As usual for some of the forum members here, through Mc News, they enjoy the fruits of some RDO accurement and go riding the 2 days (Monday/Tuesday, 17/18th) after the GP basing the rides from Bright.
Neil will no doubt complete the rest of the details, Dates and times, Antti and Cal are also regular riders so I can expect something from them too no doubt.
These mountain approach, Tawonga Gap, rides are very good fun and those who have an opportunity to come up at least one of the days the bulk of the riders are there, you are guaranteed a good laugh, some grouse canyon racing, get to do some silly things out of the sight of prying eyes, but not necessarily ya mates, and spell it out for the Desmosedici riding fags ... MOTARDS RULE! :finga:
So of the forum members here, who would be up for a days serious motarding through some nice Alpine scenery and through the snow lined roads of Mt Hotham Approach to Dinner Plain?
As my engine is not likely to be ready in time, And there was some discussion today to doing the engine as a backup for Thailand, ...
Rick Wason has generously offered the use of his brand new WRF450 for me to attend.
He does have in his possession a new 20 odd litre tank for the 450 too that may need to be evaluated for him ... 8)
He did also add he would fit some new tyres to my wheels, Any guess what they may be? :?:
As you are aware Rick supports every endevour we have regarding progressing motard and now mini motard in Victoria, and has been involved since the inception of Supermotard through racing association with JTR.
He is also our contact for our much loved Avon Distanzia's ... ;)

Sounds like Ricks the Man
I will give him a call when I buy my next YZ (if I buy a yamaha) I use the certain Yamaha dealer near me for getting a cheaper price but I will never buy one from them again after the last debarcle..
I Had a person go onto the wrong side of the road infront of me (coming towards me) to turn right (my left) and didn't see me (aparently).
It was dark and wet (last week on the way home from work) I had to use every bit of brake that I had (there was several cars beside me and the car pulled out very suddenly). I didn't think the bike would stop that quick in the dry not to mention the wet!!! These AVONS are fucking fantastic!
I would have however been able to get a new bike if they didn't work so well but, eh I prefer to be able to ride still..
How are yours Neil?

Going well mate ... they coped with my wobbling around the track without braking a sweat ... took me a bit to get used to how they turn into a corner (slowly at first and then really drop in) but I think I'm over that now ;) Had a few little slides from them but all very progressive and easily controllable, even for a hamfisted gumby like myself :D

By the looks of the length of the thread on McNews and the replies to it, There gonna be a few blokes and girls lurking around Bright the 2 days post GP.
There should be a few motards in amongst the mob, So if its in your power to attend either day, I urge you to do so...

hmm...
My boss has told me to take some leave, coz if I don't the accountant will take it off me.
A couple of days in the hills would be good.
I'll pencil this in and try to arrange my other plans (riding the aprilia to Perth and back) around it.
Anyone else going?

Err, Cal, about those bells - I thought we already talked about that and decided that would break too many federal laws.... :P
Yep, I'll be along :D

No Ash,
He's coming on your 450 so it gets a decent gut full of real air and gets to go fast on some windy roads otherwise it may metamorph into a CT110 soon..

Sam will be bringing the XR out for the run, That is if he still has it ...
Currently up for sale and looking for a KTM 525 with both set ups. ;)
Rumour on the McNews thread is Adam Ferguson might be coming up for the rides too so that puts a whole new twist on the days events should it happen...

Bugger,
I'm off to Korea tonight, not exactly sure how long for.
I might be back by next weekend, but it looks doubtful.
So much for taking some time off.

Well as usual I am let down again at the last moment with something that is unforeseen/out of my control,
So no bike for me for the Alpine rides as there would seem to be no insurance cover on the demo bike I was to use, ,
So I am once again missing out as its not enough time to get another organised.
Would have been nice to be told when we first started talking about it cause I could have got a new KTM, but for loyalty to a mate..

I'm back.
Got home at about 10:30 this morning, having last slept in a bed on Sat night.
I am in no fit state to ride a motorcycle.
Certainly a beautil day to come home to, I assume that the weather is just as good innthe hills.
Hope to hear some good 'motard makes sportsbike rider piss his pants and cry like a girl' stories.

