Here is an edited version of an email I recieved today from Mark Avard regarding the Practice days.
You will note there are limited positions and those wishing to ride the Inagural Practice better PM me straight away.
Members of Team VSMR Supermoto are urged to make the effort to attend as its where you will be racing in November.
Hey Murray,
We are set to go for Calder Raceway Thunderdome Supermoto Practice one side and Stunt riders on the other side.
No licences required.
Until we get them paying for themselves it will have to be $100 per rider.
Once it is established we plan to drop to around $80.00
So the Date is Sunday 5th August, we will be setting up Saturday afternoon if any guys would like to come and give us a hand.
The 1st one will be pretty low key so we can design the course(with some paying around with the corners) andall guys will get heaps of riding.
Spots will be limited as we can only have 30 riders total SM & Stunt. If we get the interest we may go to MA Affiliated days but not at this early stage.
So if you can get the word out that would be good.
We will have an official release this week ;)
Cheers Mark

Count me in!
Motard AND Stunt... What will Sibbo do?
Plenty of room at Calder to set up a nice track, I wonder if you could use a run up and down the banking as a really scary hairpin?

There is a picture with overlay in the Moto Mayhem thread that depicts the SM track and the general layout for inside the Calder Thunderdome.
Throw this low res picture as an overlay and you have the general gist.

Shit! cant do the Sunday, but would love to do the following Saturdays if you are starting a list already Muzz.

*Spot on Chris.
So do I put your name down for the Sunday Practice mate :D
*Geez Murray I was looking forward to being 2 Murrays Racing finally,
I cant say at the moment as to what the prospects will be for continuity
*Good on you Adam,
Duly noted mate ;)
In real terms there has been an identified need for the track access,
TT has been it until now and at a budget.
I told everyone when the Track day regime started that unless we continued to support them and any other Track days that come our way it would be a while before anyone stuck the neck out and organised a regular regime under MA, expense to run under the MA guidelines being a factor which tends to keep a lot of potentials away.
So unless these Track days get supported and supported well they may not continue to the full MA affiliated Track days that we want and need.
Accordingly if there are sufficient enquiry and registration for the Practice days that are already scheduled, that could well also turn into a more frequent turn around too.
It all hangs on the financial viability like any other 'commodity' in this world.
Muzzard
22-07-2007, 11:07 PM
Well dont all rush me will you.
Is it any wonder that there has only been the track at TT on offer in Victoria
Here it is, developed by someone who has half a friggin' idea about how to do it and only 3 riders is all, including myself
What, are you all too scared to go first or something
I am sending the confirmation email tomorrow mid morning, so now is a good time to contact me for inclusion on the list.

Oh fuckit, Muzz, put me down for the 2nd and 3rd Sundays, I cant do the 5th cos I'm away, but I'll try convince the Mrs that racing is a wise thing....
I really dont want to though, I'm doing it under duress cos I'm supposed to be more sensible now
Muzzard
22-07-2007, 11:30 PM
Good on you mate.
The dates for those 2 Sundays will be confirmed as soon as Mark has the press release expected this week.
These are practice days just like TT only bigger, with jumps, a motard specific layout and somewhere to expand the rider base to offset the 'roundy roundy' of a kart layout.
If you want to come and 'test with water' with us at 2 Wheel Moto Mayhem in November you are more than welcome, its being promoted as a seperate event to the NSW Rounds and gives a bit of preparation time as well ;)

Its a practice day for Supermotards Dave.
Your DR is certainly a supermotard and you are not slow ;)
There will be some folks missing out because of the limited number of riders and that could well be the racers from around Melbourne.
Your money is as good as anyones elses,
To me better, cause its hard earned country dollars ;)

23-07-2007, 12:28 PM
Well in that case count me in. :D Will the bikes be scrutineered, need to do anything? Could meet up & come down with you.
How many people have booked? After re-reading this thread (following daves post) it all sounds interesting. So you can do the "practice" but then not be in any "race"? Cause i would surely be killed in a race.
Is there pm's or emails going around that say what the bike needs and what you need to get the MA licence?
Muzzard
23-07-2007, 06:24 PM
*Brendan,
No licence required for the first practice day on the 5th, but after that expect there to be a requirement for MA licences then.
A day licence will be available in that case.
The 3 dates mentioned in this thread are purely practice days.
No racing.
We will be ripping around as fast as you can go of course
*Dave,
I will be going to Melbourne on Friday the 3rd so I am there early for setup on the Saturday.
Unfortunately in this case I cant meet you mate.
Maybe the trip home though, unless I have to go via Mooroolbark/Kilsyth on the way

Muzz I'll be there Sat arvo around 1:30pm, after work.
Would i be needing another catch can other than the factory one I already have? Also will we need to lock wire all relevant nuts, bolts and caps? An exact list for bike prep would be great as I've got to do it all this coming w/e as well as celebrate my b'day.
Muzzard
23-07-2007, 08:00 PM
Waiting confirmation of both rider list and machine requirements such as the full GCR deal, or just the usual track day bottling and wiring if applicable.
I have done most of mine already and its not a real lot to do.
A factory catch bottle should suffice but the details will be posted as they come to hand ;)

