I concur slowmoto, it's been known to be a bit of an issue and should be replaced with a metal one. KTM put a bulletin out about it to dealers.

Hey Guys,
It's a bit of a problem with the warranty as I race the bike\ and the shop owner knows, so it would be a bit of bad form to push the issue. It's holding up at the moment and only weeping. I have two prices 1k and 1.2k. I nearly fell over.

so still riding it and will keep putting the feelers out. It may be a good thing as i have heard that if you leave plain water in the cylinders and jackets it can corrode them. I am thinking of keeping the bike so i may as well do the work and check our the head and the water jackets.

Can't you just do it yourself? 1k is a complete rip off. I mean, unless the LC4 is particularly special, its all of undoing the rocker cover, pulling the cam and tensioner out, unbolting the head and block and replacing the base gasket. Should taken more than about 4 hours at a crawl. I would have expected a mech to quote the job at $250-300 max...

Mate, get a workshop manual and rip that fucker apart. Its only nuts and bolts and 1K to do the job is crap.
Honestly, the only thing stopping people doing this shit themselves is time, tools and confidence. Get the first 2 and fake the 3rd.
You'll never look back and the only money a bike shop will get from you from now on will be for Speedy Bling.

Your both Right,
tell me about the cost, it's crazy to say the least.

KTM talk has a thread on the re build which i may have a look at.

Bad form is not honouring the warranty if it's a know issue even if it is a race bike. I wasn't exactly being gentle with my bike when my base blew.
I'd be pushing the issue and ringing KTM Australia.
Those quotes are horseshit, sould be less than $5hunge IMHO.

I got a little briefcase with my LC4 which contained the manual and toolkit and assorted stuff.. It said READY TO RACE on it.

Warranty for sure.

Yeah, my little briefcase didn't say 'ready to blow up over the black spur and leak oil from arsehole to breakfast time', it said the same.

PM me your email addy Agent34, I may have a copy of the bulletin here somewhere, take it to your dealer in one hand with an egg in the other for him to suck on.

Update,

Rang my friend who used to work at the shop and now works at Frazers and he stated that, if i took it to him within in the 12mths and said it was weeping then i probably would be fixed. His first words were " its a race bike ", i did say that it was still registered and i use i for work as well. It 6mths off three years since i bought it new so 7 k kms on it.
I will say that the bike is going like a train at the moment and I think that I will just pay the money and fix the bike and keep riding it as, it's more fun than a barrel of monkeys !
