MOrnin' all,

Scozzie from sunny SE QLD here. How are ya?

Anyone done a RGV mag wheel convertion onto a wr450 '04 model?

If you have - any clues or pointers or spacer sizes - please.

Ta.

Welcome scozzie 8)

Muzz has some experience around that, so he'll be able to give you the good oil ... but I would think you would need to expect some fairly serious machining work to cut down the rear hub sufficiently to fit, and likely need to fit a solid adapter in place of the cush.

There were some mag wheels to suit a WR on ebay recently for good money (less than a grand!), which I think you'll find a link to in one of the forum threads (I think flash was talking about this just recently!?)...

Here's the thread... http://www.vsmr.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=221&highlight=

They sold a while ago, but you might be able to contact the seller to find out if he has any info on them that might be applicable

Hey Scozz,
How big a hurry are you in as I will have some brand new alloy rims to sell cheap in about 5 weeks time, these are bare and available any colour and drilling...
Lace them to your WRF hubs is an option.

As Neil says there are the inherent problems with the cush making the hub very wide. Removing and machining to take a sprocket and bearings afterwards can be expensive. Expect to pay in the vicinity of $1200 upwards for mags already done or to purchase your own and then reengineer to suit :?
Pics of my rims are in the Gallery, Non motard album (when the bastard thing will load them)

Hey Muzz,

These rims you are talking about. Do they lace themselves or can a non-mechanic do a safe enough job if they've never done it before?

I'd have to find myself a second set of hubs and lace them up 'cos I want to be able to do the 30 min change-over into original trim so I can continue to scare myself off road as well as on the track if I ever get on one. :?

As it is now I do have this set of RGV mags. Being that they are of the Suzuki marque do you think that they would just fit perfectly onto someones DR? If so maybe I should re-sell them on e-bay to finance doing it the other way.

I know it's not going to happen instantly so I'll be patient for at least 5 weeks.

Roughly how much do you reckon your rims are going to be Muzz? I'll have to budget accordingly. and sell one of the kids next time a camel train comes past.

Jeez wouldn't it be nice to just go out and buy a brand new set of GYT-R motard wheels or some other aftermarket brand. Slip 'em on and off you go. Dream on....

Cheers.

Yes fellas I have rims a plenty, but not for 5 weeks.
Scozz, you would think there would be something ex Suzuki something to fit DRZ wouldn't you, but Neil has been that route.
Rims are $500 Retail including GST the pair, and colour wise, red, black, gold, blue, silver polish, orange, green and purple.
Lacing, yes you can do it, Sam just did his own for the first time and had no problem whatsoever, be confident mate. John Titman Racing will be able to help you should you decide to just get them laced professionally.
Hubs can be expensive for stock ex wreckers, and the advantage can be outweighed by using offroad tyres such as Continental TKC80 TwinDuro. I use them in winter cause I'm country based and love em. The only thing to make adjustment for if you decide to go offroad is the smaller front wheel diameter in ruts and bumps/whoops but feel is the same as an MX bike.
Rook, You got some keen mates? :D
