Jeez,
You know if I had a spare quid at the moment I'd chuck it Jakes way,
Looks like about S3 (Lite) size I reckon, and he could get accustomed to a motarded CRF250 maybe? ;)

Like you Shane, I too had the advantage as a young rider of a mentor/coach/trainer...
He was a Scotsman with a very short temper for fools and bad sports, but after suffering a serious injury in his own racing career, decided to give the knowledge he had gained from his 35 years of competition and impart to whoever would listen or showed some form.
I was a pimply 14 year old who weighed about 55 kilos wet, and a passion for bikes.
I used to go to the local motorcycle shop at every opportunity and just shoot the breeze, (I thought anyway, probably shitted them up the wall) and the 3rd year apprentice mechanic let me ride his TM125 in a Hartwell Club Weekend at Granite Park in Seymour. Saturday short circuit and Sunday motocross.
The 3 weeks later I was given a new RM125/S by the Suzuki Importers and the shop I annoyed with my presence regularly. (Bob Byers Motorcycles, Mooroolbark)
The Scotsman was the father of the apprentice mechanic.
He had a very successful racing career in Scramble as it was called then, and I quickly became a regular fixture at race meetings both motocross and short circuit.
This is also where I first met Rick Wason and his father Ray.
Ray is also the type of man to bring the young ones under the wing and nurture the talent...
He still does 30 years later and with Ricks shop in such close proximity to my house, (our back fences join) I still get the advantage of a mentor now!

Jake is a lucky boy! :D
