Hiya,
My standard speedo on the wr just decided enough was enough and has gone completely pants. Aledgedly I do 120kmh standing still. :?
Shit. I knew I was fast but thats ridiculous
I'm sure I read a post somewhere here about a similar thing where someone mentioned some digital replacements.
I guess what I'd be after is something you could dial in whether you had a 21" front wheel on or a 17".
Anyone know of such a beastie ?
Cheers.

The ol' speedo into a fan trick eh Scozz?
I have had 4 of them suckers on my WRF now and are also looking for a digital job, or something that looks bling.
They fracture the bottom of the alloy spigot going into the speedo head on the Yamahas and of course by fitting the extra LED into the 2005 models for ignition indicator, that fixed the fracturing problem... friggin dickheads!
Neil was onto a sweet little digital unit that did all but blow you, so no doubt he will have comment regards this too. I dont think he's real keen on another $200 odd Trailtech. I had tried a mini computer from a bicycle but found too many obstacles for an easy fix, like the wire was too short, the pickup was a headache as it wouldn't pass through the caliper adapter I use, and then I had to find somewhere to mount the thing as well...

The trail techs are now comeing as a hard wired kit with back light. The other thing you could try is a husky speedo kit it's very neat and does the job well except for a shitful back light (1 speeding fine cause of this fucker)

The trailtech's are ok I guess, the backlit version ash talks about would be better than the battery powered one I've got for sure. Mine is reading haywire at the moment - 120kph when i'm doing 60, 140 when 80, etc. I've had a whinge to TT and they're airmailing me a replacement cable, which they think is the problem, which is pretty good (esp since I didnt have to send them a receipt, proof of purchase, etc!). Will see how we go :-k

Bummer. As usual there seems to be no easy fix apart from cold hard cash.
although..Neil was onto a sweet little digital unit that did all but blow you, ...maybe I should wait until they bring out the improved version with ALL mod cons - know wot i mean?
I'll have a look see if Trailtech have a website, and just for the hell of it see how much Yambleha will charge me for a replacement fast-o-meter
Thanks for the info.

Forget Yamaha Scozz,
$172.20AU sound good? I think friggin NOT!

If you get a trailtech maybe get it sent over, as I think they're about $75 or something USD, which will probably save you a bit over buying one here for $200. Be warned about waiting for anything from TT though ... the backlit version was about a year or two late in coming despite lots of "it's just around the corner" sort of talk on thumpertalk :yadda:

Thanks for the clues guys. :)
I'll probably go down that route - ordering one from USA - maybe good ol'JR could help
I cannot believe that Yamola would shaft you for $172.20 but then again maybe I should, a motard set up from them is after all $3,200
The good news is that this being sunday and refusing to work I fixed the bloody thing with some Cyclone tie-down and fanny wire :P
It would seem that you were right Mr Muzz. It shafts itself and cannot work because it keep popping out of the old hole you know. A bit of inch long cyclone tie-down drilled in the appropriate places and screwed tight via the existing 'I don't have a clue what they are for' screws and Bob's your Auntie. Stop's the fuckn thing from falling out and not working. Of course I still don't know whether I am doing 80 or 90 but it's closer than it's been in a long while.
Anyhow it's all good as they say.
adios

i have had a sigma 800 (something like that), push bike speedo on two bikes and it has worked a treat, except when one of my dodgy solders broke and the speedo was a bit off, similar to what neil described.
but it was easy to fit up, all you need to do is make the wire longer, bit of solder and heat shrink and job done. Use normal, not the fat bars, and mount the display between the bar clamps on the bar. pice of piss.
they retail for $50 give or take a few.

Jake, the bastard will un-fix itself again soon...
Have a look underneath and see if it is fractured.

What part am I looking for?
Directlty where it it screws in?
I just ordered a Panoram from Scotts in the US. About $140AUD delivered. Cheaper than the same unit advertised for $200AUD in Australia!
See the links to compare:

http://www.scottsperformance.com/indexmain.html
Or even this one (but check shipping rates before you order!)

Some sweet CNC units in there matey...
Got the Panoram Trail Tech just the other day. Fits on pretty easy and works a treat. I just kept the original speedo on until I calibrated it compared to the original (which are always on the optimistic side anyway) then took off the original and cable. The cable for the computer runs along side the front brake line and the front end is cleaned up considerably.
I'm thinking of getting one for my 900 Monster as well!

Post us up a picture please Bing,
We all like the billet and bling bits... :P
Did you get the alloy CNC holder for the bar clamps too?
I didn't get the CNC holder but that may have been a good idea. The thought of vibration killing the unit does worry me. I mounted the computer holder (the computer part can detach in a second if you want) with some foam rubber so I hope that helps.

There was an issue when putting the cable on - I slipped with the stanley knife and sliced the cable in half. Phuck! Luckily it soldered back together and some electrical tape is doing duty until I get some better stuff.

Here's the whole bike so far. (Still waiting on the wheels).

Brake lines came from http://www.edgemx.co.uk/acatalog/Stainless_Brake_Hoses.html
and once again proved to be cheaper than from Australia. About AUD$130 delivered which took about a week.

Is it a back lit trail tec
I've only used it in the day time but I think it's only back lit if you press one of the buttons. I'm still learning how to use all the functions on it yet. I was thinking about a couple of bright white LED's to light it up. I'll get back to you on that one.
I might go out to the garage tonight and have a look (and a beer too)

Bah, all you bloody girls with your clean bikes. Everyone knows the time you spent cleaning could be better spent drinking beer! ;)
Which reminds me, antti was supposed to sell me his bar fridge in exchange for a slab ... must follow up on that
What if you drink beer while you're cleaning?
