I used to change diesel truck tire with ease and crazy fast ! All from a very simple yet spoon shaped bar , no s shape or special tools! So how come these little 17's are such a cramp in my day when I have to change them !
I took two big screw driver pry bars and smoothed the ends to what I thought would work,, They works but it takes and act of god to break the bead! Do I just buy the damn official moto bars or can they just be difficult??
Does anyone have any tip or tricks?? I have heard that the cheapo bead breakers you can buy aren't worth it ? Has anyone made anything to change a tire?

Theres a few different types around Jason.
Simple bead breakers are just a crescent working on a concentric so it aids the leverage.
That is the bottom half of course,
The top just aids the lever around the rim so you can spin them on and off.
Wide 17's are a 'push on' so no levers just a rubber mallet.
Save your dough and make a bead breaker outta scrap ;)

I was planning on making a bead breaker or something outta some scrap but I don't know what would work best . I will search around for some plans or ideas!! Sounds like a good winter project!

Mines made outta shit from behind the shed.
Took about 20 minutes to make and has been breaking beads for years.

Does all tyres as well.

Let me see! I have hit the moto tires with a piece of hardwood and a hammer ,also my bars but I am tired of it ! Always room for improvment and tools!

Simple shit as you can see and all scrap,
Good leverage but I usually use a big arse G clamp or a tie down to hold it to to the verandah post by the upright section.
Stops it moving and aids the lever effect.

A while ago on a similar thread I think it was Shane who said he uses a spade and stands on it around the bead to break it. I tried that few weeks ago and it worked really well. :)

Maybe I will weld a shovel tip to my tire bead breaker contraption!
