Hi Guys,

I'm in the process of sorting myself out for Mildura and I'm in need of some help.
Firstly who from Vic is going and how are you getting there?
I will not be able to take the work ute for the weekend so I'm toying with the idea of hiring a van.
I've put in for the friday and the monday off and want to stay in Mildura for the 3 nights and using these 2 days to travel either way.
So I would like to know if anyone wants to car pool and tow a trailer, share accomodation, share the cost of hiring a van and obviously share the cost of fuel for the travel as well.
I did ask a while ago about camping but they did not know whether it would be available.
Anyway of saving some dosh would be great cos the price just to get there is big enough.

Cheers Mark

Yes mate I intend on going and racing the LC4 in the Vets class so will be taking the ute obviously with the ability to tow a trailer as well meaning 6 bikes easily with all the gear, but not from Melbourne, unless there is a change in circumstances prior to the meeting or there was a demand for it.
In that case its a Thursday night meeting in Prahran to load the ute with trailer and bikes to go up on the wee hours of Friday morning.

Accommodation was going to be sorted this week so if we were to be doing a group booking again are we going to go with the cabin type arrangements or on-site vans at a minimum as usual?
How many should I book tentatively?
I know Mildura well and can get something close to the track,
well as close as possible.
There used to be a caravan park very close to the Airport so I will look that one up to start with.

Keen for some more details on the accomodation Muzz

I will be most likely driving up from Adelaide on Friday, so staying fri,sat and sun nights.
Not sure what the other SA boys are doing yet.

Same supp regs for all 3 rounds mate. They're on the MA website. Click me for Supp Regs (http://www.ma.org.au/AM/Template.cfm?Section=2008_Racing_Calendar&Template=/CM/ContentDisplay.cfm&ContentFileID=36310)

And it now looks like I'll be heading up on thurs nite thanx to Stretch :)I need all the practice i can get. haha

Closest to the track in the caravan parks is Mildura Deakin Caravan Park
http://www.murrayriver.com.au/accommodation/milduradeakin/contact.htm
I am waiting for a response at the moment but feel free to contact them direct and mention you are part of a VSMR group travelling in from various locations, and there will be further bookings.
I am looking at camping and taking the tent etc seeing its a few days and also to get there by early am Friday for practice and sign on if available.

As Mark said the supp regs and entries are combined for all rounds just cross the applicable Rd2 Mildura box ;)
Being August a pair of wet tyres might be in order for those who dont have any.

MarkeeMark
30-06-2008, 03:46 PM
That park looks good Muzz and a 6 berth works out to $16.50 per night if we get 6 people, thats $66 for 4 nights! Now who can't afford that?

So far me, Muzz, Greeny and Stretch if you boys are up for it.

Joe
30-06-2008, 05:14 PM
I am in for sure. Going to send my entry soon and by the sounds of it will probably be driving down from up here in QLD.

Jovian, I forgot to tell you on the weekend but sporties said they are doing bike transport down for 200 - 300 or something but then we still have to get there. So really it will probably cost same to trailer down and then we will have tools and stuff.
Gordon said he might drive if he goes.

EDIT: I just saw your post above mark. I guess I will be in for this too, sounds cheap unless we get somehting else ?? I am trying to get Jov to come down as well. You hear that Jov !

Dunno what I'm doing yet. Doc told me 8 to 12 weeks. Mildura will have only been 7 weeks, and I still haven't had a plain old practice day on the Aprillia since getting it. I'm really keen just to be able to run a few laps outside of a race day and try a few things out. After all, it's a long way to go to have a shit weekend.

I'll see how desperate I am for a ride in another few weeks I guess. :lol2:

Do what you said, leave Wednesday and take it easy or do it in one hit and get there early.

There was a google earth snapshot floating around of the Mildura circuit but I cant find it, nor know how to paste it into a thread,
Anyone with some IT knowledge wanna help me out here please
I think I also read somewhere it was to be run anticlockwise which would be good.

Insert Google Snapshot here*

I have no info on the practice day as yet so if anyone has a lead
enlighten us / me please.

Karkarooc Industrial Skills Centre is what the Supp regs say.
Walnut Ave crosses the Sturt Hwy adjacent to the Airport and runs parallel with Deakin Ave (Sturt Hwy) until the bend.

