Whos in for this one? Due to my missing round one I've transfered my entry across to this one. Last chance for practice before the QLD champs!

Bummer Jove & Joe. Guess that means I'll be 2 places closer to the front ;)

Quick question.... Do I need to do anything with the crankcase breather pipe. Its just poking out the bottom in a gap in the swing arm at the moment. Is a catch can of some sort required??

Cheers

Joe

Yeah you better, unless you want to crash when oil sprays out and then make everyone else crash, then delay the meeting while they take forever to clean it up, then still have to avoid that line anyway because it has that oil absorber powder all over it..... BUT don't worry if you fine with that :D  :D

Seriously though, you do need a catch can for all those hoses that fluids can leak from. Also supposed to have case covers for out there as well. Water in rad, lockwire all that jazz.

By case covers, were they ok with a bash plate that fits just over the front of the engine & water pump cover? If you were to put another cover over the clutch cover the space would be too tight to allow your rear brake lever to function correctly, on my bike anyway. What solution did you come up with Joe?

Tell me about it... I just used a bit of .5mm stainless sheet and secured it over the clutch cover. Other side I used a bit of 3mm alloy strap about 20mm wide going diagonal across. I just did mine pretty crap to satisfy them.
Not sure if they will let a bash plate pass. One scrutineer might, but the another one might not.

Ash007

I have a few rolls of aluminum foil at home, maybe they will pass that. :) I may try and do somthing up with carbon fibre over the clutch plate using this technique. http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/carbon-fiber-motorcycle-parts/ . Does anyone want to do a group buy on Carbon Fibre cloth? I think you can only buy it in large amounts and I will have no use for all 5 metres of the stuff.

I really have to get my act together and get my bike built or I won't make the QLD round next month.

TG
13-04-2009, 11:33 AM
Yeah you could do this "skinning". Supa4 did this on his husky. Just have to run the carbon over the where the bolts hold the cases on so that the cover is "bolted on". Just covers you with the GCR's requiring the cover to be bolted on. You can buy carbon cloth from C.G. Composites in Brisbane. They will probably do small quantities. Cloth ends up about $50 a square metre.

You also have to be pretty careful with keeping the sealing surfaces clean or your cases will leak.

lee#25
13-04-2009, 11:58 AM
Not sure how I'm going to do my case covers. There's no way I've got any room for metal covers and I don't have the know how to make carbon ones.
I've laid the bike on its side and there's about 6" of day light between the ground and the cases so its impossible for them to touch down. That should be good enough according to the wording of the rule.

TG
13-04-2009, 12:15 PM
Yeah the question has been asked a few times now. Ruling seems to be that if the frame doesn't hit before the case does then you need to have covers. Even just a thin piece of sheet alloy bent and bolted on is sufficient.

Ash007
13-04-2009, 01:33 PM
I'm not going to have the time to make Carbon guards between now and 16 May, so unless I can find a shop that sells sheets of sheet metal I am just going to buy a $20 galvanised shelf unit from bunnings and bend/cut one the shelves to fit. This gives me 5 attempts if I get it wrong. :)

Rider list is out - Bikes are not listed but going by the names it looks like we have at least 10 motards this time.

Ash - PM's don't leave your Outbox until they have been read.

It was taken about a two years ago, the track is mostly harpacked and can get a bit dusty, but it has been raining a fair bit so it should be ok. There are 4 MX tracks, this one is the begineers track.

Looks like we got our own class happening this round :D

I wonder if that means we can perform foot out shenanigans without the roadracers packing a sad ???

That's a seriously depleted field for this round. Hardly any New-Era and only 2 400's!!

With only 11 bikes in our class I'll have to revise my expectations... top 10 just isn't going to cut it this time!!

Once again another great weekend at Warwick.

Unfortunately there were a few regular riders missing from this round (Joe, Jovian and Devo) and Jay was on his wife's CRF450 due to bike dramas. This meant that we were reduced to 3 Apes on the grid and as I had no chance of catching Adam and John, 3rd was looking like my best prospect.

First qualifying for me was shitful, I was near my PB but it felt like I was riding like a gumby.

Second qualifying was going a bit better until I had an off track excursion coming onto the straight and couldn't get back on track in time to avoid the crash bags. I can't remember much apart from the rear tyre sliding, but according to the start marshal, instead of lowsiding I ran off track and rode parallel with the track until I hit. Result was 3 crashbags, bike and rider on the track and a red-flagged session. By all accounts it looked pretty spectacular! I wasn't injured (not even a bruise!) but I did manage to kill another helmet by trying to stand up while sliding!

