Is it a straight bolt up job Neil, or will you still need the adapter plate?

Wobbly
07-06-2005, 11:58 PM
Nope, def an adapter plate jobbie ... might head down to BME in a week or so ... bike is coming off the road at the end of this week to enlarge the hole in the middle of the barrel and do some other nasty stuff :lol2: so will have time to get a plate measured and made up...

How many of these little jiggers do you have then?.. ;)
And how much to have one of my own?.. :P

I've got 2 through the mail ... unfortunately the last 2 from the manufacturer concerned :? ... and even more unfortunately they have no orders or known forecast for further production :( or require a minimum of 200 more units to be bought in a lot to justify a production run

The calipers are cheap to buy, in fact the cost of the shipping of these two were almost as much as the unit price  So one is going on the DRZ of course, and the other would be most useful for test mule purposes in order to evaluate it to see whether if a future opportunity were arise to get some made it would be worth doing so :-k

I am assuming it is a 4 spot and thin enough to fit on a motard.

Does it take some standard pad?

What sort of price is "cheap"?

Talk with you Monday regarding doing a production run of 200 units then Neil... :D

Yep, I slotted it on and it seems to fit no clearance issues, but will do some side-clearance measurements. They are 4 piston, 28/25mm trailing/leading and < 70mm wide to provide adequate clearance. They were originally designed to suit spoked rims.

I'm hoping that given the slightly smaller piston diameter from a superbike caliper and the thinner body that they will work acceptably with a 13mm MX master cylinder as well as better with a 16mm sportbike master cylinder. I have both to try with it.

Not sure about the 16mm, as there's all sort of complex calculations you need to do with leverage ratios, compressability of fluids, hydraulic ratios and stuff that my brain is far, far too primitive for, so I figure the 'suck it and see approach' is the best to go with (shuddup ash! ).

You can all have a gander on Monday of course :D

As long as it allows the rider to pull the best blocking move going into a corner ever.

The rolling stoppie, with the back wheel flailling wildly in the air. Muzz, you looking forward to me getting on the road??

Hang on there Sibbo, Until youve ridden a few rounds of the local motarding areas surrounding Melbourne, you are gonna be behind me for sure so I won't be worried about no flailing wheels buddy...

Sibbo

Muzz if i am behind, you will have to worry about the front wheel flailing about up in the air. I think Danno knows about this from wodonga.

hey, nice looking caliper!

looks similar like the 4pot caliper from the aprilia125

;)

Wobbly
16-06-2005, 07:23 PM
Does indeed ... given that the manufacturer is italian I wouldn't be surprised if they are made for aprilia by the same group...

I know a certain Yellow bike that's going around that is in need of a four piston caliper! :)

Muzzard
16-06-2005, 08:14 PM
That certain 'Yellow bike' is obviously the one in Neils garage that is now black, right? 'Cause I got the other one here for a (special) inspection  ...

Now I just need to work out how to get the offset caliper bracket made up. Called bob martin eng and they want the whole front end for 3 weeks and $200

Are you listening John?

Muzzard
17-06-2005, 02:38 AM
Shit a brick!
I havent got too personal with the front end of the bike since Monday as I have been flat out, but first 'sit on the disc for a look' seems promising from the Yamaha perpsective...
If there is offset on the bracket it will be very minor and could be done easily with flycutting...
Next week I will have more time to look closely and get a better idea. ;)

I used to make them for my DH mt bikes all the time never failed once if you con give me some idea of a design I may be able to get it machined.

Got the bug again and decided to go a bit further with this caliper idea and make a template for the adapter.
Looks fairly good so far and need to now locate a billet 25mm thick or cast one from old Victa pistons on the BBQ again :blob:
Should end up looking like the one supplied with a Moto Master caliper kit when finished.

John's been beavering away on mine as I sit on the sidelines drinking coloured drinks with umbarellas in them :lol2: Template #1 produced and checked, and now being modified slightly to do a final fit, then comes the 7075 8)

Who else Ash?
Of course John, He's set up for this sort of thing you know mate.
You weren't listening again Ash, Or maybe it was discussed at a track day...
John has a nifty new CNC machine he would like to play with was my impression..

It's only just become functional, at the moment it is being used flat out as it has created a bit of a backlog of work because it needed attension to get it working (and tooling up). As yet it is my boss's toy but i have been told it will be handed over, probably when it shits him :)

Wobbly

Bracket is back with john as some alterations need to be made for the final fit (just getting some clearance issues with the caliper sorted out) and then the final unit to get made out of some 7075 :la:

If you still have the steel prototype, I would like to check to see how far out the Yamaha is compared to the DRZ for mounting holes to the fork leg.
Maybe do a little reprogramming, and only a little, to make the same prototype fit Yamaha as well.. [-o<

Once we're all done I'll pass it along - john is just making some adjustments as we speak ;)

Muzzard
19-09-2005, 10:07 PM
Thanks mate,
I will measure the centres between the fork mounts tomorrow and let you know just to see if the same piece will at least be close, bearing in mind the stand-off measurement from the fork leg as such will obviously differ, ;) it may be as simple as filling one or the both fork leg mounts with weld and re-fitting, or that and a bit more/less from the offset.

All done with a convential milling machine :D as the NC is not fully working as yet. We are getting both mills and lathes linked up so the same programing language can be used on them all. It's all point to point at the mo. Once the nc's are up and running, thats when i can start to play. I have spoken to my boss about some sort of deal for machining for mates, they mentioned beer tokens :drinkers: . It obviously depends on how big a job as to how many slabs