Will seek some clarification on this tomorrow ;)

Looks like the perfect setup to run a figure of 8 death loop centred around the roundabout.

Maybe have a big jump set up so that riders going one way jump over the riders coming through on the flat from the other :lol2:

OK just spoke to Kim at Mildura Deakin Caravan Park.
They have about 10 cabins left for that weekend and about 12 powered sites for those who might want to camp.
They have a fully equipped camp kitchen and lounge area that is able to be used along with a few other facilities.
Linky: http://www.murrayriver.com.au/accommodation/milduradeakin/default.htm
Mention VSMR as previously suggested so they know where you are coming from.
There is another couple of events on that weekend in Mildura so book as early as you can.
They ask a deposit be sent or transferred to secure the reservation as I have just done for the powered site I have booked.
Sometimes its a bonus to be able to whip up a pit tent and do a bit of 'maintenance' between days or change tyres for those on a budget ;)

Theres a huge Supermarket Complex across the road so no driving for much,
Mc Donalds is only a walk away,
Resturants etc are all in the shopping complex,
BP service station about 700 metres up the Calder Hwy,
Or on the corner right next to the CP is I think an Ampol or Caltex by memory.

How many are coming then?
We need spectators at these rounds and need them yesterday.
Maybe carpool and organise just that in another thread specific to spectating and pickup points / meeting point.
Get your missus to drop you off and have a weekend of fun with the fellas,
No stress ;)

So what do you say?

Joe

Ok I've reserved a 5 bed cabin at the above caravan park. Price is as follows:-
$90 per night for 2 people
extra person is $10 per night

So I've got room for 4 others.

If we get 5 of us it's $24.00 per night per person
If we get 4 of us it's $27.50 per night per person
If we get 3 of us it's $33.33 per night per person

I'm happy to share with who ever from where ever but it would make it hell easier if you stayed for all 4 nights if you can.

Dates are:
Thurs 7th Aug,
Friday 8th Aug,
Sat 9th Aug and
Sun 10th Aug

It's a 7hr drive plus breaks for me so if theres no practice day on the Friday I'll cancel the Thursday night booking and drive up Friday instead.

Let me know guys in here or via PM or mobile if you want 0410 308 309

Have you made a decision regards the bike transport Mark?
Brett will be racing no doubt and has a trailer and Commodore to tow it as a thought.
Might be cheaper than van hire, that you still have to put fuel in anyway.

I might have to bring my sons Commodore and a trailer myself yet so I can pickup BEDO and Jedd if they are coming.

*Footnote
I am looking for an odd sized Dunlop wet rear tyre if possible
150/55 - 17 KR244 should someone have one to sell or know of one somewhere please :)

I would just get the Bridgestone fellas to change 'em if I need to Jove.
No spare wheelsets here.
I was hoping to have the 5.00" laced on, but again, the wrong friggin' drilling for the cush hub so need the smaller 150 tyre to fit the 4.25" currently on the bike

Also she did confirm about being self sufficiant with power. There might be power at the venue but it is one they have not used befreo so she cannot be 100% sure.

Practice ? Practice !? That is what qualifying is for
But seriously the last few rounds up here be it road race or supermoto have not had a practice, qual straight up. To save time ?? Don't know.
Actually we didn't even have qual for this last round of the state champs, just gridded up by championship standings.

I am getting my entry off soon and by the sounds of it, it will only be myself and Gordon going down for this one at the moment.

So I take it Saturday, short practice 15mins or so then qualifying then maybe race one. Then other races Sunday.

By McNuggets do you mean knobbies?

If so i am the bearer of bad news.
Section 24.2 of the GCR states no Knobbies.
There are also rim size restrictions depending on the class.

MarkeeMark
23-07-2008, 11:35 PM
I'd call them squeamish!

prid1279
23-07-2008, 11:51 PM
I reckon the rule book would call them knobbies. They don't look much like grooves for tread.

Muzzard
24-07-2008, 10:40 AM
Yeah those Pirellis are fine Allan ;)
CBR250RR / RGV mags would be the cheapest option into the CR's mate :D

devo
24-07-2008, 10:44 AM
How would CBR/RGV mags go on jumps? We don't get the best dirt sections either remember, we're invariably flat landing quite hard.

