I'll be at Wakefield Park in Sydney on Easter Monday, Drop in and say hi if anyone else is going. I'll be on the Triumph not the SXV though, so look for a black Triumph 675.

I'm with Muzz on this one I'll plan to come as well.
It's far enough away that I might actually have my bike back by then.

I can take the DR Dave and also another bike on the ute.
Also have the towbar and a trailer that will take 3 bikes, along with all the riding gear.
Its then carpooling for you blokes if thats what we decide to do,
With the price of fuel its gotta be a better option to us getting there enmasse.

Taking dibs on bike transport now then
5 vacancies ;)

Slowmoto - please have a read of the "South Australians throw down the Motard gauntlet" thread.

Can you find out if a race meeting like that is a possibility at your track?

I think it could be the start of something big - if we can get it off the ground.

Slowmoto - I was thinking about something in about 6 months time, (at least).

This would give everyone enough time to prepare and would also allow for suitable promotion and sponsorship to be obtained.
I've raced jet skis at Mt Gambier in the past and found local businesses quite keen to get on board. We usually had a local motel offer a discount for accommodation in return for naming rights or prize sponsorship.
One of the auto parts shops also helped out with prizes, etc.
Do you have any contacts within the club in the earthmoving industry?
Is there a local motocross club in the Mt? They may be keen to be involved. Most motocross clubs have either their own earthmoving equipment or friends who help out. I bet there's a few local gun motocross riders who'd slap on some road tyres for the chance to have a go at the Vics.

Please, please don't plan a SA v's Vic Supermoto Challenge for the Finke weekend!

I reckon this could become an annual event and could involve other disciplines. I doubt that the roadracers would be too keen to race on the same day for fear of dirt on the track, but sidecars, Fast 50's, Trials, or even Freestyle Motocross could be incorporated and make for great spectator entertainment. I know several guys racing Fast 50's/Mini Moto's at national level. A mini supermoto race would also be a possibility.

If we're talking about having it at Mt Gambier, the weather is going to play a big part, so a date in summer may be more appropriate?

It could end up being a good money earner for your local club and even bring some city dollars in to the town.

Let us know what the committee thinks of the idea.

Slowmoto - we should probably move this over to the appropriate thread, so I've reposted my last post on the SA throws down the motard gauntlet thread.

Industrial short term leases would be an advantageous way to go but also difficult to plan in advance sometimes and therefore hard to promote and gather riders.
Saleyards is also a good idea although the Wangaratta Council never even bothered to reply and after a decent letter asking for the appropriate permit applications to use the facility were requested.
Yet they run a motorkana in there as apart of the Dutton / Alphera Rally :?

Yes it does shit me because on parity we are also riding fully registered bikes, well the bulk of us anyway.
A car will kill / maim more people usually being out of control and careering through a crowd, than a motorcycle in the worse scenario.
Isnt it the safety thing they all seem to concentrate on :?

Those sort of dollars aren't out of the ordinary slowmoto, and looking on this forum to see what sort of dollars people are prepared to pay to race probably isn't indicative of the whole. How many on here actually race anyway?

slowmoto, how many riders do you need to break even or make it worth while for the club?

are you saying is motard practice days with dirt and SM racing is off at mac park.

Maybe another question to the club could be:

How much would the race entry fee have to be per rider for a motard race day, involving a dirt section for about 20 riders?

Not including MA licences. Those without a national licence would need a day licence, (for dirt racing, that's about $50- per event, is that the same for road/motard).

How many MA Officials would we need to supply?

How many flag marshalls and other volunteers are required to make the race happen?

Is there anything else we'd need to arrange?

Slowmoto - thanks for your help. This is starting to sound promising.

I'm keen to get straight in to a race, but if small steps are what's required, count me in.

I think that $150-ish entry for a supermoto race meeting is not unreasonable, (plus licence) and I can't see that it would stop many people from entering.

I just paid $490- to enter Finke. Plus $265- for my MA licence.

If racing in NSW or QLD was our only other option, the extra expense involved in travelling the longer distance and taking more time off work soon costs more than a couple of hundred anyway.

What are our northern friends paying as race entry for Supermoto events? Devo?

Shane - how much are you paying to race overseas?

I guess what I'm saying is that I don't think the entry fees are going to be too much of an issue - if we can make it a good event that will attract more racers. We may even lure one or two down from the north...

The dirt section is important to me. I don't think it's really a Supermoto race if the dirt section isn't something fairly substantial with a few jumps and a berm or two. Luckily, setting up the dirt section is a lot cheaper than laying bitumen.

$100 at Ipswich. $115 at Townsville. I think the Aus Champs rounds were $100 for support, more for championship classes. Our little RR track (Morgan Park) is $200.

Practice is $50 at Ipswich, $140 at MP, and from looking at Avards site, quite expensive in NSW.

Like you said though, travel is the most expensive bit. Followed by tires, brake pads, gearing up, modding your bike etc etc in no particular order. It's nice when the entry fees are cheap, but it's not a deal breaker if it means somewhere to ride or not, IMO.
