Just a quick question.
What is the future of having track days for motards in Melbourne?

Not?
Maybe the kinglake road!!

The 'old' Kinglake rd is a blast on a 'tard.
Humevale to Kinglake West.
Bumpy, tight, bumpy and bumpy.
Makes for a fun ride.
The snandrooze rd is grouse going fast downhill.
I ride circuits around there on my days off if it's sunny.
Up Bowden Spur Rd, down snandrooze, up Old Toolangi Rd, down snandrooze, ad infinitum*

If you head out to yarr junction turn right and just follw that for a while you'll end up there. There is a lot of twisty roads on the way as well. some suit the bigger bikes but most don't as I found out when I did a shop ride up there.
The only thing for me is I will need to take a little extra fuel as my 7.7 litres is probably not enough.

Is there ever going to be motard ride days in melbourne, or am I better off getting a road legal bike and playing in the hills?

GPTC on Tuesday nights or run your motard in regular track days around tighter tracks such as broadford and winton ... I think that's about the only go at the moment ...

GPTC is not really in melbourne and it is only open for a couple of hours. It would take me that long to get there!
Have any of the go kart tracks been contacted to see if they want slider clad motards to pay them to use the track when it is not in use? Is it just a matter of insurance, or somthing else?

I was driving over the West Gate 2day and saw a cart track the pits were packed. Must be a big event on tomarrow?
It looked like a superb motard track. Does anyone know the tracks name?

I think they have all been approached but we would have to garantee that the track wouldn't get damaged in any way and that it wouldn't affect the go karters in any way also. On top of that we would need our own insurance and we would need a cash backing for a while to "make it worth their while". I believe it would work but we would have to do it as a rental to start with until the numbers were high enough for the clubs to make some cash. It would have to be a week day only thing too.

This has for years been a contentious issue and say to you blokes now, and not cause I'm building 'em, Get a mini motard cause I am almost into 2 tracks in Melbourne, but only mini's and only max of 12" wheels and 125 4 stroke...
You think these are toys I dare ya to ride one of mine nailed!
Ask Jake, His is quick and undeveloped.
Better still ask the boys from Bendigo about Jakes red EMS!

Theese bikes are unreal- stoppies, wheelies, knee sliding. Laughing at the guy in front of you that just lowsided covering you in sparks :D
Best yet.....

Hello everyone braxton here the owner of the GPTC. Let me run this by you. Motard practice on certain Saturdays. We would do the 15min rotation of motard/Karts/Pocket bikes. Ask around and you can email me what you think. The answer to the question about where else can we ride. Kart places do not want to know you because, very few motards show up and the loose money from you guys (sorry). If you were to get good numbers then you would have a chance. Todd RD (under west gate) have $200k in the bank so a couple of hundred bucks from you guys is'nt worth them opening.

Hi Braxton,
Yes we would certainly support every endevour you have to give motards track time, and further say now in this open forum,
We are not the SRCA.
Many of us have been left somewhat disheartened/disappointed by the demise of the club base and this led me to set up this Supermotard orientated forum and club base.
I was a member of the SRCA, one of the ones who worked tirelessly to bring new direction into the SRCA by means of good admin and solid business proposals to people such as yourself, to offer a more rounded opportunity to showcase Supermotard.
Unfortunately, the club folded and left me and many like me with $25000 plus bikes and in effect, unless you race and travel for that, you aint ridin' ya motard in Victoria.
So I registered mine and ride it daily, and like the enthusiasts in this forum, I am prepared to put my money where my mouth is, and support each track day/track time that we are offered...
I will be in further contact with you regarding this Braxton in the very near future and look forward to the meeting... :)

Good on ya Braxton for supporting our sport.
I'm a member of Oakliegh Kart club and they have a shit load of coin in the bank also, which is why I believe we would need someone to put up a reasonable amount of cash to "rent" a track until the numbers were up enough.

Hi Braxton, and welcome aboard! What you say makes sense, that turnout has been historically low and the events have to be financially viable. I'm not sure what the answer is, but I'm sure we're all prepared to help out promoting such events as much as possible. Certainly anyone who is in need of help in preparing their bikes are more than welcome to ask for some help and I, and I'm sure others, will be more than willing to help out getting them on track.
There is a great scene over in WA and they appear to get good turnouts to motard track days at both wanneroo as well as cockburn kart tracks. Maybe we need to organise some advertising to 'get the word out' as it were. Certainly if we can get some organised time out on a saturday it would be something more attainable by many.
Perhaps maybe plan for a date to run some motard sessions, give us a chance to get the word out through as many channels as possible and see how we go. Should at least be a relatively low risk way of getting a foot in the water? I'm quite happy to pitch in out of my own pocket as well to help pay for some mainstream media advertising, if it will help to raise the profile and sew the seeds for sustainable, ongoing support for out sport!

The old line from the movie comes to mind again, 'If you build it, they will come' :)
We have the numbers from within the regular posters that would see the financial side of the advertising and promotion sorted no worries there.
We also have the numbers to afford Braxton the viability of at least a trial session or 2 to guage turnout post advertising...
The mini scene in Echuca is huge and sees numbers upward of 30 bikes per night now, with 3 dealers from surrounding areas also supporting the concept. Many of the bikes are now 4 stroke pitbike deriveratives as they are fairly cheap on EBay now for the earlier series of design, fitted up with scooter tyres and flat bars.
10 weeks ago it was a 5 bike field of 2 stroke whipper snippers on wheels.
That is just mini's.
In Wangaratta alone there is 2 new motards on the road in 2 weeks,
Sam got the XR600 Beast on the road, so Johns not the only aircooled motard now within VSMR along with a new Berg that has appeared.
Both have expressed desire to attend a track night...
Motard Muster comes to mind too whereby we could have a bit of time around the track and have the muster down in Melbourne or surrounds and make the track time part of a social ride.
So all you blokes wanting track time, here's your opportunity to show just how bad! ;)

Righto Listen up...
This weekend on Sunday, that is the 14th of August,
We have been given the opportunity/invitation to converge enmass on GPTC for the mini motard sessions held through out the day commencing at 10am.
You will not at this stage be given access to the track for your full sized bikes, well not this Sunday anyway, So if any of you have pit bikes, fit em with some $30 scooter tyres and you will be able to ride them...
BUT, if you attend this weekend and we have a good showing,
YOU WILL GET TRACK TIME NEXT WEEK FOR YOUR FULL SIZED MOTARDS! :D
In the immediate instance those with registered bikes will be given preference to the track, pending discussions concerning insurance...
Fees for day have TBC but it wont break your bank, and all welcome so long as it has the necessary tyres, and protection for the rider...
A big Thankyou to Braxton for his foresight into the world of track ownership and of course the opportunity to gather there.
I can only strongly urge all of you with an interest in either discipline, Supermotard or Mini Motard, to attend this weekend and show Braxton that his faith in us as a professional bunch of enthusiasts is warranted as is the time for him to open the circuit for motard use regularly...
Come on show me how bad ya want track days.
Neil, Can ya post it up on McNews mate?

I thought it would almost be self explanatory Sibbo,
If you want to ride a motard on a track in Melbourne EVER,
Turn up this Sunday!
No bikes show up, No track days!
Pretty fucking simple isnt it!
A truck load of bikes is coming from the Bendigo area set up for mini motard.
The same blokes will bring full sized bikes too given the chance.