Ended up with grid position #3 which is where I expected to be. WooHoo! first front row start!

Race 1: Start was pretty crappy with way too much wheelie. Followed Adam and John into turn 1 and that was pretty much the last I saw of them! It was a pretty lonely race in 3rd so I concentrated on maintaining a gap to P4 and raced my laptimer. Made a mistake in turn 7 and got passed but managed to go up the inside in turn 1 on the concrete! :D Finished 3rd but John jump started so I got 2nd.

Race 2: Got a good start and managed to get the holeshot! I though Adam was going to get me around the outside but he went in a bit quick and ran off track. Once again a lonely race until Adam passed me at warp speed on the ripple strip outside of 3 - it was amazing to watch!! Result 3rd.

Race 3: P2 on the grid was vacant due to Adam's bike dramas, I got a good start and lead John into the first turn but somehow I managed to fck it up and he passed me with ease around the outside! once again a lonely race until I made a few mistakes and got passed by P3, it made the race much more interesting being able to follow someone, even if it was only for half a lap!! Finished 2nd but Adam had caught up to the 3rd position on the track after starting 3 laps down.

Overall I got third for the weekend but it was a bit of a hollow result as I would have preferred be racing against Devo and Jay who I see as realistic competition. Laptimes dropped and my PB is now mid 1:09, 1:08 is the target for next time but that might take some suspension fiddling to find.

Thanks to Sporties for a great meet and to everyone for making sure I was ok after having a lie down.

I had a great weekend with no placings really worth mentioning but also no crashes ;)

Really need to practice my starts as every race except the last one I was dead last into turn one. Spent the rest of the races passing a couple of slower riders and then trying to close down on the guys that were similar pace to me. Still had lots of fun and a couple of good battles with Tom and had a lot of fun chasing him down once I got past the slower guys.
I think I got a 7th and 2x 9ths which put me 1 point behind Tom for the weekend. Managed to knock 2 secs of my PB though from the last time at MP so I'm down to 13.5's which I'm reasonably happy with considering it was only my second visit to MP.

Notable moments:
Adam running off track and then fighting back through the pack was a sight to behold (not that I got to see him for longer than a couple of seconds!!) But the way he monsters that Ape around when he's on a mission is definitely exciting to watch.
Also coming on to the main straight to see Paul jumping up from cliping the crash bags and armco. Very lucky with that one mate!!

All in all a very well organised and run event. Thanks to all who contributed to its success

Well done to all. Paul even though the others weren't there you gotta be stoked with 3rd overall!

I checked my results from Mac Park the other night and I'm 6th in the SM class and 6th in the Thunderbike class. (Behind Nico 5th, and Timmy 4th) Pretty happy with that considering I've never raced Mac Park. But like you another quick kid did not race(Ben100) but I've ridden Winton before so I know what to expect and know that I have to qualify better to improve my chances over this coming weekend.

I had an awesome weekends racing. Had some really good chases with Lee and Jay. It was great being able to watch Jay for a couple of laps while we were held up by a slower rider. Still learning how fast I can go through a corner. The bike just impresses me all the time as to just how fast it can go.

Also had a good chat with Adam and Paul over a beer on Sunday night as to how and where I can improve. Bring on the Queensland Road Race champs!

Saturday looked like a great day of racing from turn 4. There were a few moments and most people managed to pull there bike up in time, some a little more unorthodox as other. There were a few offs for the F1 & F2 boys, many a $$$ left lying in turn 4 runoff area.

Well done guys. Good to see everybody had a good weekend. I told you Paul that the bike crashes well. Great that you have got the hang of the bike and getting quicker.
I've bought some more bling for my bike over here. Actually got to see a 450 MX in the flesh and heard it running. Sounds really sweet.
Looks like I will have to get my suspension reset when I get back as putting on the kilos due to too much amber fluid. Hopefully get back on the track with you guys first round of the Queensland Champs.
Going to watch a round of the Scottish Champs on Sunday.

Shane,
Would love to come over for the weekend but this is the weekend of the Anniversary party that we have come here for so it would be impossible.
I'm sure it will be warmer than Scotland!!!!!!
Everyone here thinks it's warm but we are freezing our nuts off (12 degrees tops).
All the best for the weekend. Be safe
Remember to post up some pics.
