Well it's starting to look more like a motard now, so i thought it was time for another update on the 650 project.

Here it is with it's new white brothers exhaust and staintune headers - Found out the hard way that these two items are not compattable and some custom work was needed to make them fit (still not sure if it's going to work or not, can anyone recommend a good exhaust bloke in sydney for some custom welding?)

Finally got the back wheel and disc mounted here (thanks to JTR and my mate gaz with the great backyard workshop  )

Nothing like a bit of Bling Bling to pretty up the front wheel either. 4 piston caliper and radial pump coming soon.

This is the problem with the exhaust, the headers are about an inch short, i think i need someone to cut the end of the headers off and weld an extension on? any suggestions?

By the way, i've been reading all the rubbish going on about Blue bikes being more reliable than red ones. . . bollocks, i'll put either of my XR's up against those blue bikes for a few thousand K's without a service and i'll put money on the yammie blowing up first!

Nice work there Tom! Not sure about exhaust fabs up in sidders, but I'd just look at getting a little connection pipe made up to suit ... someone with some smarts and a pipe bending machine should be able to sort it out :)

Not quite sure what you mean about the pipe joint there Tom,
Looks from the pic they are together, if its the length they slip together and the differing diameters not seeing a good joint without clamping, just take the headers into an exhaust shop and get them to swell the end so it fits snug.
You will obviously need to have the muffler too to ensure proper sizing.
Length wise add to the header and weld on.
15mm of good fit is enough given the mounting of the pipe to seal well.

I thought JTR might see you right on a couple of issues you had Tom.
Good value?

I assume you'd be comparing the XR to the TTR not the Competition based WR/YZ and I then don't think it would would outlast it (?) Other wise you'd really have to compare the CRF's to them!! and again the Yamaha's are the Most reliable MX/enduro, possibly with Husky. hard to gauge if accuratly as Yamaha have a lot more numbers than Husky.

Who's got a sexy bum. . .

The Honda is looking great!! A thought for that sexy bum of yours, :P I've got my license plate curved to match the under-guard, and from directly behind you can just make out the actual number. From either side you get 4 of the 5 characters (like what you would expect from a mounted camera :D ). Just a thought... 8)

Headlight looks like a UFO twin halogen jobbie ... looking really flash there Tom, coming a long very nicely indeed :) How did you end up getting the connection pipe sorted out for the zhaust?

Be careful on the plate bending thing though - I got $120 and 3 points recently for having a bent number plate, which coincidently was half covered in exhaust soot :?

Headlight is an Acerbis DHH. Bending the number plate would look tops! i might give it a go. . . still got atleast 3 points left on the licence so i think i can take the gamble!

For the exhaust i ended up moving the whole pipe forward about 15mm and redrilling the mounting holes in the subframe to match, which gave me just enough room to get the pipes to join by about 3mm. . . then put a big arse ring clamp around it to make sure it doesn't come apart.

Although, now i'm thinking about getting a full Akrapovic system for it (we'll see how much money i have left in a few months).

Hey don't knock the scooter. . . ever tried to get a girl to jump on the back of an XR650!!!

Each bike has a purpose.

It's not mine anyway, It belongs to the wife of one of my flatmates. She said he could have the CBR if she could get a scooter. . . fair deal.

Just as long as only chicks ride it, then its cool. Babes on bikes (anything with two wheels) is a good thing. Good on her.