Email confirmation this morning for the 6 riders that have put the hand up to be included in the limited numbers.
Mark is hoping for up to 20 riders from the SM ranks and its a first in best dresseed deal so if you are thinking maybe, now is the time to be a definite yes.
Its a relaxed track day at a brand new track layout, no real requirement for conformity to GCR and catch bottling, machine scrutineering etc.
Wanna run your new bike in a safe and relaxed atmosphere with some pace, socialise with some other fools on wheels and generally get the best outta your bike?

You and me both Dave as to how much that joint has changed over the last few years ...
I will bring in a jerry can of fuel anyway Dave so you can slurp outta that to get you/keep you mobile mate no worries.
There is no requirement now as to Saturday and all setup will be done Sunday morning.
I intend to be at Calder Park ready to meet Mark and get to work at 8.00am and those who would/have also offered to assist please try to be as close to that as possible.
The sooner the tracks laid out and things setup, sooner we ride.
It will be a free session arrangement as far as I am aware which means the very best 'test and tune day' because you can enter and exit whenever you want - all day long :D
I am gonna be in Melbourne Saturday (Kilsyth) if anyone wants to make a supper meeting point/time to discuss the following days activities.
Usual contact detail 0411080953 ..

Calder Park is easy to find, google maps are your friend

Dave I too can bring a jerry can along and there's a BP servo across the road.

Spoke to Mark today and confirmed my spot.
It will be a unique day of riding I feel. Helping set up a new track and doing it as part of what will eventually be a track that's used in the national championship is something that I know in the future that I will look back on and smile about.
This I think is what Muzz and a few others on here have been aiming for for along time.
Supermoto here in Vic and around Australia and the world is booming and with the FIM world round in Bulgaria we are riding in a sport that is not only in its infancy but one that looks set to explode into a huge sport just like the X Games did to all the other fringe and different sports out there over 10 yrs ago.
On that note I'm looking fwd to Sunday more and more and will be there bright eyed and bushy tailed at 8am.
Cheers Mark

I have some more correspondence with Mark today,
Several times in fact and thank you fellas for the prompt action.
Helps reinforce to Mark that we from here are dead bloody serious about supporting this in whatever way we can.
I will be bringing down the mower as promised in case we need to do some 'gardening' of the dirt section,
And there is also a new banner to be up on the website too specific to the Victorian Event/Series of 2 WMM to be held there as well as the regular SM practice ;)
Team Riders will be given the tools to go and seek support at all levels in the coming week.
Now,
There has been an amendment to the limitations to the numbers of riders.
Anyone interested can follow the above links.

Muzzard

Understanding that Dave I would logically expect that there would be a postponement of the practice day if the forecast is really unfavourable.
I also understand that for some travelling like you and I this can be a bit of a headache if not done on Friday/early Saturday.
Muzzard

Spoke with Mark this morning regards the pit arrangements and weather in general.
His decision is that the practice days will in fact go ahead whether there is rain or not.
Obviously if its flogging down relentlessly or just a lot of heavy showers and the track 'unrideable' the decision to postpone or abandon the meeting will be made then...
Pit area is on the grass infield area adjacent to where the track will be setup.
Quikshades or tarps will obviously be needed and poles/ropes to secure the tarps/quikshades.
I will bring a blue poly tarp and some poles/ropes/pegs but as a group we will need whatever available because of the forecast.
Anyone with the necessary stuff is urged to bring it.
I'm on slicks at the moment but might be needing to change tyres and believe the Stunting boys have that sorted if need be.
There is also the BP across the road to inflate tyres.
Dave will be right with his Distanzias and Mark too no doubt, but the 150/60 Avon I have will be a stretch onto the 5.00" rear
All good bring it on!

Setup crew @ 8 am, anytime for those who just wanna ride,
I hope theres the bulk of us at the gate at 8, but understand the travel Dave.
Markee and I chatted yesterday regards the weather and what we can bring to offset any rain.
We have a few tarps and the povvo tent between us as well as some thin timber flooring for the pit area so we arent mudbathing...
Bring yourself a dry change of gear Dave if possible and I will throw in my spare thermal riding suit for the trip home if you need it ;)
We will have a good day regardless of the weather
I am confident of that :D
Have a great day tomorrow guys. Hope the weather holds out.

ok ok a tent with walls would be good and maybe chuck in a couch, and esky if ya aint got a generator to run the 240V to power the fridge(and the tyre lovin warmers) to keep the beer chilled also a gas space heater wouldn't go astray.
Maybe chuck in a chain that we can attach to the foz and then the back of my ute so we can see if tha foz will do a 4wd burnout!