Muzzard
24-07-2008, 10:52 AM
No problems that I have ever seen.
I've heard all the stories about how they will break, crack, collapse and do everything but remain a wheel after touch down.
Heaps of blokes including those running at the front of the pack used them here for the 2001 / 2002 Championships when wheelsets were still around $2500 bare.
I would use them without a second thought.

devo
24-07-2008, 11:02 AM
Fair play, that's all that I've heard: stories.

Muzzard
25-07-2008, 08:58 PM
I dunno about the overall width of the CBR250RR wheels Allan.
The front you should be able to organise pretty easily with axle spacers and bearing conversion.
The rear might need to be machined to fit the overall width,
Usually the cush drive is made narrower ;)

Good luck all the same and if the racing was in the Eastern side of the State we would be riding through the forest here mate :D

Muzzard
26-07-2008, 05:44 PM
Dunno if you will get too many takers mate.
If you want to post a thread for an adventure ride on motards I think there would be some starters,
Down round the coast of Victoria / South Australia would be the best bet, good motarding on the tar and some great off roading to join up the twisty bits.
Shame Dicky is in HK now cause he would be in like flynn.

You are only taking up valuable space in the trailer with them.
I'm pretty sure they wont let you use them DOT or not unfortunately.

All the same for the amount of rooting around and expense buying Yeehaas wheels,

Looks like the straight is about 220m. I certainly wouldn't go any taller than 14-46 Mark. Take a couple of options though incase you find yourself having to shift just before braking points etc.

We were only just hitting the limiter at MP with 14-46 and that's a 350m straight.

I'll be bringing some of Victoria's finest......Carlton Draught! (Made from Beer)
I've also got a 3x3 metre pit tent which I'll be using and Greeny you're welcome to hop underneath as well.
Looking into hiring a generater locally also. 5 KVA will do for 2 sets of warmers $100 for the weekend, pick up sat return mon morn.

I will also have my 3x3 pit tent there as well.
Might be worth seeing if you can pick the gennie up Friday. depending what time the hire place open on Saturday morning it might make things a bit tight for time.
A 5 kva should be good for about 4 sets of warmers, most use about 1100 each. We have to be at scrutineering at 0730 on Saturday and the final instrutions say the gates open at 7am.
It also says the track can be inpected on foot between 5am and 8am on Saturday.

Well, I'm officially not going. :(

Work commitments, lack of money and other factors relating to moving house, crashing at Finke and not having the time/money/garage space to fix my bike have quashed my plans to go to Mildura.

I thought about going as a spectator, but I'd be crying my eyes out on the sidelines if I had to watch everyone else having all the fun.

Have a great time guys, and good luck to all those competing. Especially Greeny - take it easy, and remember this old line, (which I apparently cannot remember too well myself);

Muzzard
06-08-2008, 06:37 PM
It would be according to what class you entered no doubt and the fact you are a new rider.
C grade is the start grade I think now from the rider development / racing grading stakes.
Martin and Joe are regularly competing MX so would know what the classes as per the grading system are as a cross reference.

MarkeeMark
06-08-2008, 06:48 PM
All sorted, I just spoke to the race secretary. She said as per the supp regs that's the way it is.
I start in C Grade for practice and qualifying then if I don't make the cut I get put into novice.
I'm happy with that, now just gotta make the cut.
There's 20 in C grade atm and 4 in novice, so if there's any more entries add the lot together and the top half from qualifying go into C grade and the bottom half in novice.

Greeny

Got my registration confirmation today, straight into C Grade! Is this normal?

Don't worry thats what my entry form said as well.
If you read the sup regs it states they are only going to run a novice class if there are more than 30 riders in C Grade. Times will determine if you end up in C or Novice.

Well, I'm officially not going. :(

Be also good to have regular motard racing in Victoria again.
Its a big ask to travel 3 rounds of a National Championship thats the only racing on a wage IMO and a State based series is whats needed.
I dont have the budget to go to Mildura, let alone any of the other rounds.

Ok what happened in the last race of the C Grade Novice,
without a start from Mark :?
Good going for his first time out IMO.

