EOI for a weekend of good value free for all motarding across the Alpine areas including Mt Hotham, Falls Creek, Eldorado and Beechworth.
A few historic sites to visit,
http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/resources/22_2133.pdf
A bit of easy offroad along maintained fire trails,
Some unreal scenery for the photographers and motel accommodation / shopping in Bright - Porepunkah - Mt Beauty for the girls.
http://www.brightvictoria.com.au/
Fishing etc for those also interested in doing so after riding and as usual some beer drinking on the Saturday night.
Date can be made advantageous to the bulk of interested parties but suggest around Australia Day weekend ;)
Bikes obviously need to be fully registered and the only costs are those incurred for accommodation / bike fuel and whatever you eat / drink.
Neil and a few others have stayed in the motel at Bright and would be in a better situation to appraise that side of things including meals etc.
Other locations are also up for discussion,
Like the previous thread concerning the hut at Geehi in the Alpine National Park :D

sounds awesome, I've discussed doing a ride like this with Neil, and am keen as, but due to house building/ work trips etc probably won't be viable 'till the end of next year. Time to break out the distanzias boys!

I'll be up for it if I can find a motard between now and then!

The date I suggested is just that, only a suggestion.
If someone has a date that would suit them better post it up like
Justin did 'after the start of Feb' ;)
Im riding hotham this weekend. with 21 others. We do it first weekend in dec every year.

So you know what sort of fun can be had too then :D
Nice pictures and from a few cool locations Gonzo.
Real good assortment of bikes and obviously the XR400 wouldn't have been the slowest on average either.
We wouldn't have enough time to do that much distance in only a
weekend / 3 days but over some nice roads and trails all the same ;)
Can be later in the Autumn months so people can sort a long weekend,
March is still nice weather up there and theres a Labour Day Holiday in early March isn't there?

Star Hotel as recommended by Neil and a few other that have been and stayed there,
Details in general
http://www.brightpubs.com.au/home.html
As well as drop down menu with pricing
http://www.brightpubs.com.au/the-star-hotel/star-accommodation.html
Bookings can be made directly to the Hotel with all contact details on the webpage.
Rides wise Saturday could be a run over Tawonga Gap to Mt Beauty for fuel and up to Falls Creek to Rocky Valley Pondage and then to Omeo,
Back across through Dinner Plain / Hotham Heights to Bright :-k
Tania will be on the back with me for most of the weekend and I would encourage those with wives / GF keen enough or that enjoy the bike to bring them along too.

There is actually a slightly more twisty road on the other side of the Kiewa Valley to the east of the river which might be more suitable than the relatively boring run up the west side of the river.

girls :P
how many k's would be a factor for me :D
Mountains are usually made from dirt. Shouldnt be a problem.
Ive done some dirt on the outskirts of Porepunkah (couple k's before Bright) - across the road from the airstrip - well actually, its more of a strip. "Eagle Ridge" from memory. Plenty of fire trails.
PS - wish I was going, sounds like a great weekend.

well dirt is a factor cos i won't be on a tard

Last time I was in Bright I rode down the back of Falls Creek to Omeo on a K3 GSX-R750. It was fun but probably not that good for the bike

Plenty of dirt on the sides of the roads, if you want to ride it you are quite welcome. ;)
Muzzard
03-12-2008, 07:12 PM
Not a great deal of dirt really this time round.
(We could have another crack at a decent camping weekend again like spoken of late last year again for more dedicated dirt)
It would be made roads as such just dirt in places though.
I am pretty sure the road from Rocky Valley to Omeo is mostly sealed now and should be OK in any instance for you Nick.
Its a plethora of roads around and up and down both sides of the river really.
You cant go too wrong anywhere we head out from Bright :D
Did my hotham ride on the weekend. 19 sports bikes, 1 GS1200, 1 DR650 and my 610. While the sports bikes went from whitfield to Bright via the straight boring bit, the remaining 3 of us went this way:
http://vsmr.net/albums/bitsnbobs/hotham.sized.jpg
Fun roads, 3 creek crossings and great scenery up behind buffalo. Is this the type of dirt you were planning? It wasnt technical stuff, but a roadie might have a little trouble.
PS... Albonator; your VholdR was great. I'll post up some footage soon

Muzzard

Exactly the same road in fact Brendan but going back the other way and then across the road they took on the sport bikes.
Nice offroad motarding isnt it ? :P
No problem. As long as you dont hand it to a police man. You can read number plates rather easily. The sound is useless though. Even standing still it sounded like i was in a tornado. 1 gig for 21 minutes of footage is pretty good.

Not that there's that many in the roads up here ...
But has anyone given this another thought recently.
Its only about 5 weeks away now.
I should have the LC4 back together and looking like its registered by then so are keen to get some road k's on it up there.
Whos still in and whos blown the budget over Christmas?

I'm still keen, I will have to register & pay the stamp duty on my bike the week before and rent is on the 7th so things will be very fukn tight budget wise but I still want to do it.
Without reading back through the thread is there anywhere we can stay that has cabins that we can stay in and all pitch in towards?

Either of the 2 Hotels mate.
They both offer bunk type arrangements with 6 in a room I think.
Neil would be better to appraise you of that than me.
My new wheels arrived today and there is a few things need sorting but the rear has a tyre on it so thats a start ;)

Either is ok, can't remember which is which, i think the star hotel is the one up by the roundabout and the other hotel is the one in the middle of town? Anyway, either are fine, the one in the middle is probably a little better and has much better food (last time i was there anyway)...

It might be for the better after reading this weeks local paper.
Operation 'Autumn Leaves' is on here which sees Mr Plod spending the first 16 weeks of 2009 camped out in Bright and camouflaged into the bush here and there about the area with all sorts of speed detection devices.
Targetting motorcycles in particular so maybe we look to this later in the year or find an alternative location.
Coincidentally ATM the Police offroad motorcycle group is active in the area.
Many caught with unregistered bikes in and around Myrtleford and are now working the Beechworth / Stanley / El Dorado area.
Bummer,
Sees me out of a few bush rides for the next couple of weeks
