G'day, It looks like the waterpump seal is leaking the goodstuff down the side of my engine.

on the left (foot) side of the engin the weep hole is seeping brown water.

my local(ish) ktm shop had the parts required except for 1 oring (which they assure me is not likely to need replacing)

so im off to pick up an oring, 2 seals and a gasget on the way home.

I havent had a chance to look at the workshop manual but im wondering (since its apparently a common prob) has anyone on here done one?

is there anything i should know?
i guess i will need new coolant.
will i need new oil?

Cheers
Ben

its been done a couple of times on this bike apparently (ask JB lol)

but the parts (minus 1 oring) are $31 and ktm weribee quoted just under $100 parts and labor (he said 1/2hr labor so it cant be that hard i figure)

ive just read on ktmtalk ect that its "common on these engines" but i couldnt find any how to's ect

but this has done quite a few (mainly road) k's ~10,800

if it makes you feel any better theres a 525 on bikesales or ebay with 40,000ks on it

40K  wow!

Sounds like a cheap enough thing to fix then. Good luck

if it's been done a few times on the bike then i'd probably see about putting some gasket goo in there as well to help it seal?? my top end rebuild went well so just undo the bolts there, take off the old gasket, and tighten the new stuff up properly. it shouldn't be much of a problem.

get it all done then give the new steed a run at TT!

Never done a ktm one but all the japper ones i've done are pretty straight forward. Not that that helps you any :lol2:

Can you find an online service manual to download?

thanks for the offer, however ive got the manual. and just got back from BTX (the second place i went to and 3rd i rang)

BTX were awesome for service compared to richmond and accessorize. so ill be giving them all my business

the bloke there tried to explain some (50) special things i needed to do that involved various greases and sealents and so forth

ive probably forgot it all but im still confident enough to give it a go

big thumbs up BTX (who have moved down burwood hwy a bit) in FTW

that was a bit dicky. i started at 2:30 is and it took me almost 2hours lol

my biggest problem is that i always almost damage something metal when removing circlips and stuck seals ect...but i think i got away with out doing anything too bad this time ;)

time for a test ride....once i sought out this bloody exhaust
