes - http://tkpipes.com.au ) he might be able to help you out. they are similar to the Barret ones in looks.

Might talk to bikecraft as well, as they do some custom exhaust work too. Will talk to TK as well though.