Well Done to Joe C with some good placement in the standings,
Along with all the others competing this weekend.
I am at a bit of a loss as to why there would be so many C grade riders knowing that at least 3 of them are actually A Grade in other disciplines closely associated with SM and from the promoting Club as well :?
A trophy is a trophy to some I suppose,
I like to earn mine thanks.
But it was racing for those who managed to drag themselves there,
I didnt so shouldn't comment maybe,

Well what can I say, what a weekend! The best time I’ve had on a bike ever. The track was nuts!

Arriving on Friday arvo we settled in into our cabins and all caught up for a beer together.
Me, Neil, Greeny, Twatty, Vaughan, Stretch, Rocket and Shane with their dad’s as well.
Went out for dinner a few beers and back to the cabin for a semi early night for me. The others returned later with a bit of beer and proceeded to drink in to the wee hours. I was awaken by an unexpected barfing noise in the middle of the night but rolled over and went back to sleep.
Sat morning up bright and early had brekky and off to the track.
Setting up in the pits as the Victorian in a South Australian sandwich with Stretch, Rocket and Shane on one side and Greeny on the other.

First practice was with C Grade as was both qualifying so there were a few fast paced riders on the track. Main thing was not to go down, which later on was gonna happen no matter what and it did more than once!
The dirt, being clay was slick as oil on a dry rode so it made for an interesting practice session for the S2 guys on track first up in the morning.
I felt the track out and yes it was slippery as on the dirt but enough grip to chug around and learn the track.

First quailfying and of course the pressure is on and I’m down on my ass in the dirt.
Getting a better feel for the track though and the grip is coming up more and more. Do ok but thought I’d be quicker.

Second qualifying and I’m on it this time, already been on track for 2 sessions and the dirt has got a blue groove in places and it’s well and truly bed in.
A few different lines to choose and just trying to keep it upright.
I put in a good lap time 4 secs faster than opening practice.
Super happy my times are dropping each session.

Race number 1, starting from 9th on the grid and someone jumps the start or stalls, not sure but we’re red flagged and returned to the grid for a re-start.
I got a blinder of a start first up and backed it up again the on the re-start making up 3 positions coming into turn 1.
Get thru to the dirt and 2 guys go down in front after the table top and then on the next corner the leader goes down!
Woohoo! I think I’m in 3rd but idiot me loses the front and goes down as well.
A bit of monkey see monkey do, I was watching them go down and followed suit!
Shit happens get back up, eventually, and am dead last. The only hope now is that someone else goes down, which they do and I don’t finish last.
Again I’m going faster than before so I’m happy.

Finish the day on a high and head back to the cabin for some well needed R & R.
The weather was cold as and it was hard work riding the dirt section so you really worked up a sweat, then came in and froze your ass off.

Warm up Sunday morning was cold, cold, cold.
We were now warming up in Novice which was the 4th group on track unlike on Saturday when we were qualifying with C Grade who were 8th and last on track.
This was a little harder cos the track hadn’t had as many bikes on it and the fact that Stretch, Rocket and Shane didn’t go out for the S2 warm up(they were 1st on track) made me more than a little nervous.
They had changed the track a little on Sunday to make re-entry onto the bitumen a little safer so it added a few more seconds to the lap times.

Race 2 Sunday morning, got a good start again made up a few spots but lost them again due to a few mistakes but managed to finish 7th.
Keep it upright though and that was my goal.

Race 3 and I’m ready. Starting on the 2nd row from 7th place, happy with my start and running around feeling really good and pace is picking up.
I’m on the gas sooner and harder out of some of the corners and feeing great.
Then the heavens open up and it starts raining.
At first I thought it’s only a shower and it will be fine but it keeps coming and the back end is getting really loose on slicks on the bitumen, forget about the dirt!
I back off so as not to bin it and then the race is red flagged.
First and 2nd have come together and taken each other out.
One guy is not getting up in a hurry and the ambo’s are out for their one and only excursion for the day.
Back to the pits and find out that on count back I’ve finished 4th!
Too happy and what a great way to end the weekends racing for me.

Race 4 is called but the rain has soaked the track and they’ve cut the dirt sections out.
I’m out. It was not worth it for me to put on wets for one race.
Self preservation kicked in and I was done.
Greeny did go out and finished 4th which gave him more points and put him in 6th place for the round and me in 9th.
I think we would have been very close had I run the last race but it was not for me, not this time.

So all in all and awesome weekend and something I want to do more of.