All good up the mountains yesterday, and caught up with Neil and Jake in Bright in the morning.
I came up with Sam and he rode the XR while I drove chase in the ute with the mini on the back just in case...
Never rode the mini, but Jake did a wall ride before binnin' it onto the road again after an oldie in a car ran him off the road on the Hotham approach!
Sam had a good days riding and Neil will have to post up his own report as he kept going with them sportbike riders, (I'm watchin' you Neil) to the Blue Duck inn for a steak you have to wrestle, while we stayed with the more motard orientated roads lower down round Bright.
On another note, We did some running repairs to the Jakemobile to see him home,
Thank god for country blokes hey Jake?
My engine parts have landed so look out all you poofs,
Ride faster or get out of the way! ;)

Country folk rock!!! you the man Muzz!!!
The front wheel has lost its bobble and tracks so nice
I took Muzz' advice on right hand turns "just ride it in dont worry about the wolloing and chatter" well fuck me was I taking them as quick as I do lefts
On the way back across Tawonga Gap I had to wait about 2 minutes for Sam where on the way there he was right behind me.
So when will the cow be back in the paddock?
I guess a session at GPTC is on?

Great few days riding ... got home this evening well and truely stuffed :)
Met up with GrahamB from mcnews and jake at my place on monday morning. We worked out we'd miss them at worri so ended up shooting for a buxton rendevous at 11 and decided to get there via xmas hills, chump creek and the black spur. Had a good enough run through each and got to buxton at 11.01am (the designated meeting time) ... and proceeded to wait until about midday for them to turn up :lol2: Just when we thought all was lost up turns antti on the BRP and skids to a halt next to our coffee table
Uneventful ride to bright, although I did trade my DRZ for Cal's blade who traded trev for his cb13 who traded that for my DRZ so he could do the dirt section from whitfield to myrtleford. Aparently he had a blast and was well pleased with the distanzia on the dirt, and also apparently managed to set a decent pace according to antti, and the ride was good, although jake did a quick check of the thorn bushes to ensure that they provided an adequate soft landing in case he needed to use them in anger
Did the run up hotham on tuesday which was nice, and the drz didn't gasp as much up there this time. Stuck with jake and sam for quite a bit of the ride up there which was much fun before taking off a bit in the quicker stuff trying to keep the hp of the blade in check  Ended up with a podium at the top anyway :lol2:
Given that I had an extra day up my slieve ;) I decided to go over the top and on to omeo, then the blue duck. Lets just say the drz had its throttle stop nearly wound off on a few occasions, and that it will touch the limiter in top gear with its tall 15/39 gearing with me hunkered down basically flat on the seat  I think an extra cylinder might be in order :lol2: or maybe that crashed R1 should get on the shopping list sooner rather than later ;)
Anyway, got to the blue duck through a road that would have been right up motard alley - tight, windy and with gravel and crap littered along it in places. Not my cup of tea but certain WR250F mounted individuals would have had a ball  Lunch at the blue duck was absolutely awesome and the hot word is that it would make a good overnight stop on the second day for the next trip
Did the trip back and then the run back down hotham. I was parked behind trev, cal and vicko on the run down. Cal and vicko got waved past by trev and then i got past a couple of corners later. They had a couple of corners gap which I thought I'd close down, but damn me if they didnt stay ahead. They can sure hussle those bikes i'll tell ya
Another night in the pub ensued before a run this morning over the gap and back, then back and along the whitfield/masnfield road again. Antti had got a replacement $40 dirt tyre (knobbly) and didn't half motor down that road. Even though he struggled in the middle of the corner he still got from point a to point b very fcuking fast  Rather than do the main drag back we ended up going via alexandria, then over the black spur. At that point our posse broke up and vicko and myself went over chump creek, then xmas hills where we caught up to an unmarked patrol car which we duely followed behind for a bit before peeling off to our respective homes.
Absolutely great weekend  Anyone who wasn't able to make time, ensure you block out the 3 days (Mon-Wed) after the GP next year for the trip, as it's well worth it
