View Full Version : Qld Road Race Champs - Morgan Park, Warwick - 20 & 21 Se
Perhaps a bit late as entries close today. Give Sporties a call if you want in!
Not strictly speaking a Supermotard race as it's entirely tarmac and there is no separate class. Morgan Park is a 2.2km circuit and can be seen here - http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=warwick+qld&ie=UTF8&ll=-28.262432,152.033551&spn=0.011019,0.015514&t=h&z=16
I am assuming, as before that Motards will be running in the same class as the Supermono's (Formula 3) so expect whinging if you stick your foot out in the corners!
My form was submitted today, anyone else in? My bank balance is going to hate me soon. :D
Information can be found at www.motorcyclesportsmen.com.au
Any thoughts on the engine case protector issues as described in the rules?
Edit - The rules state: ENGINE END CASE PROTECTORS MOUNTED USING AT LEAST 2 OF THE ORIGINAL BOLT LOCATIONS, AND TO
PROTRUDE NO MORE THAN 20MM. THIS WILL RELATE TO ALL 4 STROKE MACHINES RULE 15.2.3.4. (MOMS 2008
PG 106).
It doesn't say it has to cover the entire case, so I'm wondering if a piece of 5mm ally flat bar bent across the side cover and secured in 2 places would work?
i am in mate, there is a few tards it should be good. a few single cylinders as well. the apes can have there own race.
i think u will have to make something up Paul. I am going to ask the wackers on friday night wat they are going to do.

Paul it's the shitiest rule out there and it's a pain in the ass down here too!
The problem I think for tards is that the brake and/or gear lever can smash thru the cases, so consider that as well when fabricating something.
PS. I here ya about the bank balance ;)
The 'supermono' (what classes a bike as a supermono anyway?) class just complain because they are slow so if they get their own class they can win something.
It is stupid to need case covers for motards ! They are supposed to use common sense with that rule.
I got an email that said if the cases don't protrude past the frame then you don't need them either.
I'm in anyway.
One of the supermono guys (with the completely custom, built from the ground up Trick mono) even had a go at me for having an advantage on my stock 525. :lol2: Must be that sweet trail riding geometry.
Can you please forward me that email Joe?

Yeah that should be OK, just as long as you have a go at it I think.
Check out http://www.mqld.org.au/enews/enewsAugustone08.html about half way down, has to do with case covers.
EDIT: Steve that is the email I got... above.
Hey Paul I beleive that the stick on case protectors like I have on my DRZ will comply for the rules even tho they dont bolt on, be worth a check at least.
I checked their ebay store http://stores.ebay.com/CFC-Offroad_W0QQ_trksidZp284.m184QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DCR X%26its%3DS%252BI%252BSS%26itu%3DISS%252BUCI%252BS I%26otn%3D3 and they dont seem to list for your bike, but should be fairly esy to knock up with a hammer and dolly.
here is a pic if you are not familiar with them.

Sweet. Having looked at some of the dodgy pics I'm sure I can fab up something like that.
Thanks for the heads up Joe...
It states - What Scrutineers need to see is that you have replaced or protected any oil containing covers that protrude beyond the frame and fixed hardware far enough to come into contact with the track in the event of a crash.
It also states - Some single cylinder bikes may not need anything done to them as nothing protrudes far enough to cause a problem.
I'd say the Aprilias would fall under this category too as they are pretty narrow engines
I'll give something a go anyway just in-case the scrutineer is having a bad day (or I turn up after Jove!)
Brian, I remember seeing the case protectors on your bike, they seem like a great product but unfortunately no Husky ones - I've got some 2mm ally sheet in the scrap bin just looking to be liberated!
I actually reckon these would work better than some of the dodgy ones I have seen that do mount by 2 bolts, specially some of the wafer thin CF ones.
If you use plenty of silicon sticking them on it will act as a bit of a shock absorber as well and as someone else stated, biggest prob will be punching levers thru the cases and these will go a long way to prevent that.
Cheers brian
Would still be good to get a ruling before you turn up on the day and find that they wont accept them tho.

It might be touch and go if you take off the handle bars and foot pegs, which they will consider to be as fragile as rear sets and clip ons.
peter chapman has a really good set on his bike, i keep forgetting to ask about it
Anyone else so excited about racing this weekend that they are finding it difficult to concentrate on anything else? :D
I built some Carbon Fibre Engine cases late Tuesday night (wed Morning) they don't look too flash but as long as they pass scrutineering I'm happy.
Who's going to be at the trackday on Friday?
Yeah it will be good racing by the look of it. I will be there Fri arv, not riding though, just set up.
Hope the forcasts improve a bit for you guys.
Enjoy the days.
Somebody strap a condom to their engine cover and see if passes scrutineering.
Arse! let's hope the isolated showers and thunderstorms are isolated to Stanthorpe not Warwick! Hope John brings plenty of wets!
My forecast says scatter clouds no rain.
I actually like the wet now but I would still prefer dry.
got my cases done and they look nice also have a set of wets to ;)
