Started at 9am left my house in Echuca Me on the wr, Jimbo on his new Thruxton.Headed for Rushworth typical ride flat boring and me vibrating like .............

After Rushworth it got better then we headed for Euroa then on the way to Merton where it has a nice mountain pass about 12-15kms long.

I had left Jimbo for dead within 3 corners and past a few other bikes soon after.
It probaly gutted em seeing the half torn&faded L plate flapping off the back :finga:

Once we cought up we headed for Alexandra for some food and time for me to stop shaking
From there we fuelled up and headed for Marrysville(sp?) once there we headed up Lake Mountain road( I think that was it)

It was one sweet road until half way up it started raining then that turned into fog as thick as I have ever seen then I was seeing snow on the road so, I stopped and waited for Jimbo to catch up, After 5 or more minutes he showed up we then decided to go up a bit further :|

Wrong move :!: I took of and the bike looped around within 2 metres sliding out. Breaking the brake lever and front gaurd( sorry Murray I will replace it  ) also tearing my new grips...... all under 10kmh!!!

So we headed back then cruised to healsville then had a drink turned around and went home. No front brake sucks

My first time up there and cant wait to do it again 8)

Patience our young apprentice ;) That road leads up to the reefton spur, which is one of the bestest roads around, as long as you can convince ash not to go shooting down the acheron way instead that is  :lol2:

That's the road that cuts out the reefton spur to get to warburton, about half dirt (skatey dirt too ;) ) ... as you turn right off the maroondah hwy toward marysville its that road the heads off to the right shortly afterward, signposted for warby. I tend not to favour it myself since the reefton is such a good stretch of road and because i wet my panties on anything no resembling tarmac :lol2:

We could always go to warby on the acheron and then come back the reefton then we'd be able to do the black spur twice :supz:

I like the Acheron Way.
My favourite loop is
Healesville
Donna Buang
Warburton
Reefton
Marysville
Acheron Way (Cement Creek)
Healesville

Not a wheel touches the Black Spur.

Black spur is a great piece of road, esp now that its been resurfaced, but its a bit of a parking lot most of the time :(

jakestein

Just follow the road from healsville to marysville - you would have ridden along it I would have thought

The road between Marysville and Healsville = Reefton?

I am unsure what roads I was on, Black spur is only 10km or so yes?
Fucked if I know to busy on the back brake.
I would like to learn the area more tho.

A little bit. Just trying to get some good gear, as it makes it a huge differance to comfort. Just road bikes, well a few mtb for wheelie practice, as my road bike does not have a read brake, so cant do wheelies on it!

I am sooo unfit now, so if I dont do some work on it now, I will be a wreck by the time I am.....er....an old fart! Also, if I can ride a motorbike flat out for longer, it has to be a good thing.

Yep, when you leave healsville and go through that really windy bit before the straight that leads up to the marysville turnoff, that's the black spur. The reefton spur is basically from cumberland junction down to reefton (and then warburton). You got up to the connecting bit that runs between marysville and cumberland junction - which is probably also considered to be part of reefton spur I guess.

No way. Once you hit the junction, Reefton is over and it is time to spin round and cut more laps!!

The connecting road between cumberland junction and marysville is not comparable to reefton, it is only a transport stage!

IMHO :D

Jake,

I used to ride with the guys who run that site.
That list is by no means the definitive list of good roads, and it is very rarely updated.
I'll try to compile an equivalent list for 'tard roads.

Sibbo,

I agree that the Reefton stops at the top, but don't feel that you have to turn around just because of that.
Try the Acheron way one day, but be wared, as Neil says it can be a bit slippery on the dirt section if it has been raining during the previous week.
The road is about 50/50 sealed dirt.
The sealed section is almost flat, constantly twisting, fixed radius blind corners.
Extreme grin factor.

dicky.

There is one left hander on the acheron way that tightens (going to wards warby)
Good idea on the list of "Tard" road Dicky!!

Dicky, I have been down the Acheron way, but in 4 doors (up there for the rally of Melb). I have also been down the road that no one goes down at the cumberland juntion!!!

I was looking for a short cut to mansfield and that it aint!!! Imagine a VL with trailor and YZ 6 wheel drifting every where and at one stage l I had both wheels of the trailor off the groound!!!

Still loved it.
