Hi all,

I'm about to join the ranks of the motarders!

I've taken on the task of converting an XR650R which I'm picking up tonight.

Unfortunately I have no mechanical experience what so ever but I'm a pretty quick learner.

Any tips and suggestions are most welcome.

First thing is wheels. If anyone has any motard wheels sets to suit an XR650 or XR650 dirt wheels I can take the hubs from that they're interested in selling, let me know.

Thanks,
Victor

G'Day Mate,
There are several blokes doing biulds now on XR650's throughout the forum.
There is a wealth of info there if you shoot the blokes a P.M about the concerns you have.
Tom is building a very nice one and would be able to help you with the solution to a few problems and the quick path to take, rather than the one where you pay for something that doesnt fit and cant be returned, you know.

Welcome aboard Victor! Tom is probably the guy to ask about the mootang conversion as muzz says, as he's well on the way already 8)

Building up the tard is pretty straight forward and is easily do-able by a relative novice as most things are just bolt and go. You might hit the occasional challenge, but that always breeds good invention

Have a bo-peep around the site and a good read on some of the build up threads and you should be well on your way :)

It was good while it lasted......

Someone stole my beautiful XR over the weekend! From the apartment LUG as well.

I hadn't even gotten started on converting it yet, which is probably a good thing.

So bikeless now. Insurance has started processing the claim, but it'll be a while yet till I see any money.

I'm strongly contemplating getting another bike even though the claim hasn't been finalised as I really need the bike for transportation. I guess I just have to hope I don't get screwed over by the insurance company although it seems pretty clear cut.

At the moment thinking a DRZ400

That just plain sucks :?

Well, at least it gives you time for new bike shopping ... though the XR makes a good road motard mount :)

Thanks Jake for the offer, but I've found a pretty nice motarded DRZ400 already.

2000 model with low kms and CBR wheels. Price is not too bad as well. I'm a little worried about getting something else before being paid out by the insurance. I just can't seem to go without a bike for very long!

I bought my current bike before i got the insurance payout on my last bike, was a bit scary for a while, since i was claiming on someone elses insurance and not my own (mental note. . . must get insurance soon!!!)

But it all worked out in the end.

By the way, who is the best option for insurance for a very modified motard?

Do you know the second worst thing about bike theft. The scum that steal our pride and joy, flog em off for $1,500. Yes, only 1 and a half grand!!!! And that is for a new new road bike worth at least 14 grand secondhand. I'd hate to thing what they get for a dirt bike.....youd thing the risk of death would not be worth the piddly money.

I was just about the write a post about my "new" DRZ400 motard which I was really loving except...... some f$&ker stole it on Friday!

I can't believe it, two bikes stolen in a month and a half. These c%#nts need to have their balls cut off and rammed down their throats.

Thankfully I'd just received the cheque for the first stolen bike (NRMA). Had the new bike insured with Swann. Don't think they're going to believe this story. Even if they do agree to pay out I can see myself having trouble getting insured for yet another bike.

I think you have two options.

1. Move. or more my style

2. Set up a rig with a shotgun pointing at the general direction of someone who would be trying to steal your bike. Then you can come home and mutalate their dead body!!

Thank god you have (had) insurance, I hope it dosent happen again.
