What does everyone think of the distanzia's (except the godfather of Motard I already know what you think :) ) Neil any idea yet?
How do they go as far as grip and wear? I'm not to fussed about the wear (with in reason though) Mainly the grip and predictability.

Are you down for the whole weekend? Doyou still want me to get you tickets to Winton for the historics?

I'm betting that they make a great coffee table stand ;)
I'm hoping to find out soon ... but I couldn't see muzz having many problems around the wodonga kart track. Or up and down the spurs for that matter. Or up and down Hotham for that either. :D
Btw muzz, went out for a ride on sat with antti down the spur. Rear tyre looking fairly sorry by the end of the lap. Antti's looked like he'd done a track day
I gave him another ride on the DRZ as well ... I think he's combing the classifieds for XR650R's as we speak :) Gave Cal a shot as well and he's been mumbling as well .... better stock up on those EMS disc kits  ;)

I'm down on Wednesday Ash to collect the KIA. (pronounced kee-yaa! and with a loud voice)
They are sticky Ash, they are race compounded specially for motard and share same formulation as the Azaros AV50. Jump on one of the English forums and see what they have to say regarding Distanzias, 7 out of the top 10 last year rode on Distanzias there... Can't get any better for real motarding..
I have a second set on hand now that I can bring for you Wednesday, cheap at $400 the pair. Supply has previously been an issue but, managed to secure a deal that sees better volumes for stock through the importer.
Rick Wason is the man to thank for that, and he has stock on the rack all the time as he sees the advantage over other tyres he has tried and watched me use. ;)
He is fitting a pair of OEM sized ones to his WRF450 shortly for a dab at road motarding with us. :D
And you went without me
I cant wait for Antti and Cal to 'gets em ones'... Thats when we will need to have Avon on the speed dial.. And we will have to ask M.A to inspect the 'track'....

With the current run on these babies swiftly removing stock from the rack and its re-order time, can any of you indicate whether you will be wanting Distanzias over the next 60 days?
This affords the opportunity to get the right numbers in and avoids an over order situation. They are an import remember and getting stock imported in these sizes has been hard in the past due to the relatively low volume of sale as opposed to other Avon product, seeing FCL loads with only small numbers distributed nationally.
Its coming into winter now and the thoughts should be for rain/heavily cut/grooved tyres for wet conditions.
The forte of the Distanzias are they are compounded like the Azaro Rain, but with more longevity. They offer the best wet weather grip apart from straight 'rains' that I have tried.

As far as Distanzia stock goes, my info is we have the last 2 pairs coming in shortly, 1 set is prepaid for Rhys, the other is still up for grabs but only in the 120/70 & 150/60 -17's... Are you on a bigger rim than 4.25"?

Yes I have the 03 KTM640SM which I belive has the 5" rim and needs the 160. But the QLD importer says he has the rears in stock. Are you able to split the set and sell me the front you have coming? I have a track day up here on the 16th and trying to get it soughted for then!

If I cant get the Avon sorted in time what would be your next choice or is there another front that would work with the Distanzia rear in your opinion?

Muzzard
08-06-2005, 10:05 PM
I sort of lean with Ash in that regard...
If the pair isnt available I would try for another Avon product maybe an intermediate race tyre to get profile and as close as compound combination...
Pirelli MT 60 R are also quite good from what I have seen of the performance offered but having not used them, I cant comment on longevity.
dicky
09-06-2005, 09:52 AM
I get about 2,500 km from MT60's on the road.
Mixed gravel/sealed surface, mild (for a motard) abuse.

I have done almost 500km's on the distanzias and I have to say there good. I tend to like to slide around a bit and on that front they are very easy to predict and consistant, they still provide an abundance of grip. I think the most impressive thing to day is the wet. I rode home in the wet tonight and they were good, real good. better than the other tyres that I have used!
So there you go try them for your next tyre and see what you think.

They are friggin' grouse in the damper conditions eh?
Dont let them lull you into a sense of false security though Ash...
They are still only tyres. Predictability is the key with these tyres and you have done enough circuit racing in so many differing forms that you understand what I mean. They dont need the heat up time that many other tyres seem to require to make them operate, and even as 'cold' tyres they are still fun without being dangerous...
No doubt given the shape of your street you have already figured they slide sooooo nice even when stone cold.

Hey Muzz, Have you heard any E.T.A. on the tyres yet? Apart from a couple of days riding dirt up around Woods Point, I've been off the road for 6 weeks. I'll have to go with something else if they dont show soon. Rick was going to let me know, but I haven't heard anything....

There is still one set of tyres on the rack and these are the very last of the stock of Supermotard sized Distanzias...
New stock will not be available I am told until late September so if any of you need tyres between now and then and were contemplating Distanzias, act now!...
Ashley, Hows your hangin' on the Husky now they have worn a bit?
Danno, Did you ever fit the s'handies I gave you to try?

How long did it take you to get used to the different turn in characteristic? Sounds like they're more a round profile than a V profile. Mine should be going on this weekend I reckon, since my GPR's are just about rooted :D

They dont really feel much different when turning in Neil, the rounded profiling is very rider friendly giving good feel without really altering sensation through the bars as you lean in...

Ashley,
I run usually 36PSI front and rear round town and on long hauls...
Track sometimes sees as low as 26 PSI but never under that.
Optimum for dry track, 30PSI and wet track, Down to 26PSI to give a bigger contact patch and allow the tyre to retain some warmth...
See in the Tasty Album a real man with the TKC80's on the Speed Triple and ridin' in the snow too... ;)
See they do fit bikes with 'motard' wheels/styling, and they work friggin grouse too....
Off to the Moto Park and whip some Supercrossers! :D

I almost had a big one in the wet and I believe that these saved me I stopped so quick and all the while I was waiting for the front to lock. Are they good on the dirt?

Shame you cant get down to one of our track days Wobb,
You could see for yourself just how good the Distanzias are...
I had the rear break away on the weekend, the first time I have managed to hook it up with only the 250 power, but all the same, still predictable when sliding both on power and entering the corners.
These are the best Motard specific tyre you will find mate... :D
