I'll put some more up when I can lift my arms, lol.

No stacks, only an engine casualty which is a shame, the weather held out well enough for us to have a good full day, the company was great, Ian (BEDO) is a legend for all his help/efforts/BBQ and so is Mark for his help in organising it and helping me get to the track and helping me out with a rear tyre. :)

I want a faster bike, lol...

What a day indeed! Thanks to IAN and MARKEE, a day to remember thats for sure.
Weather held out okay, track was basically dry for all but one session.
The day was split into four groups:
slow
med fast
fast
and really fast
Weather held out okay, track was basically dry for all but one session.
Most the guys went into fast group, i went into med fast, first track day and first time on the TRX850. First time around in the group decided that what speed they thought was "med fast" was the speed I go to work at
moved myself up with the rest of the boys in fast group. Started to carve up some gixxers and cbr's was brilliant, they must be kicking themselves cos i know their bikes are quicker, lighter etc but they just can't use em  on the brakes is where most of the time was made up.
Had some fun playing with the boys on their tards, got markee a beauty by going around the outside of him on the tight left hander onto the striaght :P
after what must have been at least 6-7 sessions i was well on the pace and was passed by only about 3-4 other riders :D
No accidents for any of the boys, only damage was i wore down my pegs a lot

Add me to the "thought it was ace" basket! I think we all had a ball.

The pace got progressively faster all day and the last session with the "ultra fast" group combined with the "fast" was great.... some of the race bikes were almost a challange in the corners..... almost.

The straights were a little long... a bit like the sunday drive part of the track. But they gave the sporties a chance to fly past.

My onboard footage seemed to work, so i'll edit that up soon and get it on u-tube.

Thanks Bedo and everyone else. It has to be done again.

Awesome men, I really got to try it sooner than later. :)

I have never ridden a bike on a track, they are always my transport to work and sort of needed. Specially the roadbikes Ive had... too expensive to repair. The DR though probably wont have enough power to get me into too much trouble and if I did throw it down the road it wouldnt be too expensive to fix.

So looking forward to it. Good to hear there was no incedents and everyone arrived back safe.

Cheers.. great pics!

MarkeeMark
15-06-2008, 06:25 PM
I wouldn't say the TRX was anywhere near stock. Redline on the tacho is 8000 but that is where the power just starts to kick in!
Nick is young and fearless as well and I think on the CR will be superfast and a force to be reckoned with on the bigger tracks!

The Husky 510 possibly spun a big end, we will know sooner or later for sure once it's opened up for inspection.

The aim is to get enough interest and motard riders to have Broadford allow us to use the short track, eliminating the long boring straights and then incorporate the dirt. Fingers crossed.

Champions do heaps of days per year so organising a group every 5-6 weeks should not be hard.

Watch this space for the next one.

On another note, I had a great dice with a Trumpy 675 track bike. I'd ride round him on the corners and he'd blast back past on the straights, same again on the next set of corners till he worked out he'd have to get on the gas a lot earlier out of turn one to give himself a big enough lead so I wouldn't catch him again thru the esses.

The track is great but has two nice long straights where the motards hit top speed to early. I don't see the cr being quicker around the track. I should point out that this is no ordinardy TRX. Big borekit out to 900cc, race cams and the list goes on, in short the red line that once started at 7500rpm has now been rasied to 9500rpm. The bikes quick and the brand new michelin powers stuck like glue, except one corner where my rear tyre broke free and left a nice big black strip on the exit of aptly named crash corner :D

....and a ship's anchor to get the 200+ kg lump to slow down.

Don't talk it down Nick. ;) Nice work.

So how quick is the track? Did you anyone peek a look at any speeds or know from their gearing?

SMC690
15-06-2008, 09:55 PM
I hit a max indicated of 160km'h but my speedo reads fairly low (Wheelsize in Vapor still set at stock KTM - 1882mm) so I guess $1.70 along the back straight. I would like to calibrate it with the GPS this week to get the correct wheelsize if I have the chance.
I was toying with the idea of changing up to my stock 17t front sprocket from the 16 tooth for the day, I am glad I didn't...

