I read a while ago (in a Pommie bike mag so it must be true...) on an article about SMs that 'Supermoto' is the term that desribes a trailbike fitted with 17" road wheels, big brake etc and 'Supermotard' is the term given to a person who pilots the Supermoto bike. These terms are French derived.
ie
'Supermoto' = the bike
'Supermotard' = the rider

Anyone else heard this? Not trying to start an arguement just trying to get a clarification.

Take care out there.

Yeah mate, it's true. Supermoto is the bike and supermotard is the rider. I think "motard" in french is just that, bike rider.
It's quite common people use the wrong term, not only in english but as I am Swedish, (but live in OZ ) I read a few swedish SM sites and it is always mixed up there as well.
But using "supermotard" about the bike sounds better I reckon!! ;)

Personally, I refer to both as 'tard, in it's most derogatory form.
For everyone else, I think Supermotard sounds better, regardless of the correct European grammer.

Hey Scozz,
Tried that back in the early 80's when I used to ride a Shovel head Sportster. It was fitted with the biggest set of knobbies you ever saw and that was also my farm bike, so it was not uncommon to pull up at the interesections in Wagga where I lived then, and have fresh cow turds fall from the bike with vibration while idling on the cam...
A real life Supermoturd!
Or if you like Supermoo-turd! :wtf:

But Muzz, mate, knowing your disposition to tell a yarn, how can you be sure it was a cow turd? :D

Speaking of frights.. I've a mate up here with a TDM 850 (one of the best bikes ever :D I've owned two in Scotland and one over here) he's involved in the marshalling at the motard meets up here and he's trying to persuade them to start an 850 twin class.

Apparently you only need 4 willing people to start a new class. What do ya reckon? Africa Twin vs Dr Big vs TDM850 it'd be a hoot man :lol:

If they allow that men, I'm starting a motard sidecar class! Powered with Gixxer 1K, R1, Z1K, etc, And all stuffed into an EML Offroad outfit but real low, big rubber and a monkey with a vice like grip! :lol:
Bet you odds on John the Biker will come on board, but he would want to run an alky Folan V-twin... :twisted: And I'd probably let him too!
