I'm finally racing my go kart after 8 years not being involved (as long as the brake problem I have is sorted) Just thought I would tell everyone as I'm pretty happy to be at it again!!
It will be interesting to see how it all goes, I'm racing my old go kart that I qualified 3rd at the Australian champs in 96 but I have a new engine at least. I hope to do some testing on Friday if it all goes to plan I should have some speed but I'm not sure how much yet as I still haven't driven in 8 years. I'm leaving it a bit tight time wise unfortunatly but it was all out of my hands.
Come down and see what is all about, even if you want to do some scoping out for a future motard site!!! (I have sussed it out already)

I will be the only guy racing in leathers!! (it used to be cool in the late 80's early 90's)

Oh and just for info, there is no 4 strokes. They arn't competitive and they don't have a wide enough rev range yet. Not to mention reliability problems. This is not from me this is from the manufacturers!

A few mechanical problems today 1st race back left wheel came loose and I had to slow down to finish. The second there was a handling problem that I forgot to rectify,(bad setup) so I got a 5th. The final race when warming up the tyres before the race my engine moved and the chain came off, DNS DOH!!!
All in all the lap times I was doing were OK but there is probably another "easy" second and then a few "hard" tenths once the problems are sorted and I work out these tyres/engine.
I have so far including this race have only had an hour and a half in the kart after a 9 year break (this includes running it in for 30 mins)
It's all looking good for the future!!

Sounds good Ash, maybe we can come and cheer you on some day.
I took my other toy out for a squirt today.
Horsepower is cool. :D
Cracking open the throttle at 100 in 3rd and lifting the front is fun.
And OH! the NOISE!
No wonder I got pinged by the EPA once, it's fkkn loud

dicky.

I think you need to drink less when putting your karts together ash  Or, failing that, perhaps more :snigger:

And I hear you about the noise thinggy dicky ... those fcukers did me on the rsv a few years ago ... 104db at 3500rpm with another grand before the testing rpm

the current lap record of 39.7 I have already been under by 3 tenths with less pwer and harder tyres, so don't worry when I have a little time on these tyres I'll be there.
I didn't have any testing on a rubbered up track with the new tyre so I had to revert to a setup from 9 years ago, which was a little off.
I didn't get any setup time on Saturday because I had an exhaust mount break. It was probably half way there 9 years ago and I just missed it. bugger!

I guess they are excuses but it's my fault that I missed the problems (fu#k it)
I have now thrown my "old" test data out so I will not revert to it again!
Seriously though it is really disapointing to know I hav the speed and to be let down by bad prep of some sort!!

Ok raced yesterday again!
After no practice in the last month (so no real improvments) I came in forth overall and first "C" grade driver home (I'm still a "P" plate driver for one more race so I started from the back of the grid every race unlike all the other c graders) I was suposed to be off grid 4 for the final but instead I was off grid 10  . I was down 500 - 600 rpm at the end of the straight, the handling I was getting an improvment each time I went out but I really need a good day at the track and a couple of sets of tyres to get it right,(Sponsors hear me!!!)
I am pretty happy with the result as I didn't get home until late and only got 2.5 hours sleep and I felt like I was going to throw up when I was going out for the morning carbie session. (proud now fella's)This is not something I would normally do before a race but I'm the best man!!!
The tyres are now to slow and very worn out so I will get a set (hopefully) and get this fucker on the pace before the next race!
