Seeking information on behalf of new member from W.A.
Phildo rang me looking for some wheel info and rim detail regarding his XR SMR he is building...
Antti had the pin wheels sorted and wondered if he could shed some light here for the new fella doing the swap?
Hamp has just done the 426 he recently bought with RGV wheels, but of course they differ.
Brakes of course was another topic we discussed and I mentioned Toms recent win with a bling rotor to fit his beast.

I did finally get the CBR250 wheels on, Muzz. Yeah, they fit not too bad.
Front: CBR axle is 20mm, Xr is 17. Make a few bushes that fit inside the CBR bearings as well as acting as spacers. CBR wheels is a fraction wider (about 4mm??) at the bearings, so the CBR speedo or XR speedo drive can't really go back on (the CBR wheel turns backward anyway). USe a MC19 wheel (single 310mm disc) and it fits inside the forks with about 1mm to spare if it is centred. Also need to make a caliper bracket if using the XR caliper. Seems to work OK.
Rear: Similar hassles to above except the XR axle is also 20mm in the this case. Just need spacers made. The CBR disc is only 220 mm (xr is 240) so it will actually go on, but the pads hang off the edge. Dehaan will cut you a disc for $60, or planet disc (who use dehaan anyway) for a little more. Biggest pain with the rear is the cush drive is a bit wide, by about 5mm or so. It will fit in the bike, but to just clear the LHS swingarm with the sprocket, the wheel has to fractionally offest to the right. This in turn requires about 5mm machined off the disc mount. Not a huge hassle, but frustratingly close. The alternative to make it really neat is to machine 5mm out of the cush drive. This will require machining off both the sprocket carrier AND the wheel AND cutting down the rubbers. A bit of work and measuring needed, but the finished item would be factory sweet - ie, centred wheel, discs that line up, etc. I took the slacker option with offset wheel by 5mm to the right and it seems to ride sweet. Also, in case you wondering, there is a fair bit of space in the XR swing arm, especially with the slight offset. A 5" rim would go in with a 160 no probs I think :)
And I'm using GPR70 tyres which I'm finiding just awesome on the road.
And it goes real nice and wheelies and stoppies like a bastid.
And it all cost 650 for the wheels (with didgey spacers supplied), and $60 for the disc, and $45 for a new sprocket, and $35 for a pushbike speedo and $340 for the tyres. Well worth it IMO, especially since I still have the dirt wheels :)

Nice work antti :) How have you found the brake so far with the big disc and the standard carrier?
The nice thing about using cast rims is that they have heaps of clearance between the caliper and the mag itself, so you can stick on a cheap 4-pot caliper from a sportsbike which is generally to wide for a spoked rim. You have to get a bracket made up of course, but that's about it. I have a couple of spare tokiko 4 piston brakes in the shed if you want one to play around with.

Yeah, that could be good, Neil. At the moment I'm still tidying up a few other loose ends :)
The std front brake is OK, but not great. It has a loktof lever travel, but then come on pretty stong. A bit hard to be entirley smooth with. The bracket all flexes and carries on a bit, rubbing here and there, but it's not too bad. Better than the stock brake at least....