For my 1st time on slicks I’m really thinking wets would have been a lot better for me for the weekend but you live and you learn.
I'm going to stick with them now and persist and get better.

From a spectators point of view it was great. I got to meet Maico949 and s-ex-vee from on here, Josh Macfarlane and Steve, the 2 Aprilia riders and Josh’s mechanic Ben (who happen’s to be the guy who resealed my cases)
I was the only other Aprilia and a lot of people were very interested and asking lots of questions about the bike.

Maico made me laugh harder than anyone. He was competing in the Vets and S1 which were straight after each other.
In race 3 in for both classes he told me he was going to go out and put around in the wet just to get some points. Hahahahaha
I don’t think fighting for a top 5 position is putting around but when he wasn’t in the mix the next time round. I saw him off track and picking up his bike.
After a closer look he looked like he’d been to a beauty salon and had just had a mud bath! LOL
He came in and the front brake lever had come loose so I helped him get it tightened on the dummy grid and he was straight back out for the S1 race.
Unfortunately he binned it again I think and and broke the reservoir off.
Gordon you’re a legend mate!
Joe aka s-ex-vee had a blinder last race in C Grade and came in 3rd with times to be good enough for an S2 place.

Bad luck to Josh Macfarlane in S1 losing the last race to Reekie who won the round cos he won the last race after Josh won races 2 and 3.

Big props to the SA boys Stretch, Rocket and Shane for doing 2 classes and being competitive in C Grade and S2.
Stretch, I hope your knee isn’t as bad as it could be and you heal up soon. Would have been great to see you mixing it up in the Sundays racing.

Greeny, what can I say, you had my number and had me a few times.
Was great battling it out there with ya for most of the day.
Congrats on 6th overall mate.

Nice to meet Slowmoto aka Alan and his boy Simon on the 250 smoker who was always somewhere within earshot everytime we were on track together.
See you at Mac Park in November

A few thanx must go out as well .
nmilne aka Neil you’re a legend for being my pit bitch/photographer/driver.
Albonator316 aka Nick aka The Stig, I could not of gotten there without your trailer.
Supa4 aka Paul D for the tyre warmers (I need my own set now)
OwenS for bringin us a scrubbing brush each to get rid of the mud.
Greeny well for being Greeny and Twatty for the straight talk and knowledge about stuff!

Cheers Markee Mark :D :D :D

Just edited the gallery links to link to the main album in the gallery. I've just finished uploading about 240 pics there, in addition to slow1's.

Great weekend for all I think - big props to Mark and Greeny who both had a great first crack at racing. The times set at the front of novice were pretty competitive, so I think that just goes to show how well they did.

I'll collate results and times in a bit.

What a weekend.
The ups and downs of racing started for me on Friday during the drive from Adelaide to Mildura.
After a bit of lunch at Renmark we noticed the left side fork was weeping fluid. Not a good start to the weekend.
With me driving and Twatty calling dealers in Adelaide and Mildura we find a dealer, Sunset Cycles, who has the par. but no mechanic to fit it. They end up calling their part time mechanic who agrees to come in and do the job on Friday Arvo at 4pm.
Huge thanks to them and the Mechanic.
Saturday was interesting with me never having done even a ride day with a dirt section, though did get the hang of it and the whole dirty tyres and road thing I now think is more of a mental obstacle to overcome cause the slicks still had heaps of grip and the power slides where awesome fun. Times progressively got better and I ended up in Novice starting off 9th on the grid.
First race was a bit crazy but ended up making up a position and was set to start the first race of day two of the second row of the grid in 8th.
With more rain over Saturday night I over heard one of the S2 riders make the comment that the track would be hard on knobbies. Dam it was slippery. Every couple sessions the bob cat was out doing track work. Not sure if this helped or hindered.
They did change the track for Sunday with an additional section of dirt. Twatty did some timing and guesstimated it added about 7 seconds to a lap.
Race 2 for me was crap got a shit start and rode like poo. Lost the back end a heap in the dirt and stalled a couple times, guess I was trying too hard and towards the end the bike was tired so it needed to have a little lay down. This firmly put me into last YAY.
Race three was going a bit better and in the second half of the race the race with a light sprinkle of rain falling I was making ground on Mark. Was just about to start looking for a pass when the yellow flags came out, the red flag was waved a second or two later. Shame it did because I think Mark and I would have had a good scrap for the last couple laps. Good thing was I started to do the same lap times I was on Saturday even with the extra dirt section.
Mother Nature now decided to make things a little more challenging and opened the heavens. It PISSED down and small hail was thrown in for good measure. Well I half packed up because even though I had a wet tyre set up I would not have been able to get them fitted in time as didn't have a second set of rims and the tyre changing guy was fairly busy.
Well it then started to dry up and the sun came out. With the track altered to a bitumen only circuit I grew a set and made the D to get out there and race.
Gear was unpacked and Twatty. Went to town on cutting up my slicks with the groover. Lets say time was a issue so accuracy did go out the window. Not sure if the grooves did anything but they did help the head believe i would grip and i think thats half the battle.
About 25 mins before the last race we got another shower.
Well the final race was great. Sitting in the dummy grid I looked about to see I was the only one still on slicks with most running wets, intermediates, or road tyres. I got an average start and was putting around when I realised I was in forth. Woohoo. Tried to catch up to the third place rider but I had been too much of a pussy at the start and he was out of reach so I crossed the line in 4th.
Good to finish the weekend with the only that i have found so far is a couple scrathes and a broken helmet peak froma crash in the dirt that had me landing on my head.

