When I bought my Berg a few months back I maxed out my budget which should have included a cheap trailer and riding gear.

This has left me riding to frankston track every weekend with my pit gear in a rucksack with me minus a pair of boots and body armour.

Being a beginner at this game i felt that i was steadily improving but what was always in the back of my mind was always the fact that i had virtually no protection if i went down.

About 2 weeks ago i got myself a pair of boots, that felt great and gave me piece of mind and helped me concentrate on my riding.

On thursday of last week i finally had $200 to spend on some armour. After trying on the whole range i decided the new Fox gear was for me.
Thats until i tried on the latest Dainese suit which just fitted perfect. This stuff is so light and unlike the other models available is very well ventilated. The back protection is so flexable you can bend over without the bottom lifting up off your ass.

"Thats for road riding though" i thought. "what professional MX rider wears that?"and "holly shit, it costs 550 Bucks!"
After 20mins crouching and flexing i decided that i needed to have this gear. I went home and waited until the next day for my wages to be cashed at the bank and went back to the shop and picked the gear up along with a pair of Fly knee guards. (really comfortable, try the whole range before deciding whats best for you)

On the track on Sunday and I was doing my best to pass the kid on the 80! (I'll get him soon) Enjoying myself as usual not taking any risks when just as I passed a Kawasaki on the jump before the long straight I landed with the throttle wide open, when i instantly shut of and started braking i realised that i was headed for a clump of trees. "Shit" as i entered the branches the voice of 20 years of bike riding shouted BAIL, and that i did. This took all of about 1 second.

You know when you are hurt real bad when just after you come off you dont feel any pain for a few seconds?
This was what i was thinking when i was lying amongst the bush. I gave myself the twidle your fingers and toes test and then stood up!

The Kawasaki rider was already over with helmet of shouting dont move! but i was OK! The bike had stopped about 5 foot away after hitting the tree head on but she was OK too! I brushed myself down, kicked the Berg into action and limped back to the pits. It was then i noticed a hole on my jersey, i put my finger through the cloth and felt another hole, a branch had busted through the armour and stopped just short of my flesh. My injuries totalled to a scratch on the arm.
Where the puncture in the armour was was a place just above the elbow, at the bottom of the bicep. This area is not protected by most of the armour i tried on.

$550 well spent!

Good to hear you aren't too badly knocked around Lee..
On the other side of things, I rode an 80cc Kawasaki that I owned there at that track in 1983/84 as it was more suited, so have fun chasing that kid, he'll take some catching!

P.S. I discovered the next day the back brake hose was fractured.

Did Mr Husaberg decide to mount the hydraulic fitting very close to the shock? or was it the previous owner...

The suspention rebounded after the jump and broke the line causing the bike to lunge forward giving me the impression the throttle was stuck on!

Luck of the Irish... not!
