I managed to get my hoops fitted to the new rims last night. I was hoping to get working on the dirt>motard swap on the weekend. How long should it take to do the swap?
I've got to do the following:
- Front and back wheel swap (using existing sprocket & brake on the rear)
- New front 320mm rotor and caliper adapter
If I have time i'd like to do the motard front guard and the headlight as well...
I can only spare maybe 1-2hrs on saturday & sunday morning... will this be enough?

hang on, are you going to run a dirt rear sprocket on the 17 inch rear rim?
If so, the smaller 17 inch rim will gear the bike down heaps and make it a bit shit. It wont feel like it is going anywhere, it will just rev out. I have run my YZ with a 50 tooth rear with Muzz's 17 inch rims and it was shit. I luckly had the op to do it again, this time with a small rear sprocket to give it some legs and it was a dream.
By buying a small (the others can tell you sizes) sprocket and having it already mounted on the rim, you will save yourself time and make riding more fun.
2 hours easy, even with the sprocket change (if you know what you are doing {or have expert help!}), you will do it under an hour after a few times, but it wil give you the shits if you have to do it all the time.

hmmm, was thinking about buying the new Pre Pel Cush Drive sprocket.. I might wait a little as $150 for the sprocket and cush drive is a little expensive.
In terms of the gearing, it currently runs a 44T on the rear, if I change the sprocket it will be going down to a 41T, so I don't think the difference will be huge.

Neils DRZ is set up about as well as any DRZ could be.
It has enough snot off the mark, and still will run high speed for a single cylinder machine.
The gearing he has fitted seems pretty well the optimum choice.

Yeah but it is a 440 with bigger cams!

All the same though Ash,
In fairness, he hasnt altered the gearing from the stock engine configuration...

Fair enough, I was just mentioning it. I'd love to have a ride of it to see how well it goes!! :D

I think the stock gearing on the drz is 14/47, which coupled with the smaller motard wheels makes it incredibly short geared. 15/39 is the tallest you can go without resorting to custom sprockets.
Anyone is more than welcome to ride it whenever they want - just ask :)