Huge thanks to Twatty for all his efforts over the weekend and also to Vaughn and Neil. Thanks to Stretch for the groover and also the 4 thousand questions as well as Shane and Rocket for the heaps of advise. Thanks also go to Mark for use of his gennie when mine started to leak oil and Owen for getting me a brush to clean my tyres.

Great weekend and really happy with my 6th place overall for the round.
With myself currently sitting in 11 for the series I would really like to be able to head over to Perth and see if I can get into the top ten for the year.

Well done everyone.

I'm soooo jealous. It looks like it was a ball.

Was scrutineering not very picky? Can I see bikes in the pics with no axle sliders, etc?

Greeny
12-08-2008, 09:38 AM
Scrutineering was easy as.
They cheked to make sure you only had water in the radiator by looking and sticking a finger in. Checked the throttle, brakes clutch and gave the bike a quick look as they walked around it. I only had a red bull can as a catch can and it never got a second look.
They didn't even check if the sump was lock wired.
Axle sliders are not required by the GCR. I have heard some tracks require them. I only run them to protect the bike not the road.

OK fellas... here is my little report.

Gordon and I did the non stop 16hr drive back to his place 7am to 1am this morning... bloody most long boring roads I have ever seen, who the hell would want to drive around the out back
It was cold down there, mainly on Sunday with the wind/rain/small hail.

My first 2 races could have gone better. I go good on the tarmac but this track had 2 slippery dirt sections and the dirt was pretty tight making it very hard for me to get the power of the SXV 550 down. Lost heaps of time in the dirt. It was also very cold and med rear was not getting any heat. So a combination of 2 dirt sections, cold tarmac and the ball tearing power of the SXV 550 made it a bit hard for me to ride in the dirt  But it was only my second time on the SXV in the dirt so I need a bit more practice on it.

The last 2 races were wet so I whacked on the wets. I had not rode in the wet before but they changed it to an all tarmac track so I knew I had a chance of winning with the dirt out of the way. I started on the third row of the grid because of a bad 1st race where I dropped it in the dirt.

I finished OK in the 1st wet race and got up to the second row.
So last wet race, starting on second row. I got a good start into 3rd position which is where I finished. I set the fastest lap for that race but I couldn’t get a clean pass on the rider in front, was still happy with 3rd but think I could have won with a little more time.

Josh and Reekie were doing 40 sec lap times in the wet so I was pretty happy I did a few 42 sec lap times for my first time in the wet. (I still think I would have done 41’s if I had a clean run)

I am 5th in the C grade championship now so I guess I can’t complain for my first 2 rounds riding Supermoto, but the couple of crashes first round didn't help either.

Josh did well on the Aprilia, with 2-1-1-2 but got second for the round because Reekie won the last race.

It was a great weekend though. Me and Gordon got to take the VDB down & back so that was pretty cool having a factory bike in the van. :D
Gordon had a pretty good weekend racing as well.

Good to meet some of you VSMR blokes down there, pitty me and Gordon didn't get out on Sunday night.

