View Full Version : Southern Downs - Round 3 QLD
June 28 & 29. Morgan Park QLD
I have booked a cabin a while ago. One double bed and 2 x bunks, toilet shower.
I stayed in it the last 2 rounds, $70 or $80 for the Saturday night I think it was.
So if anyone is going to race I have some room because it is only me.
i booked track day today, and mato booked my accomodation
i have to check with MCsportsman as there is some weird rule about engone covers????????????
It's in the 08 Rule Book and you will also find discussions about it on trackday and race forums. I'm sure something can be done cheaply with aly strap and a couple of longer bolts. It's not like ours will ever see use anyway. Very dumb rule / interpretation of said rule.

Did anyone see the case covers on the TM?
I did notice it was running an oil cooler type cover on the ignition side. Is that what you're talking about tambi?

Yep, nice looking bike I thought
I believe the rule is now 'securely fastened' covers instead of 'at least 2 bolts'. So a bit of alloy bent into shape and stuck on with double sided tape would probably do the job.
It still says 2 bolts on the sporties notice though.

V-twinners do you think this skid plate will suffice instead?

Mecasystem skid plate in post #10.
Paul's blingin CF case savers are nice though.
such a crap rule for motards

Considering the case covers don't touch the ground as is, I doubt that skid plate would pass.

its a road race rule not a supermoto rule. lucky you dont have to fit a bellypan to catch the mess when it goes bang. the brake pedal and gear lever can punch thru the alt and clutch cover . seen it many a time.

10% . i dont carry em on the shelf. i make em to order. 2 to 3 days. no need for a group just call me ""and mention VSMR" 0416215134
wat gearing u reckon? i have 14-45 right now but i think it might top out??
was thinking a 42/43
14-45 nearly topped out on the ktm with a 6 speed. I'd say you should get your manual and a calculator out, and get some gearing that'll do about 170km/hr.

16/48 is good for 175kph on my 450 Devo FYI

prob wat we all learned in primary school.
ouch, i was to busy dropping my pencil so i could look up girls skirts
Try Neil's gearing calc - http://www.vsmr.net/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=1
Or google for Gearing Calculator
okay i can get 15/42 and around 174, what u reckon?
dunno how it will take off
15/45 -161
14/42 -161
14/45 - 150
Go 15-42 and take the 14 front with you I reckon.
spoke to one of the wacker kids last night. he did a bottom end on his crf out there running 14/45. thier mechanic said i wouldn't get a 15 on it, said go a 39/40 on the rear
Do a 14/40 and you should be good.
I found 16/47 on the Ape was good when I had the first run on it out there.
Although the internal ratios are most likely different you should be good with 14/40.

Just received the final instructions and it looks like we have got 12,15 and 10 lap races. I was stuffed after 8 laps last time so this is going to be more of an endurance event for me. They have also grouped us in with the NE unlimited, PC unlimited and FE unlimited so it should make for some interesting line selections on the track as a few of them are slower than the motards. See you all Satruday morning

SOUTHERN DOWNS - ROUND 3 REPORT
OK... GREAT weekend !
Good to see everyone out there as well.
I had both bikes out again this time with the plan to do superstock and supermoto. I had a one race break in between my 2 classes so it looked good to do both and it was :D .
Qual on the front row for both bikes and was itching to try out the new launch control on the SXV. It worked good, holeshot for everyrace.
Race 1 Supermoto: One of the best races I have ever had, swapping back and forth for 1st position, me and the other rider were in a few tenths of each other the whole time. Was getting bad chatter and front slides into turn 6 and watched the other bloke nearly go down into that corner then I lost the front into that corner and went down the next lap. Held onto the bike and kept it running so jumped straight back on and managed to keep second place with Adam close behind for the rest of the race.
Race 2 Supermoto: Tyres were tearing pretty bad after the first race and
was a little worried about them lasting for this 15 lapper. They held up OK.
This race another rider, John, on an SXV was racing and I knew he would be the biggest competion.
I did a few laps off the pace at the start and John and Cole gapped me too much to catch up so it was me and Adam in 3rd and 4th. I ended up finishing 3rd for that race.
Race 3 Supermoto: Ready to go for broke this race, was a bit worried about tyres again with the indicators worn off but they made it through.
Led the race for a lap and Cole got passed me and it was myself and him swapping positions for a few laps nearly touching bars going into turn one so we were very close. John got passed us and was leading then Cole got passed me and we were all running laps within tenths of a second of each other, very close racing.
I got into second again and slowy caught John on the last lap. Going around turn 4 our wheels were probably only 30cms away from each other and I tried to go up the inside of turn 5 but didn't pull it off and then Cold got me under brakes into 6.
Finished 3rd with John 1st and Cole 2nd. Was such a good race and took my hands off to clap and give the thumbs up going down the straight and got major headshake   So that would have been exciting for the spectators.
Pulled out 2nd for the round in Supermoto :D :D :D
I really picked up the pace this time with the aprilia going 3 seconds faster consistently than last time and within a tenth or two of Johns PB so was stoked with that.
Also got 2nd again for the round in Superstock so was great weekend.
Great racing and good company with everyone there.
Thanks to Gordon for sharing his pit bay and thanks to Adam for the beers and food last night, also Jov for the good stories on sat night and Jay for the brake fluid. (reservoir fell off the GSXR half way through race one and got air in the brakes, just finihsed the race with the brakes failing when I got to the pits :) )
Also big thanks to Steve for the great looking numberplates and Gold Coast Suzuki & Aprilia for the support.
Thanks as well to the M/C sprotsmen for running it all and all the volunteers.
Should be some good pics up soon.
As Joe said it was an awesome weekend and can't wait for the next one.
Having never raced the track b4 i knew it was gunna be tough to compete with the rest of the tards. Practice i was really slow and struggled to get used to style and lines of the track. Qualified at the back but the red mist took over and and droppped 2 seconds of my lap time and had some good battles.
Day 2 my master cylinder was leaking bad b4 and after warm-up. Thankfully Gordon had a spare one and Col had a reseviour, thanks heaps. The 15 lap race was very tough, each time i came round i was preying for the end. I dropped another second and also beat a couple of guys as well.
In the last race i was determined to drop my lap times even further. I had a decent battle at the back but kept making mistakes letting guys back through. great fun though and it was good having a battle. Got back into the pits and saw the times and was stoked i achieved my goal!!!!
For me it was a perfect weekend. My lap times dropped on the second day by 5 seconds, i beat a few guys and the bike went gr8. It was also really cool to see a crf (piloted by Col) take it to the Ape's!!! Thanks again to Mato, Gordon, Col and sporties for a great weekend.
Such a gr8 track and i reckon i still can drop more time!!!

my foots on the peg!!!
And you dont seem to be going fast,
Not sliding,
Not wheelstanding,
Not hugging the ground,
Not even scraping a peg.
WTF Jove
no idea, looks like i am just turning in, did get some good knee scraps that day though
You are just turing in Jov because I cropped myself and cole out of the pic. Must have been one of the longer races where we came round on you again.
Show us a few of yours battling your arch enemy on the BMW! hahaha
hahaha i didn't get the pics this time joe
