Looking for a bike for my brother Ian (BEDO) so he / we can start a street motard / street tracker build up.
It doesnt have to be flash but would prefer something almost complete,
at least in the engine side of things to start with.
Anything considered over about 400cc as Ian aint small but is skilled with engines and fabrication.
Older Suzuki DR/SP370/400/500/600
Honda XR/XL500/600
Kawasaki KLR/KLX600/650
Yamaha XT/TT500/550/600 for instance.
It needs to be cheap
All leads followed up,
Yes we have been watching the Trading Post, local papers and EGay
But sometimes you see things in funny places that look like they have been there a while..

Whats is considered cheap? $1000/2000
How about a 94 DR650 with electric start, looks to be a perfect project bike!

Perfect except thats about $1K more than he wanted to part with the start with ;)
Yeah, Yeah,
We know it wont be easy but they are also laying behind / in back sheds too
usually with blown bottom ends ;)
I havea DR400 1980 vintage sitting in my back shed, probably a bit far for ya tho.
I was thinkin about maybe converting it for vintage motorcross, but never got round to it.
Maybe not so god for a tard with its drum brakes and 6V electrics tho.
Cheers brian

Im confused... BEDO = BEDO?
If I may ask a dumb question (hoping not to offend) - Why isnt BEDO asking?

Yeah something like all of the above ;)
He doesn't have a huge budget, is located at the back of buttfuck,
And isn't really sure what we can use in regards to a 'decent' buildup that will pull around his 'no so squeezy' arse.
Looking at it from the rural outlook that he and I share,
There is a few bikes around behind sheds and we have some blokes in remote places on here too so thought it might be worth a shout.
There is also dealers that could possibly remember we are looking for a 'dunger' and could maybe do a deal based on that and a quick phonecall / shoutbox post,
Theres people browsing from other disciplines around 300000 per month that might want to make a quid and the missus happy there isnt another piece of shit in her yard as well..
You know how it goes,
Just asking ;)

If thats the case Brian,
You should be looking for a complete front end from a CBR250R (Import) which also has 36mm fork tubes and the rear wheel with brake caliper and disc for 'your' motard project,
A DR400 would be OK for what we want to do but Redcliffes a bit far like you say mate.
Cheers ;)

Even stuff like this would be OK,
He only rides about 60km a day to work and back and would be doing the odd roundy roundy at TT with us..

Quite a few of these recently posted ones are close to where either of us lives.
We should run a sweep on how many links get posted before BEDO gets a bike.
New thread maybe in the Tipping Section

Another cheap DT200R Ian,
Ideal for your girls and you could use it at TT mate.
I have rims that will fit it too.
Pickup between Frankston and Cranbourne ;)

Keep an eye on this for sure Ian.
Its in a country wreckers yard and you could maybe call them now as it says its also advertised in their shop.
0352 351381
It says it jumps out of gear under load in 2nd and that can be repaired.
It is usually a bearing gone on the end of the selector shaft or the detent pins that fit the shift forks into the drum are worn.
Well worth watching mate as I have some XR600 bits like a long range tank, wheels, exhaust, SDG seat and a few other assorted bits ;)

I've got a mate who clocked up over 200,000km on one of these. He rode the thing absolutely everywhere for 4 years while he was at uni. Used to ride from Sydney to Araluen (400km each way) nearly every weekend..

For sure,
They are super reliable bikes, 6 speed gearbox, and go quite well too.
Make a nice little 'commu-tard' ..

Well I might have found Ian a bike ..
Another IT465/490 :P
This one is a basket case but runs quite well,
Going to look at it / pick it up next week.
Also have stumbled across an original condition XL350KO Motorsport in really good condition.
Time for a vintage street tracker buildup :P