Thanks again to Dave Ward for the front pads that actually work.

Also thanks a lot to Gordon, Ben, Steve and Josh for the good weekend, any help and a good feed Friday night.
Also Gold Coast Aprilia & Gimoto Leathers... AND Devo for the cool graphics that are now not so new from the races.

What a top weekend! As always, the trip was made by the people we met, Mark and Neil are bloody top blokes, who did a remarkably good job of putting up with me and Greeny with our abuse, shit-stirring and erotic inuendo, Cheers fellas 8) Joe and Gordon are good guys too, but didn't get much time to talk much with them as I was always off with the video camera or trying to keep Greeny pointed in the right direction. Stretch, Rocket and Shane are always good value and their Dads are real good blokes as well. Vaughn's always great to have around, but can't hold his piss, but I s'pose it's coz he's a bloody pom :P . At least he cleaned up. Always fun to have Owen around too, but where was goodbye's when you left?
I didn't get to really see much of the racing coz I was filming, so I'll be editing the 13GB of footage I got this week into something all can enjoy and sending copies and raw footage to those who want it.

DAMN I WISH I'D BEEN RIDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought I had landed back in Scotland at the weekend.
We left Brisbane on Thursday morning in shorts and t-shirt.
When we arrive in Mildura on Friday afternoon it was fucking freezing and stayed that way all weekend.
We arrived at the track on Saturday morning at about 6.45 a.m. and had an argument with the officials because they weren't going to let us drive into the pits with our gear and expected us to carry it for miles. If you had seen how much shit was in the back of my van you would understand why I was arguing with the officials.
To cut a long story short we finally got to drive into the pits to unload and told the officials that we would drive out again after unloading RIGHT!!!!!

I had a mixed weekend. The first warm up session started badly. I had fitted new brake pads, but they just wouldn't work. Probably frozen.

Fixed the brakes and went out for qualifying but struggled with the bike in the dirt. 90 degree hairpin turns and wet clay just didn't suit the Aprilia. I qualified 10th in both the Vets and S1.

Round 1 - Vets - I got a great start and was 4th into the firtst corner. Finished 6th and was happy with that.
Round 1 - S1 - DNF - Dropped it in the mud.
Round 2 - Vets - Started 6th and got into 4th by the first corner. Dropped it in the mud again and finished 9th.
Round 2 - S1 - Finished 9th
Round 3 & 4 were declared wet races so we raced on bitumen only.
Round 3 - Vets - Started off as a great race with a freight train of 5 riders. I was sitting in 5th when a female lapped rider pushed across in front of the rider in front of me, who in turn pushed across in front of me which caused me to crash and I ended up off the track and in the mud again. I was covered in mud which gave the pit crew a good laugh.
Round 3 - S1 - Started 9th. Was up to 5th by the end of the first lap. Had a rush of blood to the head to try and get 3rd and ended up sliding off the bitumen and into the mud again.
Round 4 - Vets - Finished in 5th. Happy to finished a race and not end up in the mud again.
Round 4 - S1 - Started 9th. Was up to 6th by the end of the first lap and stayed there to the end of the race. I had some good lap times. Felt I could have gone faster as I was being held up. My lap times were quicker than 3rd place finisher. Not bad for an old fart just filling in to get some track time in S1. Happy to finish the race and not end up in the mud again.
Good to catch up with the VMSR guys.
Hope we can do it all again in Perth in November.
Thanks Joe for coming with me and sharing the driving.

no worries mate, still got a fair bit of work to do as I've been busy this week leaning HARD in my Husky dealer for 610's for me and Mr Gump, made even easier by knowing I've got an awesome alternative to new that just involves a bit of driving... Should know one way or another by tomorow.
Just be prepared for some shaky footage as I had to hole the camera over my head to avoid the fence down the bottom end and was that freaking cold on Sunday arvo everything was retracted and shaking!

Twatty - once you're done with basic edits then send me a copy and I can upload onto the site as well as re-cut it with different codecs if you need to compress it more / play with the quality. If you can send me the original 50/60hz interlaced footage I can de-interlace it into 50/60fps progressive video compressed with the xvid mpg4 codec, rather than having it converted into 25/30 fps progressive video that doesn't look nearly as smooth as the original interlaced video....
