2008 Supermoto Championship Series Final Postponed

Oct. 07,2008 3:00 PM

Due to a last minute loss of venue, this weekend's Supermoto National Championship to be held in Austin this weekend Oct 11-12, has reluctantly been canceled. XTRM and the AMA apologize for this inconvenience and want you to know that we are committed to this series. Please know that all efforts are being made to relocate this event finale. More information regarding this event will be distributed as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

The Armadillo Supermoto has been canceled. This is terrible and we did everything in our power to pull this off. An East Austin neighborhood association presented petitions to Council against us from using the venue last week and we fought with everything we had to change this. We had been assured by a number City officials as we went through this process that our event was going to happen and we truly believed we'd be seeing trophies lifted in the air after the races. We have a press release coming but for know stop all travel plans. We're very sorry that the AMA, the XTRM Sports Network and our team couldn't bring a resolution to this issue.

All the rumors and bashing about the promoters is a waste of time. They have given EVERYTHING they have to make this the best supermoto race ever and to bring the sport to Texas and the southwest!! This is the best promoted race in the series, these guys believe in the sport and are truly broken hearted at the impact this is having on ALL the racers. There were so many amateurs that were looking forward to this! When the parks department wouldn't budge due to fear of a couple of people on the east side neighborhood association (who are not even elected officials) a new track was found, permits in place, dirt at the track, they were ready to roll!!! Why didn't the race happen then??? Because the AMA and XTRM pulled the plug!!! They were worried they wouldn't get enough money out of it! They didn't care about all the people on their way, the tickets already sold, the money that came out of the promoters pockets, the sponsors, they didn't even leave the airport to come look at the track!! If anybody is to blame it is them!!!! The dirt section would be being built at this very moment.
There was so much more than a race going on. This was going to be the first "green" motorized race, proceeds were going to be donated to Make a Wish, the Hart Safety Foundation, AND to the east side neighborhood association, the list goes on. The bottom line is this: Politics isn't just in Washington, just look at the AMA and XTRM - at the end of the day they are the ones who pulled the plug. Don’t blame the promoters, their hearts and souls where in this and now…
