Because I am about to start assembling the engine for the WRF, I thought I might start a thread to help a few others who might be about to do the same thing.
But with the exception of me being friggin 'anal' about bling, I will be making a shiny WRF engine, (For those not concerned with 'street cred', delete the cleaning/polishing bits  )
This weekend will start with the removal of road grime from the outer sides and the removal of all gasket material and jointing paste from within followed by a quick spin with the polish wheel around the crankshaft tunnel.
I did the clutch housing last night and are quite happy with the result with only the usual Brasso to finish. 8)
I usually use wet and dry to begin the process, but as it has been cleaned constantly for the last 2 years so is already fairly smooth so the wire wheel should do the remove the grime and clean the top layer of alloy well.
After the wire wheel process, I will clean the housings again in a parts wash to remove alloy residue and flush the cavities and oil galleries in the case.
Then starting with a piece of cardboard or the edge of a matchbox and Brasso, will smooth the housings on the high points and flat facets to a satin shine, seeing most of it is hidden inside/under the frame.
Wash again and blow out galleries etc and dry housings with compressed air.
Bearing installation is next and will be done next week when the total assembly goes together.
(Short some parts on the order and they wont be available until then from Yamaha.)
While this is all going on,
I am also washing all the gearbox components and making sure all things to go inside are clean and ready to assemble.
The cylinder head will need to also be cleaned and reassembled with some new valve stem oil seals and a couple of followers in the order for the exhaust.
Frame.
I have been so friggin busy with other projects, I have not disassembled the frame beyond the necessities for engine removal.
So that also needs some work this coming week with some cosmetic touch ups to be done with some matching frame colour.
All the alloy needs to be repolished as it has tarnished in the shed over the last 6 months. That takes some time to do with the levers, fork seal retainers, gear and kick starter levers, master cylinder, carby and subframe to do, I was going to polish the swingarm to match the subframe and muffler but are stretching the workload a bit then to have the bike going again for Bright ..
I am thinking of having my radiators anodized black too.
As soon as I can do some pics I will get Neil to post em up ..