But I rode like a bit of a girl, I must be getting old, lol.

Yes Devo, you are right, Nick did a top job and put some of the guys on dedicated race squid bikes to shame.

Tell you the truth, i didnt notice the TRX until the last 2 sessions and then i thought holy crap! That thing really moved! 1:09 is pretty impressive considering the race bikes that were there (R1's and GSXR's and others on slicks) with race riders do 1:02 (according the the champions ride days staff).

As far as top speed, I never saw over 150. I need more horses

albonator316
15-06-2008, 10:01 PM
Must admit it was nice passing some bikes all preped with their race fairing and slicks to only be out braked into the corners :D
I was getting around 200km/h, but must admit to not looking to closing at speed at end of straight more looking for my brake marker to see when to brake and how many bikes i could pass under brakes ;) :lol2:

MarkeeMark
15-06-2008, 10:14 PM
According to my gearing calculator I'm supposed to be seeing a top speed of 181kph at 11800rpm, my gearing was 16/48
I was changing into 5th on the start/finish line on the straight and not topping out the revs, so my guess would be 170-175 top speed.
Brendan there's no way you were only doing 150 max, your speedo is wrong or you need new glasses!

Nerb
16-06-2008, 12:59 AM
I think your right Mark, it is up the shit. Just watching my onboard footage and its reving pretty hard in top gear. I even try shifting into 7th.... but it aint there! I know the dyno said my redline in top is 180, so your 170 or so is probably right.

The footage is pretty good! I'll have some posted up tomorrow night i think. Too late for me now.

Awesome day, although I'm still afraid of head shakes! You can see in the last part of the video how far I was getting over the handle bars at the end of the straight to minimise it. I was only doing 145 max (GPS readout and confirmed by speedo vmax), with a 57 min. I got a 155 in an early session but she nearly bucked me off so I never got back to that.

I really enjoy the difference between road bike and tard, they really have such differing riding styles. I will be back at Broady and hope to have both bikes – one for the corner speed and one to be a demon under brakes...

This reminded me how good value TT is at $35, why more people don’t come to that I will never know.

Thanks to BEDO for getting us off our asses as well the BBQ chariot which kept us warm.

.sis files are symbian install files. If you have the Nokia suite installed (came with the phone or download it free from Nokia) you can run them from you PC when you phone is connected.

All I bought was the bluetooth GPS unit, I already had a phone and the software is free.

Was at work yesterday so didn't have a chance to do anything to the bike, don't you just love 12hr shifts on a Sunday?
Anyway, here's where I'm at.
Bike is now totally stripped, getting a 22mm socket tonight to undo the swingarm pivot and the engine will come out (I hope :D ) Thursday morning, the engine will be at the workshop.
I'm thinking the conrod/big end roller bearing has failed, oil level was good and not old. The rollers have flung either into the underside of piston or into the crank and caused the seizure. Was also told the con rod could have seized to the crank and the crank itself could be free. I guess I won't know for sure until it's pulled down and inspected.
I will start up another thread in the workbench area when I have more info and pics.
Later all.

Thanks to everyone for making Broady such an awesome day, it was great to put some faces to the forum names.
Special thanks to Bedo for organising the entries and for making the effort to tow his bbq to the track just to cook us all a snag in bread.
Your a Legend!!!
I hope your Husky is back on the road soon G-man as I have a score to settle after you passed my in the wet on cut slicks. hehehehehehe
Nah mate if you need to have a ride while your bike is out of action the Ape is always there, just yell out.

hey mate i am trying to get this on my phone but when i go to open SIS file on my puter it can't fin program to open it with. Any tips???

Have you got bluetooth on your laptop or desktop PC?
If so, turn it on, turn the BT on on the phone (and make it discoverable), right click the SIS file and choose > Send To then > Bluetooth Device.
This sends the file to the phone.
It will come in as a text message then open it and if you phone is symbian then it will install, install it to your memory card if you can and have a decent size card. If ya phone's not symbian then you're back to your old lap timer.

That's the cheats way of doing it if you CBF installing Nokia PC suite.
